《A Curious World》Chapter 8: Librarian's Tome

Now that I’ve gotten well rested, I can finally use try the middle grade meditation manual I received. Even nobles in the academy only manage to have lower grade manuals, as middle grade manuals are often guarded very closely. There are still some that are more widespread as people try to teach it, but many are limited to the family that own it.
Our family may be a Duke House, but as the King has to have reign over us, he has control over the manual for our family, as with the Nangong family. Having control over the manual for a family basically means that a family’s future is in their control. Even if we were to rise up and overthrow the King, he would have enough time to destroy our family’s manual, making sure that even if we were to reign over the kingdom for a period of time, eventually our descendents would have no future.
Mental strength is the determining factor for how strong a mage is, and for most Jobs, their higher ranked skills depend on it as well. As such, the future of a Noble family often depends on the manual they possess. It is tradition for the manual to only be imparted at the coming of age ceremony when one reaches the age of 18.
This manual I’m holding now would be immensely valuable if it were a physical copy, and not a scroll. It could allow any family to instantly rise in power. Since a technique can’t be taught verbally though, this is only useful for rogue mages usually.
However, I need to gain strength quickly, if my speculations are right, my peaceful life will be ending soon.
The title of the manual is “Librarian’s Tome”, it’s obviously not one designed for combat but for support. I didn’t have much expectations since the shopkeeper was willing to use it to gain a slight advantage in his business, so I’m not disappointed. Not disappointed at all, I didn’t want to gain a martial arts legacy or discover an old pill master to teach me his art and lead me down the road to greatness. Definitely didn’t think of that.

I hold the manual, flipping through the page, as each page is engraved into my mind as I flip it. By the end of it, I have the manual memorised, the special effect of this technique is to have improved concentration. Normally, middle grade cultivation techniques have special effects, which is why they’re so much more sought after than low grade ones, some grant the ability to shoot small fireballs, some allow the user to harden a part of their body. To have an ability that functions like N**tropics claim to do… is pretty sad.
I execute the technique several times, with it improving my mental strength slightly with each set I do. I start to feel exhausted by the 20th set, so I’ll take that as the limit for this body for now. Mana is used up each time it’s executed afterall.
I go on to do a set of workouts, trying to improve the body’s fitness.
After I’m done, I take a shower and head over to find my mother. She’s one of the two who know that I’ve ‘lost my memory’ currently, I’ll need to ask her about my situation in school.

Talius
The two moons of Talius gleam with a hypnotic glow; Araius with the color of a cooling blue, and Kranos beaming in a gentle orange. Arairus obscures Kranos with his enormous celestial body, letting Kranos peek out only halfway. This means that it's the month of Gantelos, the season of cold that hovers over Talius for half a year. It also notifies the residence of this planet that the dreadful Fuune will rise from the deep snow, deep from beneath the crust every night and feast on the humans who inhabit this tundra-infested world.
