《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 29

(Aug 22 continued)
“DRAGGGONNNNN!!!!”
The moment I heard that I felt my blood run cold, my muscles all tensed up, my magic and dragon essence within me boiled.
I was slightly trembling.
Was I scared? Nervous? Excited? Angry? Vengeful?
Even now looking back at it, I’m not too sure what I was feeling but I think it’s a mixture of it all.
However, just then a massive explosion boom sounded off and a surge of magic washed over the city…
That was also the deciding factor: MAGIC.
Magic washed over the city, not dragon essence. Dragons contain dragon essence, and only dragon essence which was fundamentally different from magic (Dragon essence is made up of the three energies).
Therefore, I was able to conclude that whatever it was, it was NOT a dragon.
If it was dragon essence, the entire city would probably be destroyed due to the sheer strength of it, but it isn’t.
I felt relieved and at the same time a part of me also felt disappointed, I hate myself for wishing it were a dragon… but the dragon side of my blood was raging.
People were screaming and chaos ensued.
I looked upwards and saw the shadow of a massive flying creature… black tough scales… long large wings… it looked identical to a dragon.
However it was smaller, and I didn’t feel dragon essence or dragon blood coming from it.
Wyvern.
I had studied a bit on it.
Wyverns are inferior dragons, at the top of the A rank but weaker than dragons. The strongest A ranked species though not S rank, yet rarer than even dragons.
Wyverns are basically dragons but as I stated before they don’t have dragon blood thus not having dragon essence. Wyverns originated from dragons, but the original wyvern was born with a disfunction making it unable to inherit the dragon blood.
It then multiplied and created a new species now known as wyverns, which is basically a dragon without dragon blood or essence.
I ran towards it, even for me at full strength I would stand no chance against a real Wyvern much when I was already tired and drained from my battle against Briggs.
Now was the worst possible time for a wyvern to appear, everyone was tired from the William Vs Briggs fight.
The two top fighters, William and Briggs, were both exhausted and unconscious so that was a heavy hit to the city’s combat force.
All the other A rankers were tired from maintaining a magic barrier during the Briggs vs William fight and most of the A ranks were injured by Briggs while trying to subdue him.

This was THE WORST possible time for the wyvern to appear, this was bad. Real bad.
I looked around the chaos where people were running and screaming, I needed to find a way to replenish my magic and inner energy to help fight the wyvern.
The wyvern roared out from above me and a minor shockwave shook throughout the air, its mere pressure was enough to cause my legs to slightly tremble from the trauma of the dragon I once faced before.
I saw an alchemy potion store and I smashed down its door and rushed inside.
Since it was a potion store, there were a ton of potions and I quickly rushed over grabbing a glass potion with a blue semi-transparent with a label saying; “deluded magic restoration potion.”
I had no idea what it meant or if it was a high quality or low-quality potion since I never bought potions before as I had fast magic regeneration, but I popped it open and chugged down the potion.
The potion was sweet and I felt a small portion of my magic reserves come back, it was nowhere near enough to help me though so I grabbed more bottles and opened them all.
It was an emergency; people have already fled and I’m sure the owner of this store is already long gone so I didn’t feel guilty about stealing them.
As I was in the middle of drinking the potions, a massive clump of magic was shot in my direction.
I realized it a little too late and the entire store was blown up with me along with it, I wasn’t too severely injured due to my high defense but it really surprised me and my magic wasn’t full yet.
The wyvern was looking at me from the sky and it was shooting magic imbued roars in my direction.
Why… why was it focusing on me? In fact, how’d it even see me from inside the store?
There were a ton of people around, there was no reason for it to specifically chase and target me.
I didn’t have time to worry about it though and with around 2/3s of my magic now restored due to potions, I created a fire ball in both my hands and reinforced my body.
I wasn’t going to try to defeat the wyvern, but I was going to stall it long enough for the others to get here. I also don’t know why but it was aiming specifically for me, and I’ll use that to my advantage to keep danger away from civilians.

It dove down from the sky, and I could hear air itself being sliced from the wyvern.
I condensed my fire balls and exploded them downwards while using the force of the explosion to shoot me upwards and kicked off the ground straight into the sky toward the wyvern.
The wyvern was fast, even if I ran or dodged it would get me but since it was bigger then me, if I were to get close to it, the wyvern would have a hard time landing a hit on me.
Sort of like how a fly or a mosquito is hard to catch when it’s flying near you.
The wyvern opened its mouth as it dived towards me trying to eat me up, but I wasn’t going to be eaten so easily.
I created a mini bomb in my hand and tossed it inside of the wyvern’s mouth, and at the same time created a mini explosion to my side so I changed direction at the last second making the wyvern fly pass me, missing me by a small margin.
My bomb that was tossed into the wyverns mouth exploded causing the wyvern to be temporarily stunned and the wyvern crashed into the ground.
I was sweating and was using 101% of my focus and I knew if I messed up even for a moment, I was dead.
I quickly landed nearby the wyvern and ran towards it, I needed to get onto the wyvern before it regained its balance.
If I was on the wyvern’s back, it would have a hard time hitting me, the limbs and joints of a wyvern aren’t very flexible and so I would be lot safer than if I was running away.
I jumped onto the wyverns back, reinforced my nails with dragon essences and stabbed my fingers into the back scales of the wyvern to latch onto it.
The wyvern’s scales were so thick it didn’t even notice I was on it and when it raised it’s head again, it looked around for me but didn’t find me.
After a bit, it did finally realize I was on it and tried shaking its body to get me to fall off.
I clung to the scales and tightened my grip so I wouldn’t fall off. It let out a glass shattering screech, it was so deafening I was tempted and almost released my hand and put it over my ears.
The wyvern was infusing it’s roars with magic so it amplified it’s volume and damage.
The sound echoed inside of my ear and I could feel my head go a little dizzy and my body numb but I held tight.
Damn wyvern! Using a nasty screech like that!
During my rage, I used even more of my dragon essence and tightened my grip even harder on the scales.
I suddenly felt my hands transform and scales grew on my arms as my fingers morphed into dragon claws.
At that moment I instinctively knew that my hands had fully transformed into dragon claws with crimson red scales and dragon claws that shined and reflected light like steel.
Using my newly transformed dragon claws, I clenched it and used to much force smashing the scale I was grabbing onto into many tiny pieces as if I were smashing glass.
It was cool that I was stronger now and I had dragon claws… but… I had smashed the scale I was holding onto, so I fell off of the wyverns back…
The wyvern was still shaking its body trying to get me off and since now my grip was gone due to me breaking the scale, I was sent flying and crashed into a stone wall causing dust around me to rise and bits of rocks crumbled.
The wyvern saw that I was off its back now and on its two hind legs, it ran towards me but since it an airborne creature and not efficient with land, it didn’t run very fast.
But even so it was approaching me at a fast pace. I was slightly stunned from the impact and I was still slightly drunk on the feeling of my dragon claws but I knew my life and many others were at risk so I used every ounce of strength I could muster.
I placed the palm of my dragon claws on the ground and pushed off of the ground using my dragon arms and flew into the air. Since I had only obtained my dragon arms, I didn’t realize just how strong it was, so I used too much force and flew into the air unable to control my balance.
I fell back towards the ground and when I looked down, I realized I was falling into the wyverns gaping mouth…

But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams.
