《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 53

(Oct 14)
“Well Anthony, lets get started already,” Cornelia rushed me to start my training.
If I dropped even a single drop of water from the bowl while I’m running, I will have to eat some of William’s super hot sauce that was mixed with laxatives.
That was the ultimate punishment.
I needed to make to not drop anything, or else…
Cornelia didn’t tell me any specific instructions, but I knew what I basically needed to do.
I injected my magic into the water inside of the bowl and increased the viscosity of the water.
The water thickened, and it didn’t splash as much which allowed me to run without spilling any of it.
However, it was difficult to focus on maintaining the same amount of magic being poured into the water bowl and running at the same time.
“Anthony! Faster!”
Cornelia was calling out to me from the sidelines to run faster, and I had no choice but to pick up the speed.
I ran a little faster but I accidently poured too much magic into the water bowl causing it to go uneven and erupt, splashing water all over me and the ground.
Fuck.
I fucked up.
I looked back at William and Cornelia and although I couldn’t see their faces clearly, I just knew that they were grinning. They wanted to see me take some of William’s spice…
“Well Anthony… you know what happens now, don’t you?”
William pulled out a french fry and dipped it into the bottle of super hot sauce, and then handed me the fry.
“Enjoy.”
I stared at the fry, the hot sauce dripping from down the fry’s side.
Then I noticed that the hot sauce was melting the fry due to it’s heat… and I was suppose to eat this?
As a part-dragon, I have resistance to heat but this was too much.
I plugged my nose and tossed the entire french fry in my mouth, eating it in one bite.
The pain came instantly, the moment my tongue made contact with the hot sauce, an explosive sharp pain flooded my mouth.
An intense heat flowed through my body like electricity, and I could feel the french fry slowly sliding down my throat and into my stomach.
The intense pain and reaction caused my own dragon essence and magic to go wild as well as my stomach growled loudly like a dragon’s growl.

“URGHHH!!!”
I wanted to throw up, but it was too painful to throw up.
This may seem like an over exaggeration, but it was actually this spicy.
Briggs luckily came to my rescue and gave me some cold milk, which I literally inhaled.
“That… was horrible…”
Slowly, my body did start to return to normal, but the smell and pain of the hot sauce lingered on my tongue.
“Well Anthony, how was it? Painful, right? I’m sure you wouldn’t want to experience that again, so let’s make sure not to spill anymore water, alright?”
“Come on… this is too hard… especially with all the pressure on me. Give me some advice, your advice helped me last time... at this rate, I might actually die…”
“Advice…”
Cornelia took the bowl from my hand and refilled it back to the brim with a water bottle.
After that, she raised the bowl for me to see clearly and then… she flipped the bowl upside down, with the bowl’s opening pointing towards the ground.
However, the water stayed stagnant, and it didn’t move at all. The water didn’t fall towards the ground, it was as if the water was frozen in place!
Cornelia turned the bowl back to normal and handed it to me again.
Incredible. It was nothing short of incredible. Her control of her own magic is top notch.
I made sure to focus as much as possible when she was doing her demonstration.
Before she flipped the bowl, she wrapped the entire bowl and water with her own chakra as an outer layer to contain the water like a plastic wrap.
If you wrapped a bowl entirely with plastic wrap, it doesn’t 100% contain the water inside but it will help block the water from completely falling which has a similar effect as wrapping it with magic.
To top that off, she also infused the water itself with her chakra, causing the water itself to increase in density (which is what I tried to do, but less efficiently) and thus making the water stay completely still.
I held the water bowl in my hand and gulped.
What Cornelia did, required a lot of prep time and concentration, yet she did it so casually. I couldn’t do it so easily like she had, but I tried my best.
First, I manipulated my dragon essence into the water bowl and solidified the water, and then from there, I added more magic to wrap around the entire bowl thus containing it inside.

