《A Blank Tale》Chapter 5 - Alone

I was at first shocked and confused when I realized that I had his child, but not long after a sweet, bubbly feeling filled my heart as the dying monster in my heart was rejuvenated by a miracle pill. This was my only connection to him, and I decided that I will give all the love that I can afford to our child along with the best future that I can afford. I decided to give life to this child.
I stored the funds provided by young master Ye to me as a farewell gift into the bank as savings for my child's future schooling along with the hospital costs. Although I personally did not managed to enter a university due to my circumstances, I must allow my child to in order for he or she to have a better future, one better than the years of harsh odd jobs I had to do.
I used the savings that I had gained from the past give years as a servant to rent a small apartment. With the decent salary I got from the five years of working as a servant, I knew it was enough for about a decade of rent, but with the costs of the future living expenditures for two beings, it would probably be reduced to about five years.
Then, for the next year, I mostly stayed home to nurture the new life that I held in my belly. I also got to know my friendly neighbors which included a middle aged couple and an old couple. The old couple was friendly and old granny always brought food over to my home while asking about my yet to be born child. I was really grateful on how she patiently advised me with her profound experience in pregnancy and child care. Although I noticed the disdain of the middle aged couple towards unmarried pregnant women, I still sincerely treated them in hopes of befriending them. Eventually, I the middle age woman began to pity me, and started opening up to me. Then, we began to get along, and she even helped me to go purchase baby supplies as it got more difficult for me to walk.

Eventually, the awaited day came without notice. I felt pain in my abdomen, and I went to knock on the middle age couple's door. They immediately sent me to the hospital where I experienced my first tearing pain that was much too painful to describe. I only remembered that I thought of simply giving up due to the pain, but I held on because I knew that our child's life is in my hands. I must live to give birth, and I must live on for the child. Without the father, the child will be pitiful enough, so I cannot let the child not have a mother as well.
My child safely came to this world as a male while I managed to live, albeit learning that I was no longer able to give birth. My first impression of the child was that he was so familiar. Although he had black hair that was similar to young master Ye, what stunned me were his familiar deep blue eyes. I was not sure why I had this familiar feeling, but I was glad, glad that I was granted this treasure. As my recorded name was Xiao Ai, I named him "Xiao Bu Fu", following my surname and a name that meant to never leave anyone behind. I vowed that I will raise him into honest man who will be devoted to his loved one.
Years flew by as I watched the child grow. With the old couple next door babysitting my baby time to time, I was able to go out to work in exchange for savings for my future rent. With my experience as a maid for a prominent family and no longer disgusting face, I was able to score a better job, such as front counter jobs. Although some risk takers offered me "better" jobs due to my voice, I denied them, telling them I've got a baby to feed, which caused them to curse me for being taken. I don't mind though, I'm happy for the misunderstanding because I can fully spend my time on my precious.

As my child grew older, I sent him to the best schools that I could afford, taking into account future schooling costs. My child grew into a handsome male as I noticed how popular he was at school when I went to pick him up. Of course, as he grew older, he grew much more handsome, but I noticed that his looks deviated from young master Ye's. I attributed his looks to be a mix of my looks and young master Ye because I knew he was his child due to his familiar deep blue eyes.
Time flew by and before I knew it, my child is now entering university at the age of 18. Tears dropped as I reminded him to visit often, but I had to let him go for his future. The savings in my bank were finally put to use as I sent him to a prestigious university, hoping he will study well; however, he surprised me two years later by bringing home a beauty named Xian Wu Die. Although surprised, I was actually happy he was able to find his other so fast, especially such a matching one for her eyes were a special green just like my son's special blue.
Five years went by as my son came home less and less. My son had already graduated early and it seemed that he had already worked on his job for some years. Occasionally he sent me money, telling me he was well and that his job was well paying. One day, he came home with Wu Die and told me that they would be moving overseas for their job. He told me that he may not be able to contact me as often, and told me not to worry while leaving a bundle of money which was enough for me to live my life. I was happy, especially when I affirmed my guess that they were getting married, albeit not yet. I told them to not to worry about me while living their lives, and that I will always be waiting here if they ever want to see me.
Then, they left while I waited and waited. Years passed without news, then decades. Have my precious son forgotten about me? My worries clouded my thoughts as I lived, waiting for him to come to me; however, I woke up looking in to the mirror one day as I noticed my scarce white hair and wrinkled face. None of these were due to some skin damage no longer. Now it was due to my age. I realized, I was old.
I noticed how it was more difficult to move and eat, while I occasionally suffered from coughs. My neighbors have long changed as the old ones have passed away, leaving me with no one to converse with. While lying all alone one day on my old bed, the monster in my heart growled in loneliness as I mused, "Is it my fate to be abandoned?".
Then, I felt tired, so I prepared myself and closed my eyes for my long rest. As my mind started going blank, I felt the last warm thing in my life, a drop of tear rolling down my face.
It seemed the future was the only one who understood my tears, and the future took pity on me.
