《Stardust Universe》Side Story 2.4 - Shiro - Reflectors

I don’t really want to say it to him but for real though…Zero Yohna is a piece of work. He doesn’t really need to get all vulgar to me. I even asked him politely. Jeez, can’t he take a break or something? It’s like he has some sort of issue with me. I haven’t done anything to piss him off in the past as far as I can remember. We haven’t even talked since the start of the semester. Until today that is…He seems to have some knowledge about the monster from the mirror. What he calls them again? Reflectors? He said that these Reflectors only come whenever someone is starting some sort of battle royal.
Here I am all alone under a gazebo, figuring out a way out of this mess that my classmate has made. Will they even believe what I will say? The three boys involved will definitely say something else. They are pretty much opponents now. They might just lie to themselves and point fingers to someone else just to eliminate their opponents at their blind spot…
Wait…blind spot? I think I made a big mistake when I said that the room with the seven people in it have mirrors on its wall. It wasn’t that room! I mistook it for the meeting room we had on the other room! Tara’s attack was at the meeting room! She wasn’t at a different room at all. Darn it, I can’t believe I forgot about the meeting room’s location. I also found out a reason to how she was locked inside the meeting room.
After realizing that, I decided to go back to where Tara was attacked last night. I also made sure to make a pit stop to the first scene, checking up whether there was a mirror in that room or not. In fact, I did make a mistake. The room where Hunter was attacked never had a single mirror at all. That means, the people inside the room at the time are still suspects.
But in any case, I should take a break from that scene and go and take a look at Tara’s case. I went inside the meeting room and closed the door. Surprisingly, it wasn’t locked like last night. Maybe the guards had unlocked it this morning. With that in mind, I continued my search over the crime scene and found out that my guess was correct. It’s almost like my memory had altered…or…something…

Now wait just a minute…Something doesn’t add up. Why did I make that kind of mistake? I’m not the type to be mistaking the same keys or pants. I can basically tell the difference. I can even recall what Blanc wore during Sam’s campaign. Alright this is definitely the work of another wizard…and there’s only one person I know who can change a memory so insignificant…
But before I was even able to say it to myself, I heard a clicking noise. I tried to look for it and found out that it was the sound of the door being locked. I tried to open the door but the handle doesn’t seem to budge at all. It was then I realized that the door doesn’t even have a keyhole.
“There’s no keyhole?! How can I get locked in?!” I punched the door in disappointment as I said that.
I looked at my watch and it is already noon. 12:06 PM, to be more precise. A minute later, the same clicking noise can be heard. The door was unlocked! I finally got out of the meeting room. I wondered what the meaning behind all of this is but before I was even able to do anything else the door was locked once again. At least this time I’m already outside of the room.
I tried looking around the door and found out that the door had a special locking mechanism. It uses a timed system. I tried looking over the meeting room schedule and saw a notice saying that doors will automatically be locked during lunch hour and curfew. Now that curfew was mentioned, we were indeed at the classroom building way past curfew. Curfew starts at 11:00 PM. If only I looked at my watch to know when every single event happened last night. But that’s not something a normal person would do, of course. Incidents like these happen abruptly without notice.
“Shiro? What are you doing here?” Someone suddenly called me from behind.
I turned back and saw that it was Aspye, “Oh…hi, Aspye. Nothing. I’m just investigating.”
“Did you find anything?”
I shake my head and said, “No. Nothing good at all. All I got was me being locked inside the room for a few minutes just now.”
“You got yourself locked in?”
“Yeah. Just now. But for some reason it unlocked itself. I got out and waited out for a bit and then the door locks itself back. I don’t get it.”

“Didn’t you read the room’s timetable? You probably got locked during lunch hour.”
“What about the door being unlocked momentarily then, Aspye?”
“Don’t you remember during our orientation?”
“What are you talking about, Aspye?” Aspye seems to be telling me something important.
Aspye sighed and explained, “Since the door had an automated lock system, someone will definitely lock themselves in the room during those two intervals. So the campus made a solution to this for anyone who got them locked in. Every 7th minute after the lock was activated; the door will unlock itself for one minute. Meaning that, if you lock yourself during lunch hour which is 12:00 PM…then you have to wait until it was 12:07. The door then lock itself back when it is 12:08. It will then unlock itself again on 12:14 and so on. You know the drill.”
“I see…That is indeed something so insignificant for a student to remember…”
“I know right? But it is necessary since we are going to be using it.”
“Well, thanks for telling me that.” I patted his shoulder once and said, “I’ll keep that in mind and hope that I don’t end up locking myself in the door next time.”
“It’ll be funny if you got yourself locked in again after you said that.” Aspye laughed as he said that.
“Oh one more thing, Aspye.” I stopped him once I remembered something else.
“What is it, Shiro?”
“You seem to have a really good memory, huh? I can’t believe you could remember something so insignificant like that.”
Aspye laughed and said, “I guess you could say that it is a part of my talent that I was born with. Being able to remember insignificant things and what not.”
“Well that’s too bad. If only you could take that away right?”
“Well you can’t really take away an important memory, right? Only the insignificant ones are the one that you usually forget. It’s just how our brain works. It’s like magic.”
“Indeed it is. Well then, I’ll be off. Thanks for helping me out, Aspye.”
“No problem.”
We parted ways and went on to our separate ways. Looks like I didn’t get anything from that excursion. What a waste of time, really. Maybe I should just go back and take a look at Hunter’s scene and see what else I can gather…
As I was reaching the room, someone suddenly got out of the room. It was Jenna. I called her from afar. She noticed me and she immediately run away from me. Why is she running away? The only reason to her running away could either be that she did something or she is afraid of me. But I’m not that scary…weird. However, I also pick up the pace and chased her.
“Hey, Jenna. Hold on!” I tried calling for her but she completely ignored me.
Alright that’s it. She’s definitely involved in this case in some way or another. First, she’s a participant in The Battle Royal. Second, she was the first person to saw Tara was injured. And third, she’s running away from me knowing that I’m investigating this case. I’m not going to let her get away now. I have to stop her in somehow. She quickly made her way to the only lift in the building and quickly closed the lift door and went down.
“Darn it!” Once again, I punched another door.
Then I looked at the stairs and figured that she will probably be further away if I use the stairs. I looked the other way which was the balcony. I know that I’m the type of person who doesn’t really do the stupidest thing in the world but…I’m definitely going to be one today. I climbed the balcony railings and jumped off the building. As I was falling down, I immediately used my ghostly abilities to slow down my falling speed. As I was about to drop down death to the floor, my feet suddenly hovers a few centimetres away from the ground. Thankfully I was able to levitate myself just in time. I’m very grateful to know that I’m a ghost. If not, by now I might already be a…ghost…Well that’s just sad…
But in any case, the lift door opened and to her surprise I was already waiting for Jenna in front of it. She had nowhere else to escape.
“Enough, Jenna. You can stop running away now.”
Jenna sighed and said, “Fine…”
Finally, I’m about to reach the final verdict to this case…
