《Stardust Universe》Chapter 1.23 - Yumiko - The Mistakes of My Past

Tomorrow will be the Gem Festival, I already know what's going to happen and I'm going through it to the end.
While those guys were still asleep at the Inn, I actually went outside that morning. I decided that it was time for me to get out of the place. I don’t really want to join the parade until Violet, my familiar appeared right before me and spoke to me.
“Where are you going, Yumiko?” Violet begins to solidify herself and stood in front of me.
I crossed my arms and sighed, “I’m just getting some fresh air.”
“This early?” she raised her eyebrows at me. “You can’t lie to me like how you lie to everyone.”
I closed my eyes and smiled and said to her, “Of course you could tell I was lying…” I opened my eyes and walked around the road, “You know me the most.”
Violet then joined me as we walked through the dimly lit road. We passed by the closed shopping district and went through the main square where the fountain was placed at the middle. The fountain was the only thing active besides the street lights that was starting to get dimmer as the sun was about to appear in a few more hours.
“What are you doing then?” after minutes of silence, Violet finally questions me with that.
I turned my head to her and softly said, “Can I just like…leave those three and head back to the campus?”
“Why would you do that? Didn’t Vatherion order you to keep an eye on White?”
I find a bench and sat on it. I rest my arm on the bench and replied to her, “I don’t really like doing this Watcher thingy. It’s a complete waste of time for me. I should have made plan on ways to kill that little bird. I mean that’s basically my real duty over here.”
Violet looks at the fountain and said, “Lord Kitsuneki’s order. Kill the Snow Phoenix seven times. But, the last kill will only be when the lord himself signals it. Which means…you have one free kill left.”
“Exactly. My fun will end if I do this tomorrow.”
“But it is your duty, Yumiko. You must execute it eventually.”
I looked at the starry night sky and wondered, “I honestly don’t know why Lord Kitsuneki wanted me to kill that undying bird for seven times. Will something happen when I get that last kill?”

“Who knows? Maybe it’s one of the requirements for him to resurrect a Chaos Beast.”
“You’re probably right, Violet.” I looked back at Violet who was sitting beside the fountain, touching the waters.
“If only I’m not stuck doing this kind of things. Being ordered around isn’t really my style…”
“It’s not like you have a choice when it is blackmail…” Violet gave me a serious look.
“Blackmail, huh…” I solemnly looked at her serious face.
The nightly conversation really reminds me of another conversation I had years ago. It was a pleasant night but the conversation ended sourly. It was back then in high school. When I was known as the most attractive student there…
It’s a pretty standard story. The fact that I am that attractive means that I will be approached by a bunch of guys. I’ve fallen for this one guy back then when all of sudden he decided that we should talk. So I went and waited for him until he finally appears. He said that it was best that we parted ways. I asked him for the reason to it but he didn’t give me a straight answer.
It wasn’t because he needs to refocus on studying or that he was moving away. It got to the point where I finally snapped and pressed him the truth. He was surprised at the mood swing that I had. He ran away from me and that was the last time we ever had a conversation.
I didn’t really know what happened but as time went on I realized something was wrong. No other boys ever approached me ever since that breakup. Soon I learned that he was actually forced to break by the other boys who got jealous. They said that I am not just for one person. I am to be shared. They think of me as just an idol. An idol that they will be done for once they used up all my fame. That’s just shows how I now despise the guys.
But it’s not just that. The fact that I am blessed with such a pretty face, it is actually a curse hidden in plain sight. No other girl wanted to be my friend at all because they think they aren’t on the same level as I am. Some of them were even jealous of me and decided that it was good if I was punished in some sort of way. I can’t remember how many times I have lost my shoes or my track suit. I couldn’t remember how long I washed my desk with all those smelly food they splattered all over it. I didn’t even remember having a single girl talked to me friendly besides the teacher or whenever they dropped something near my desk.

But I saved the best for last of course, there was once where I got sick and decided to rest at the medical room. As I woke up and got out from the bed, hairs started to appear over the bed. I didn’t know what happened until I looked at the mirror and saw that I lost a bunch of my hair. Yes, my hair was cut by someone. They even left a note saying I should just kill myself. It was at that moment where I finally have had it.
I decided to lock my heart from everyone and become the Yumiko that you all know today. I’m no longer a pushover. Haters got to hate, I just went and step all over them. I forced everyone in my team to do exactly as I said during the Magic Duel and in the end, we won first place.
Being a Watcher is no more than having your student card having this weird symbol on it. This symbol is actually a Chaos Seed. A Chaos Seed once activated will force the entire Watcher to be controlled. It’s kind of like Sam’s Absolute Order except it requires a medium. Vatherion is planning something sinister but for some reason…I think I want to mess with him a little.
“I’ll take my leave, Violet.” I got off the bench.
“But what about your friends?”
“Friends? They’re not my friends.” I walked away from the square and pulled out my flintlock. “I’ll just use this Clone Bullet and make a clone of me. No one will notice while I’m away."
I shot myself with the Clone Bullet, a clone of myself was created and went back to the Inn and slept. I opened a portal using a Portal Bullet and went back to the campus. Violet joined me as well.
“What are you planning, Yumiko?”
“Nothing big, really. You should hide. I’m meeting someone.”
Violet was still confused but she heeded my order and hid into her own realm. I was on my way to meet two other people. The first one was Blanc.
As soon as I saw her, I ambushed her from behind and grabbed both of her national treasures.
“W-what the heck are you doing, Yumiko?!” Blanc jumped.
I laughed and said, “It’s alright. It’s just a greeting from me. What’s up?”
“Greeting, huh? Then I should return the favour as well, right?”
“Okay, back off, woman.” I pointed my flintlock then said to her, “I’m just passing by and saw you. Have you seen Sam?”
We talked for a bit and parted ways. Later on, I met up with Sam who was happily drinking at The Pen.
I changed my mood and angrily made my way to her.
“Hey, female dog!”
Sam turned around and saw me.
“Yeah, I’m talking to you! I have some serious issue that needs to be settled between us.”
“And what is that, Yumiko?” Sam got out from her chair.
I went to her and grabbed her collar with both of my hand.
“Listen up; White is not one of your new toys. You have enough toys already in this campus, you female dog. That speck of dust is mine and only mine alone. Only I am allowed to torture his brain.”
“Ew…torture? What am I? A sadist? Forget it then, you can take him. I don’t freaking care.”
“Exactly!” I let her go and got away from The Pen.
All of that ruckus was just an act as I quickly dialed back my mood and smiled devilishly. Violet appeared right next to me and questioned me.
“What are you doing with those two cards?”
Violet noticed that I stole both Blanc and Sam’s student card. I brought out my own student card as well and threw the three of it into the sky. I brought both of my flintlocks and turned it into rapid fire mode. I shot the student cards as many times as possible until nothing was left. I even burned it just to make sure.
I responded to Violet, “Let’s just say that we lost our Student Card. We can just reissue a new one later. But only after I’m done messing around.”
“What are you doing?”
“I’m making the best show ever. You and I will be the front seat VIP in this magnificent show.” I laughed maniacally.
Violet then shakes her head and smiled, “There is a time where I still couldn’t understand you and this is one of it…”
I stopped laughing and said, “Alright…it is show time!”