This wasn’t as simple as my last training with Cornelia, where just a simple mindset change would solve my problem, this required skill. It required lots of practise and training.
I don’t know how much time Cornelia spent training, but I can say she’s polished her magic control abilities to it’s peak.
I started running with the bowl in my hand.
The water would still splash a little, but with my magic wrapping, I kept it from spilling out.
I had to divide my mind into focusing on running and on maintaining proper magic control over the bowl, but I didn’t have to focus as much on the bowl because I was wrapping it with my magic so I could concentrate more on running.
I was finding a good balance of running and maintaining proper control of the water bowl.
Things were going well for a while.
That was, until sweat dripped down my neck as I slowly started to get tired. I was getting burned out at a fast pace, my mind was wavering, and a wave of dizziness eroded my vision.
Shit!
My foot hit the ground at a slight angle, which caused my entire body to go out of balance.
I was able to regain my footing, but I wasn’t able to regain control of the water bowl and it was slipped out of my hand, dropping onto the ground.
Fuckkkkk….
Long story short, I ate another french fry dipped in the hot sauce, and it was painful.
Back to running with the water bowl again.
And then I messed up again as well… and again… and again…
5 times. I messed up 5 times in total.
And I had to eat William’s hot sauce 5 times as well.
But as I was doing my running and water bowl training, I noticed something.
‘Strange’ I thought to myself after I messed up for the fifth time. How come I wasn’t getting as tired as I had at first?
I noticed that after each time I messed up and ate hot sauce, the time that I would run and maintain the water bowl got longer.
Does that mean I was getting more skilled and getting more used to magic control?
Well yes, but that’s not the big reason why I was lasting longer.
Normally, if I tried to concentrate and focus on this training for long, mental exhaustion is unavoidable, and I would slowly be unable to train until I rest myself. But for some reason I was getting more active every time I messed up.
The question is, why?
That was when Cornelia pointed something out.
“Um… guys? Am I the only one who seeing this…?”
She was staring at me very intensely for some reason.
Seeing what?
“Anthony… you’re… glowing…”
What?
Indeed it was true though, I was faintly glowing red.
“Whoa! What the fuck?! Why am I glowing?? Why is my skin emitting a red glow???”
What was happening?
Let me explain.
Hot sauce.
That’s right, hot sauce. The damn hot sauce that William gave me to eat as a penalty gave me a boost in power and made me glow like a damn firefly.
“This is unexpected… it seems like the wyvern blood in the hot sauce spice is causing your dragon essence inside of you to boil, and thus produce more magic at a quicker speed.
The spice is extremely hot and intense, and your own dragon essence is responding to that heat with it’s own heat to counteract the spice’s heat resulting in an excess explosion of boosted power.
In short, the spice is so hot that your body is also heating up which makes you stronger but it’s so strong that it causes your entire body to glow and heat up. It’s temporary though, so it’ll eventually wear off and you’ll return to normal.”
William gave me a brief explanation of his theory of what was going on. After I heard his explanation, I thought this was planned and William intentionally gave me hot sauce to make me stronger to train, but then I quickly realized that wasn’t true.
He wouldn’t have mixed laxatives in the hot sauce if he just wanted me to eat it to become stronger, he truly did want me to suffer.
Well.
That was surprising though.
A hot sauce that temporarily gives me a boost in power…
OH SHIT!
Holy…
The laxatives are finally kicking in… I need to use the bathroom… NOW!

WARNING: THIS STORY HAS A SLOW START. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. We all grew up hearing stories about heroes and villains, but what would we do if we were to be part of one? Now a strange creature made of darkness, James has to deal with his new form in a strange new world where superpowers, heroes and villains are commonplace, far away from his home. Watch as he learns how to use his powers, as he meets allies and enemies and how, when facing the paths of heroism and villainy, he chooses a third way somewhere in between. Follow the story of James, a lost Earthling soul, as he becomes Silhouette, the mysterious power in the shadows. Greetings fellow humans. This is my first story on Royal Road and my first long-term project written in English, so I do hope you will have some mercy in your heart when reading. So, as you may have understood, this is a story with super-heroes - which is quite ironic for my first story considering all of the other ones planned are fantasy - and as such will take place in a modern-like setting. Despite dark themes and gory scenes making their way into the story, it is still a super-hero world with the logic that matches, so expect characters to survive nuclear explosions without a scratch and yet to get defeated by a rubber ducky - as well as similar dark humor, thus the comedy part.
