《The Misadventures of a Young Dark Magician》Episode 20 [Season Finale] (Part 1)

Lauren’s sight ended up bathed in warm light in a place away from everyone else.
This warm feeling. Did I die? Is this heaven? No, it can’t be. I don’t deserve this.
She looked over and found that she wasn’t the only one in this strange white world. Troy floated a few feet away from her. He looked over and frowned, knowing full well that she would want an explanation for all this.
“Lauren, I’m sorry.” Troy said, “I don’t know how to face you or the others again.”
“I trusted you, but you used me.” Lauren thundered. “What were you doing behind my back, and why?”
“I’m sorry for lying to you about who killed my parents.” Troy apologized as he bowed his head. “I just wanted to help my dad. It was selfish, I know. I didn’t even think he was evil, but he promised to teach me dark magic. Why else would I ask someone I didn’t know for help?”
“You mean me?”
“Yeah, you didn’t question why I asked you for help specifically.”
“I don’t remember...”
“Well, I didn’t care for anything else, but as we spent time together, I felt sorry for—”
“Quit lying!” Lauren interrupted. “How can I believe what you’re saying when you’ve been lying to me all this time?”
“Lauren, I know you’re upset, understandably so, but I—”
“Get out.”
“What?”
“I don’t want to see you ever again.” Lauren turned her back.
Tears in his eyes, Troy gave up trying to excuse his actions to her. He turned and walked away, but not before leaving her some small words. Lauren spun around; however, Troy had already left and a brighter light overcame her and covered the area.

Opening her eyes, Lauren found she returned to Streterra, still destroyed, just like all those years ago, when she lost everything. This time, it was all her fault. She looked around and realized that, despite the state of the school, nobody had died.
She wasn’t sure how many ended up injured, but one thing was for sure, she felt betrayed — putting all her time and efforts into helping Troy’s selfish desires come true.
The Principal was right, wasn’t she? Why didn’t I...? She thought as she stared at the ground. “I’m sorry, mom, dad, I failed you both.”
“It’s all right.” A male and female voice told her.
Startled, Lauren looked up and saw that both of her parents were hovering in front of her. Was she dreaming? Was this a figment of her imagination? Lauren felt her face and realized that her shades were missing. Glancing to the floor, she saw them, now broken. She was seeing crystal clear now.
“You... forgive me?” Lauren reiterated as she looked back up to face her parents for the first time in years. “But after all that I did, how can you still—?”
“It doesn’t matter.” Lauren’s father interjected with a shake of his head.
“All that matters is our love for you. And that will never disappear no matter what.” Lauren’s mother added. “Besides, you’ve learned your lesson, right?” She placed her hand on Lauren’s head.
“Mm-hmm?” Lauren nodded slowly. Her eyes got watery as she rushed over to embrace the two. “I wish I could be with you guys, just a little longer...”
“Don’t worry; we’ll always be with you right here.” Lauren’s mom gave a reassuring smile and pointed to her daughter’s chest.
The three said their goodbyes as her parents slowly vanished. Lauren watched from the heavens and waved. Once they disappeared, Lauren collapsed to the ground. She buried her face in her hands and sobbed quietly to herself. She then heard someone walk up behind her. Lifting her head, the Principal approached her as she extended her arm towards her.

“I am so, so sorry.” Lauren choked on her words as she took the Principal’s hand, pulling herself up to her feet.
“I am too.” The Headmistress replied. “Unfortunately, you will not get away with this. You were still an accomplice and committed crimes, and for that, you’ll receive a punishment, understand?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Hmm, I wonder where Troy is now...”
“Oh, I wouldn’t worry too much about him...”
“Why do you say that?”

Techno-Heretic
Eli is an ancient man sentenced to death for the crime of surpassing the sacred number of 32.8, which is the allowed percentage of increased mental ability from the use of AI chips. As he journeys through death and into a world of fantasy and magic, he finds himself approaching never before seen heights of magical power and ability. Powers that will shape the world and would see him go down in legends for generations ever after. But just because someone acquires magical abilities, that doesn't mean magic is suddenly the most important thing in their life. Some people aren't looking to be all-powerful gods, have the world bow at their feet, or spend their days obsessing over accumulating ever more power. Some people just want acceptance, stability, and the warmth of their loved ones to drive away the cold loneliness of the night. And in a world where magic is the bedrock of society, where magic is what determines who is preferred for siring children, where people with high magical ability are destined to live in great luxury and those without magic simply live to make due, this difference in values and perspective could not have a starker contrast. As Eli and the people around him navigate the misconceptions and deceptions of this world, he will represent a great and magnificent future for the human race. One where humanity will stand above the elves, dwarves, orcs, fairies, and all the horrors of the world. Sadly, men's tools are as fallible as the people who make them, and in a society where the potential of an individual is determined solely through their magical level, this seed of promise may yet turn venomous. Campaign: A Project Starfarer Sidestory
This novel’s lore, story and characters are entirely fictitious. Certain long-standing countries, institutions, organizations, agencies, and public offices are mentioned, but their histories and the characters involved are wholly imaginary. "What will you do with your freedom?"Growing up in a meritocracy, infamous for being lawless, Jordan Astros had been repeatedly asked this question, since times unmemorable. In a society where one's accomplishments and skills were tallied and ranked in order to determine one's standard of living however, Jordan quickly grew to understand that 'freedom,' was a reward earned by accumulating Merit. And so, after his 17th birthday, Jordan departed his Clan's habitat in orbit of Europa to embark on his century-long journey to rise from E-Ranker to S-Rank. And spread his name throughout the Galilean Powers. *** Campaign is a sidestory within its NanoPunk parent series, Project Starfarer. (Yet to be published. Be on the lookout for it!) In which the first transhuman known to humanity, the Starfarer, invokes a plan to seed terrestrial life throughout the galaxy. Campaign takes place around the middle of that timeline and explores the life of a key figure in that universe, Jordan Astros. And explores one of four great nations thriving in the Solar System during that time. A Meritocracy that spans Jupiter and its 79 moons, The Galilean Powers. What you'll find in Campaign: Brutal melee combat in airless and pressurized low gravity environments. A technology based progression system influenced by merit and accomplishments; using tech that's theoretically possible to exist in the near-future. An exploratory perspective of the dozens of Galilean societies, or 'Powers,' from Jordans; and sometimes others', POV. What you wont find: Romance. Harems. An MC who receives shortcuts, handouts, learns things unnaturally fast or has OP plot armor. Jordan is not a special individual. Jordan is not OP and he likely never will be. He's no different than any other citizen in the Galilean Powers and will certainly face as many defeats as he does wins. He'll suffer losses and grow as an individual, while the Powers evolves around him as well. This is semi-hard sci-fi/NanoPunk and takes place in a fictional version of our future solar system. Centered around technology that's plausible in the near-centuries to come. Everything abides by the laws of physics/thermodynamics (As best that I understand them, at least. I'm no scientist.) No artificial gravity, inertial dampeners, teleportation, FTL, or hand-wavy materials will be found in the Project Starfarer universe. Just advanced automation, nanotechnology, cybernetics and AI. Set in the backdrop of space. *I do not own the photo used for the cover*
