A ruthless invasion by a neighboring Empire causes the Kingdom of Granbelle take up arms in a bitter struggle. It's strongest knight, Gilliam McLain, fights valiantly, even taking the head of many generals and countless enemy soldiers. Even after years of war, Granbelle lives on, resisting the invasion of the larger nation. However no one expected that the Kingdom would fall not to the enemy's blades, but to the traitor's schemes. Craven nobles that were promised wealth and power after Granbelle's fall poison most of Granbelle's knights' food, causing it's strongest forces to be unable to defend it. When the Empire's forces come to finish Granbelle off, Gilliam McLain, as well as 100 other knights, fight to defend the crown. Eventually, the 100 knights under Gilliam McLain die, and only he remains. Somehow, through his skills, strength and sheer willpower, Gilliam is able to repel the Empire's advance yet again, however, he dies due to his injuries shortly after. 10 years later, perhaps due to overwhelming regret and negative emotions or perhaps due to the whims of some God, Gilliam rises again as an Specter, only to find that his Kingdom had fallen long ago, and the traitors that caused it now rule over the lands as they oppress it's people. Gilliam uses his newfound powers to raise his 100 comrades, who had fought with him, from the dead then rides with them to exact vengeance on the traitors and the Empire. After years of relentless pursuit, finally, they successfully hunt down all the traitors and cause the Empire to collapse, only for Gilliam to feel the emptiness that came with it. Gilliam laments how far he and his brothers had strayed from the path of Knighthood. Gilliam sheds the name McLain, which was bestowed upon his family by the first King of Granbelle, feeling unworthy of it. Now, he and his subordinate knights wander the world, looking for a King to serve.

Zeyziel, one of the last remaining Primal Celestials, is devastated when she witnesses what the mortals below were doing.
