《Stardust Universe》Chapter 1.10 - White - Allegedly Wind Descendants

After 7 days of nothing, I finally woke up from my slumber. Apparently, I ran out of steam after I used up all of my Infinitum energy when using that Time-Space Manipulation magic. I’m not really sure how I managed to do that but it looks like that kind of ability shouldn’t be used very often. I’m just going to waste days of worthwhile thing that I could have done for a week. Zenith was right next to me as I woke up. As expected, she would be the only person in this campus who would help me out at this time. I really should start making friends. Maybe my first step could be trying to befriend with my dorm mates. But that’s not a big of a problem I think. I can handle that.
-
I said I could handle but apparently it was a lot tougher than I expected. I stumble upon myself not knowing what to do at a crowded place. The Pen was supposedly the place where you hang out with your campus friends but I don’t even have one to begin with. The only people I acquainted with so far were my dorm mates and Zenith. That’s not a lot to be honest. And you know what? This was stupid. I should of just don’t bother with this thing.
“I can survive this on my own.” I said so to myself as I was about to get out of The Pen.
But then, suddenly, an unexpected meeting begins to unfold. From a short distance, a girl was seen to be carrying a bunch of box on her own. No one else was there. She seems to be struggling trying to carry those boxes. And in just a moments later, the entire boxes fell down to the floor as expected. I looked around to see if there was anyone else who notices her but apparently there wasn’t. I guess I have to be the gentleman over there even though it was a bit tiring for me. I just wanted to go back to my room and rest but I have to help this girl.
“Should you be carrying these all on your own?” I approached the girl.
“It’s so weird. I should be able to carry all of these…” she replied.
“Well for one. You’re just a girl. And the other thing is that these are too many for you to carry alone.”

“I think I went a little overboard when I figured I could carry all of these considering I was able to carry something heavier than these…”
I look at the girl and if I have to describe her appearance, she has a nice sense of fashion. She adorned herself with a messy looking front hair and a ponytail at the back. Her hair was green. And surprisingly enough, both of her eyes were in different colour. That’s pretty rare. Her right eye was the same as her hair but her left eye was golden coloured.
“Woah…your eye…they are…”
“Yeah.” She closed her golden eye with her hand and said, “I get that a lot. It’s just a case of Heterochromia…”
“Hetero-what?”
“Heterochromia…to be more precise, its Heterochromia iridum. A rare condition for people with two different eye colours. I happen to have it when I was born.” explained her.
“I see. That’s actually cool.” I carried some of the box
“I know right? It’s something that I should be proud of really.”
“Should? I thought you are already proud of having that.”
She stopped and said, “Well I wasn’t proud of it to begin with…not when I’m the centre of attention or anything…”
I decided not to dwell on her problems and continue carrying the boxes to her destination. Few minutes later, we have finally reached the place. It wasn’t your normal classroom because they have a stage inside of it.
“Is this the Entertainment Magic class?” I asked the girl.
“Yes. I’m in it. What about you? I haven’t seen you before.” She puts down the box on a table and turned to me.
“I’m taking Magic Studies.”
“Magic Studies, huh? Cool. What’s your name by the way?”
“Cyclone White. Just call me White. My family has a tradition hence the weird naming arrangement there.”
She shakes her head and said, “Don’t be. We have the same tradition actually.” She then smiled and said, “And funnily enough, we also have similar name.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m Typhon Blanc. Typhon is my family name and Blanc is what everyone calls me. Typhon is actually Typhoon in le francais and Blanc means White in le francais.”
“You’re from Francia?”
Blanc laughed, “No. Not really. My mom gave birth to me when she was at Francia. It just so happen that both of my parents were in the mood to use the language of love.”

“Wow. What a lousy parent don’t you think?” I laughed.
“Indeed they are.” She laughed as well.
As we were laughing, another unexpected meetup was about to befall upon me.
“Hey dude, duck!”
A dude was seen running with a deadly aura from his fist. He was approaching us. I listened to his order and ducked. Apparently he was targeting someone else. He was targeting Blanc. He punched through her and went pass both of us.
“Sorry about that, buddy. I didn’t mean to be rude to your friend. But we have some unfinished business over here.”
“Can we not do this today?” Blanc said to the dude. “I’m quite busy right now.”
“Busy? But you were just talking to that guy? Can’t you have some time with me? Just for a little while, Blanc?” He pleaded to her.
“Look, I’m not in the mood bro…”
“Time’s up. Let’s do this!” The guy ignored her and ran toward us once again.
The dude clapped his hands once and his body suddenly became transparent and went through me. Yes, he went through me. Through my own body. I didn’t feel anything except a chilling breeze. He sized up his fist and went to punch Blanc but it was suddenly blocked by a huge sword.
“I’m not going to be an idiot. So I prepared myself this time.” Blanc told him, “You can’t go through anything belonging to me. Not today.”
“Darn it.”
“Now begone, ghost!”
Blanc raised her other hand to his face and a shining bright light begins to appear and blew away the dude to the wall. Looks like the battle was over.
“Wow that was…something…who is he?“
Blanc explained, “Just some idiot that I met last week when I was out hunting.”
“Hunting?”
“I’ll tell you later, White. That blue haired bastard you’re looking at is Hariken Shiro. And coincidentally, he also has the same name and tradition as us. It’s like we were destined to meet or something.” She sounded a little bit annoyed.
“Hey, bro.” the dude stood up and said, “You have similar name as well? You can call me Shiro. Hariken is Hurricane and Shiro is White. Both of those are in Nihonggo. And yeah, I’m from Nihon. The land of the rising sun.”
“Shiro? I see…” I slowly nodded.
“Well then. Looks like you’re next.” He gave me his hand.
I nervously shake his hands and said, “Next?”
“Next on the line to see which of us is the better Wind Family successor.”
“Wind Family successor? What?”
Blanc got close to me and said, “What’s going on right now is that Shiro believes that the three of us come from the same ancestor and Shiro wants to find out which of us is the better descendant of the Wind Family. Not that I have any single ability related to wind to prove my roots.”
“Okay…this just got a little bit weird…Can I step out?”
“Only after we finish settling who’s the better descendant.” Shiro clenched his fist. Ready for another fight.
I sighed and in an instant, Shiro was stuck on the ceiling. I actually Paused the time and did a wind uppercut to him. I better get the stupid matter over before it even begins.
“What the? You already beat me? I wasn’t ready, bro!” Shiro was confused as he was struggling to get out of the ceiling.
“Your ability…” I ignored Shiro and turned to Blanc, “Is it Light Manipulation?”
“That’s just my elemental magic. My real ability is summoning this huge sword, here.” She showed me her half mechanical half...uh...monster? Whatever it was but it was definitely a huge sword.
“That’s a different weapon…You don’t see a girl carrying that kind of thing every day.”
“I call this The Devourer. It’s totally different. It is a living weapon and it needs to be fed after a big fight.”
“What have you been doing with that weapon ever since?”
“I uh…slain huge monsters…This guy have a big stomach. The smallest it can get is a cow. One whole cow.”
“So you’ve been hunting for food then?”
“Yup.”
Then suddenly, her Devourer started to erupt and a monstrous mouth started to appear from within the sword. It tried to do something but Blanc prevented it.
“What was that?!”
“That’s The Devourer. I did say that it is alive right?”
“Oh…yeah…”
“You know what? Let’s go feed this thing. You can come as well, Shiro.”
And somehow, I ended up hanging out with these two. Following to other people that I barely knew. What could go wrong?

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
