《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 30

(Aug 22 continued…)
As I was falling towards the wyvern’s open mouth, I panicked.
If I didn’t do anything then I would fall directly into its mouth and be eaten alive.
Even if I was used to fighting and was constantly put in life and death situation, in the face of certain death anyone, no matter how skilled, would feel fear.
In my fear and panic, I hurriedly and haphazardly created a bunch of fireballs which I tossed at the wyvern’s face which did no damage from what I could see.
The fire just exploded in its face but not even a small burn remained on its scales.
My mental instability caused my powers to weaken which caused me to stumble and become even more afraid.
Time was ticking as I continued to fall towards the wyvern in slow motion, my mind was overheating itself as I activated ‘Dragon’s Mind’ trying to come up with ways to save myself.
Dragon’s mind, it’s an ability I use a lot that slows the world and environment around me down, of course time isn’t actually slowed down but my mind speeds up and makes it seem like everything around me is slow.
This works by injecting my brain with dragon essence and heighten my thoughts.
This doesn’t make me physically faster, but it allows me to think faster and my brain processes information at more than 10 times speed. This skill automatically activates when I am put in extreme danger and near-death situations.
I’ve used it a couple times before and I just decided to name it Dragon’s Mind as I’m writing in my journal because the name fits.
Time flowed in slow motion as I slowly fell closer and closer to the wyvern, my heart pounded like drums and I held my breath without even noticing.
Ba-bump.
Ba-bump.
Ba-bump.
My exact thoughts then were; Ah sh*t, screw this crap.
And then I dove straight down right into the wyvern’s mouth down its throat as time sped up again.
Although this may seem a bit strange to say, I felt so much fear… that my fear climaxed and then I just felt calm. In a way, I overcame the fear…? I’m still confused but basically, I was so afraid for so long and I became… bored of afraid and simply stopped being afraid…

I know that this isn’t how being scared works, you don’t just get bored of being scared but that’s what it felt like. My mind cleared up and my heart slowed again, as I felt as if I entered ‘the zone’.
At that moment, fear and death just felt trivial, unimportant. It felt like I was done with being scared.
It felt like post nut clarity, but it was with fear instead of… ahem, the usual.
Maybe it’s because of my dragon blood that made me like this since it has been changing my personality bit by bit.
So anyways, the world sped back up as I felt calm in the face of danger and dove headfirst into the wyvern’s mouth directly through its throat.
The answer came to me immediately, I was eaten alive but what if I was eaten whole and intact? I would enter its body while still being alive.
Then I could attack the wyvern from its insides, that is if I didn’t die to its acid in the digestive system first.
I had to be calm and focus and do as much damage to its organs as possible before I get fully digested and melt.
And since I was calm, I felt my powers boost again and surge because dragon’s power get stronger the more stable their mind is.
The wyvern slightly choked and coughed as I had suddenly slipped into its throat whole.
I reinforced my entire body to make it sturdier and increase duration in hopes of lasting longer against the acids.
A ball of fire appeared in my palm, and I continued to fuel it with more and more dragon essence to condense it.
It was hot, sticky and just uncomfortable all round inside of the wyvern, being inside of anything’s stomach does not feel good.
The ball of hyper condensed fire continued to grow and became even denser, like a miniature sun.
My mind was focused, I blocked out all other thoughts and focused as the fireball grew brighter, bigger, and hotter.
A sizzle entered my ear and I peeked down and saw bits of my skin corroding away.

I had to be quick and finish my fireball it spit me out.
Bigger.
Hotter.
More intense.
Soon, the fireball came to a stage where I couldn’t contain the flames anymore and the heat surged.
It popped like a balloon and all the heat exploded out.
Vrshhhh…
KA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
Bits of flesh and blood flew everywhere, I even saw roasted wyvern meat fly around.
Since I was literally in front of the explosion, I also took damage from my own attack but that was to be expected and I had prepared by boosting my defenses, but the wyvern took max damage as it’s insides were literally blown to bits.
Imagine eating a bomb and having it explode inside of you, but somehow living through that and imagine the pain of your stomach burning inside of you as you throw up bits of your own organs.
That’s what the wyvern was experiencing.
I felt my body being sucked towards the wyverns mouth as a flood of blood and gore was barfed out of the it’s stomach along with me.
The wyvern tried to scream but it only let out a pathetic little screech as it wailed around and flapped its wings in pain.
It stumbled around and released all of it’s magic in its body which pressed down on me, bringing me to my knees.
I was not scared, but I was physically unable to move due to the magic pressure restricting me.
It was just wildly releasing its magic randomly and it would soon die at this rate, but not after causing tremendous damage and potentially killing me in the process as it was rampaging around.
I swore and shouted cuss words angrily which I had never done before, I was never this mad before.
And just when I thought it was all over, hope flashed inside of me as 3 bolts of lightning flew across the air and struck the wyvern.
Finally. They made it. Took long enough.
The A ranks have arrived.
I was attacked first due to me leaving the arena to get a drink beforehand where the dragon appeared and also the dragon was targeting me so I figured it would take a while before the A ranks appear to help but it took this long?
They must have been really drained, huh?
Well anyways, I’m just going to relax here on the ground bleeding out nearly to death as I watch this spectacle of a bunch of A ranks teaming together to fight a wyvern.
My vision was fuzzy but my mind was as clear as could be, this was a new feeling for me like as if I just realize the truth of the universe of something.
Explosions and magic spells rang off in the distance, a couple of people rushed to my side to help me, but I told them to stop. I wanted to see this to the end, to see the wyvern’s death myself.
I was acting stubborn, I could die to blood lost but I’m not leaving, I need to see this.
They were reluctant but they let me lay there as they healed me and poured a red liquid over my wounds.
Surprisingly, Briggs and William were in the battle as well. They had just finished their match a bit earlier and they are already ready to fight again? So the time they took to get here was to get their strength back.
The battle quickly ended, the wyvern was already half dead and it ended when William summoned a massive ice hammer smashing the dragon skull with it and when Briggs smashed the ground in half along with the dragon with his curse infused greatsword.
It was over, finally.
Today, August 22, was the longest and most eventful day I’ve ever had.

Lost Things
"In this disordered continent, where everyone seeks to be the heroes of their own tales, there are still some rooms for smaller stories to breathe." "Past, present, and future—keep your eyes open, and see where they lead you to." This story follows three housemates’ lives: Carson Calding, Virgil Barion, and John Salore—onto their adventures of finding Carson’s past, Virgil’s present, and John’s future. Despite their clashing backgrounds and circumstances that forced them together, they’re definitely going to find the things they had lost, for sure. Each entire chapter will be updated biweekly. There'll be three smaller parts per each chapter. Note that this story was written to be an interactive one, with polls at the end of each parts deciding on what happens next. Though, the polls for this story won't be available on Royal Road updates. (I also upload this in Arcane Odyssey forum, and it's currently the only place where I open the polls and use the poll results from.)
