《Dark Cat under Light cover》Book 1 - Chapter 8

Tilting her head, Amadeus saw a small black squirrel talking nonstop.
«So that's how the [Animal Language] skill works.» thought Amadeus.
She didn't hurry to answer the squirrel yet, instead...
«Little pervert, right now, you're sitting on a naked girl's chest. You're going to get...» Amadeus turned away and playfully placed her hand over her mouth.
«No... I... I'm not a pervert. I was just glad to... No... No, I'm not glad at all, not even a little bit glad! Okay?!» the squirrel jumped off the girl's chest, continuing to make excuses.
If she were human, she would definitely look red like a tomato.
«Be quiet, little one,» Amadeus said and walked over to the prize chest.
«As I remember, these chests usually contain equipment. I hope so because it would be uncomfortable without clothes,» Amadeus thought as she opened the chest, «Phew... Well, at least I won't be without clothes.»
In the chest was a white, sleeveless, thigh-length shirt. It had clouds embroidered on it with silver thread. There was also a pair of black boots with a low heel, and... Shorts?
«This is the Other World. Why are there shorts here?» she thought.
Under all these clothes was a white mask without a slit for eyes.
«If the mask has no eye slits, why does it even need one?» thought Amadeus.
It was illogical. Remembering that Amadeus was, in fact, from the Other World, which sounded more illogical, she decided to put the mask on. But...
«Are you actually listening to me?! Well, no respect for me! What does that even mean?» the squirrel began to wail.
Amadeus turned and looked intently at the squirrel. The squirrel flinched slightly and asked in a trembling voice, «Why are you looking at me like that, human?»

«First of all, I'm not a human. Second, you're too noisy,» she replied, putting on her clothes.
«No, you are definitely... Wait... YOU WHAT, UNDERSTAND ME?» shouted the squirrel.
With shock in her voice, she continued, «Humans can't talk with animals... Then it turns out... You're an animal?!»
«I've already answered that question. I'm not human and never have been one,» said Amadeus.
It was true. Even in a past life, she was not a human. To be more accurate, Amadeus was a half-breed. Half-human, half-demon. Neither humans nor demons accepted her...
«Tch... Why am I even remembering this?» she thought.
Just remembering it made her angry.
«You look like a human, so you're human!!!» said the squirrel.
«You look like a squirrel, but you behave like a child,» answered Amadeus.
«What squirrel?! I'm Sincis, by the way!!!» said the squirrel smugly and lifted her furry face.
«So your name is Sincis?» asked Amadeus.
«Ha... Are you stupid? By the way, Sincis is the name of my race! Eat that, human?! Are you happy to have such a rare companion?!» it said.
Wagging her tail, Sincis looked like a child bragging about her grades.
«Do you have a name?» asked Amadeus.
Honestly, she liked Sincis's behavior.
«A name is something that gives us, our companions,» said Sincis and looked at her with a waiting expression.
«You want me to give you a name?» asked Amadeus, but it was clear from the squirrel's look.
«Ha! I don't need a name... But just for the record, I don't mind if you give me one.» said Sincis, wagging her tail.
Before making up a name, a brilliant idea occurred to Amadeus, and she immediately voiced it, «Are you even a boy or a girl?»

Squirrel fainted. A few seconds later, it jumped up, turned its ass to Amadeus, and lifted her tail.
«Look at this. What kind of stupid question is that?» yelled the squirrel.
«And what I'm supposed to find here?» asked Amadeus, crouching and made a smart face.
In fact, Amadeus had realized a long time ago that the squirrel was a girl but decided to play a joke on her.
«That's right! There's nothing there!» the squirrel continued to yell, «No nuts! And that means I...»
«Yep. That's right.» Amadeus interrupted, «And where do you get your nuts? Do you eat your own?»
«Wha-a-a-t?» the squirrel yelled even louder, «That's... I had them with me! In my mouth!»
«Yeah, okay, okay. Calm down.» said Amadeus, «I already know you're a girl. Just stop twisting your shame right in front of my face.»
Amadeus began to giggle softly.
Squirrel put her tail down quickly, turned around, got into a meerkat stance, and froze. Her eyes went blank, and she seemed to pass out. Amadeus waited a few seconds and decided to take care of her business.
She put on her mask, and a message appeared in front of her eyes.
«DING!!!»

«Not bad,» Amadeus said, « Again, something's obviously wrong with the descriptions.»
«Maybe it's a problem not with the text, but its interpretation of the translation in my mind?» she thought, «Yeah. That would make sense. I'm not, like, from around here.»
«Well, or a crooked description,» Amadeus said, smirking, «Hackneyed.»

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Strangler
A jackass, a Muscle Wizard, and a woman who just wants to fish. In a Sword & Sorcery type of world, can the jackass be the hero he always wanted to be? Or will his mere presence ruin the lives around him. Main Character's Debt tracker added. What to expect: A slow paced story focused on the characters rather than the fate of the world. Weak Lead, his progression would be slow. Pathetic and dependent, I hate him. :) Upload Times: Tuesday/Friday 7:00Am CST (Would switch to MWF when I have more free time)
