《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 52

(Oct 14)
When it was lunch and my training group took a break, Cornelia came to pick me up for some extra training as she had yesterday.
We both ran to the same track field we were at yesterday, but today I was only slightly slower than Cornelia and arrived a couple seconds after her.
Cornelia seemed satisfied with my improvement compared to yesterday.
When I looked around, I noticed that Briggs was here as well and he was working on some paperwork or something.
“As the king’s son, I have no choice but to take care of some of these paperwork and official matters. However, it’s suffocating being inside all day, so I decided to set up a table and do my work out here and I can also watch your training progress at the same time.”
However, Briggs was not sitting in a chair… he was squatting on the air. He was doing his paperwork on a table, but he was squatting on the air instead of sitting on a chair…
“Um… Briggs?”
“Yea?”
“Why are you…. not sitting on a chair?”
“Oh. Recently I’ve been slacking on my training, so right now I’m air-chairing. By squatting without sitting on a chair, I can train my legs.”
Damn, Briggs is really dedicated to his training…
That sounds cool though, maybe I should consider doing that too sometime.
Cornelia suddenly cleared her throat to get my attention.
“We only have an hour, lets make the most of it.”
I nodded.
At first, I thought we were going to do the same training as yesterday, where she would chase me around and I would run/dodge but Cornelia shook her head and told me we were doing something different today.
“You pretty much got all the basics of magic control, so yesterdays training won’t improve your skills anymore. We’re moving onto a different training today,” Cornelia explained as she handed me a bowl filled to the brim with water.

I was confused so Cornelia gave me instructions.
“This is todays training; you will run laps around the track field but… you are not allowed to spill even a drop of water.”
Seems pretty simple right?
But HELL NAH.
It’s fucking difficult!
Cornelia wanted me to run at the full speed, while holding a bowl of water and not spill anything.
The bowl was already nearly spilling as is with me just standing still, but I had to run at the same time and not have the bowl spill any water.
It was difficult, but even so, I was excited to train, get better and improve my skills.
That was until Cornelia told me the “catch” of this training…
“If you spill any water from the bowl, you will be punished.”
Punished…?
“Yup. Punished. You need motivation for training hard, right? What better motivation is there than PAIN?”
And just as she said that, I noticed William approaching from afar.
“Hey.”
William greeted me and then out of nowhere, he patted my shoulders.
“?”
“You have my condolences.”
“???”
I was so confused.
I felt like I was not being told something… what was going on?
But I wasn’t left confused for long as my confusions and questions were soon answered.
“I said that you will be punished if you drop any water from the bowl, but the question here is what the punishment is. At first, I was thinking of whipping you with a thorny whip but that would make me look like a sadistic freak, so I scratched that idea.
So I went to William. He’s the one who knows the most about you and your powers, I figured he of all people, would be able to come up with something that can work as a punishment… well, penalize is a better term to use…” Cornelia explained to me.
That was when a massive chill ran down my spine.
Dread ran through my entire body…

William himself, came up with a way to punish me…
When I slowly turned my head towards William, I could see him pushing his glasses up his nose and the sunlight flashed in his lens.
At that moment, I knew that I was fucked.
Whatever punishment William came up with, I knew it was going to be bad. He was a friend, but he was pretty merciless if it meant for me to becoming stronger.
“Well Anthony, like Cornelia said, I came up with a way to penalize you.”
As he said that, he pulled out a bottle, with a crimson red liquid inside.
Whatever that red liquid was in that bottle, it was leaking out intense magic and heat.
Dangerous.
That was what my entire soul was screaming out, my dragon blood was boiling, and scales appeared all over my body as a natural reaction.
“W-William?! What the FUCK is that?!?!”
I took a step back.
“It’s… spice… hot sauce…”
“Hot sauce doesn’t have magic spilling out of it!!! Even a fire monster would probably find that unbearably spicy!!!”
William popped open the bottle of the so called, “spice” and a thick heavy burning smell floated through the air.
“It’s made out the wyvern blood that attacked a while back. Wyverns don’t have dragon essence, but they are technically part dragon, so their blood is extremely toxic even though it’s heavily diluted.
I did research on it and it was basically useless. Accidental ingestion can be near fatal so it couldn’t be used in potions, or as a material. Then I thought of you, you are part dragon. By now, your body should be used to the dragon blood, so ingesting small amounts of it should be possible thus leading to this wyvern hot sauce.”
“You want me to drink that?”
“Yes. Well, only as a penalty if you drop any water from your bowl so train hard to not spill anything. I’m not going to lie though, a normal person would die if they drank this, but you’re not a normal person.”
I knew it was going to be painful, I was never much of a spice kind of guy, but I could tolerate a good amount of spiciness.
Fine, this will just motivate me more to make sure and try my hardest to not spill any of the water! I won’t be beat by a mere hot sauce!!!
“Oh. By the way, I forgot to mention but I mixed extremely potent laxatives in with this as well so if you do ingest any of this, you’ll be shitting fire for days.”
“CALM DOWN SATAN?!?!”
What…?
HE MIXED FUCKING LAXATIVES IN A HOT SAUCE MADE OUT OF FUCKING WYVERN BLOOD???
I’ve eaten spicy food before and when I do, I tend to have a painful bathroom experience afterwards…
What the fuck William… this monster… this is worst than any physical pain you could’ve inflicted on me…
Spoiler alert, I did have to consume a couple drops of it and I’m in pain right now.
So far, I haven’t needed to use the toilet yet… but I can already feel the laxatives slowly kicking in.
Speaking of which, William once told me that my dragon blood was supposed to purify any irregular and potentially harmful substances in my body but it—oh so conveniently—doesn’t seem to apply to this according to him.
“Your dragon blood does indeed purify foreign substances, but I combined and perfectly fused the laxatives and spice with the wyvern blood. Since your dragon blood inside of you recognizes the wyvern blood as a fellow recognizable substance due to its similar properties, it actually accepts it instead of rejecting it. Plus, neither laxatives nor hot sauce are considered a harmful substance as it technically doesn’t directly harm you.”
What a CONVENIENT explanation. It’s as if he’s making this shit up as he goes along.
God damn it.
That was how my hell-like training began…

Only time will tell. Author’s Note: Heavily influenced by fantasy goodness far and wide, I hope to make it somewhat original with a sense of familiarity to you. The overall story is pieced together through the perspective of the characters presented, first + third person narrative styles because I enjoy reading novels with similar storytelling. Please feel free to provide any comments and constructive criticisms for me because I love to read what you think so I can continue to improve on my imperfections and make the story better. Cheers!

Just a Game
“A great corruption is spreading. The people cry out for a savior. For a hero. For YOU! Come join the fight, as the chosen of World Tree! Receive the blessings of the gods, battle fierce monsters, and become the hero you were meant to be, in Arcanum Online!” It was the cheesiest commercial Ethan had ever heard, but the gameplay was enough to draw him - and thousands of others - to the fantasy world of Lazuros. It’s the sort of place that can really draw you in - a huge open world, a deep character customization system, and a feature that makes time pass slower inside the game, extending your limited playtime! It was a little strange, though. As if it was a bit too realistic for a game of swords and sorcery. The NPC’s seemed almost alive, most quests didn’t reset and monsters respawned slowly. Still, for all it’s quirks, it was a good game! Just a game. And nothing more. …right?
