《Noblesse Oblige: Ascendance》Chapter 4: Nobles

Dragged by the rope that bound his Hands, Ray had to try hard to control himself and not start cussing outright.
Right after he and Lisa had been taken down, Odo and Bert tied up their hands, leaving only a short leash for them to pull at.
Sarah was already out of commission when Max got his leg cut up, so Odo simply threw her over his shoulder, carrying her like a bag of potatoes.
Dealing with Max turned out to be a bit harder for them. Not wanting to deal with any more trouble, they decided against killing him, since Ray and Lisa may have gotten aggressive again.
To get him down the mountain, and to wherever they were going to, Max was bound, from beneath his shoulders to his waist, with rope and dragged across the ground. His wound still open, Max quickly lost consciousness, bleeding profusely as they proceeded.
'I hope it won't take much longer to get to their camp.' Seeing his condition, Ray was quite worried about Max's health. He didn't like him particularly nor would he, under normal circumstances, care about him, but doing nothing while he was dying, especially if he could still be saved, didn't sit right with him.
"Sirs, may I how long we still have to walk to get to your camp?
My friend over here doesn't look like he can endure this much longer."
"Hahaha, 'Sirs' he says! Does he think treating us like nobles would change anything?"
"Don't worry kid, we'll be there soon enough, and if he doesn't survive, then that is his Fate. Nothing we could do about it."
Hearing Bert's laughter and Odo's nonsensical reply, Ray's temples popped up, 'Nothing we could do?! Not to mention that it's your fault he's bleeding in the first place, you even have the face to blame Fate when he ends up dying!'
...
After advancing a while in this manner tents slowly came into view.
The camp was built into a small valley, surrounded by steep cliffs, except on the northern and southern side.

The tents had all sorts of colors and sizes, arranged in a manner that seemed to have no pattern, with the only noteworthy thing being the shade of the colors getting darker the further one walked to the center.
"Halt! Who are you?!"
As soon as the group arrived in front of the camp, a voice called out to them, seeking identification.
"Odo of the 3rd infantry brigade, 2nd division, Tohil Legion, coming back from patrol. We caught a few suspected scouts and have to see the commanders immediately!"
The guard was at first unperturbed, only asking for appearance's sake, but when he heard 'Scout', he instantly transformed into a proper soldier, running off to find his superior.
Odo, however, didn't even bother waiting for him to come back and continued on his way into the insides of the camp.
Once he was within, the sounds of tinkering and forging, laughter and fighting and, to his dismay, screaming and crying, assaulted Ray's ears.
The smell perpetrating the air was reminiscent of blood and sweat, making his blood boil and awakening a strange desire to struggle again, against Odo, even though he knew it would be useless.
Walking through the camp, almost every soldier gave the group a weird glance or gawked at the girls with a lustful look in their eyes.
The camp wasn't too big, so it only took them a few moments to walk to the center, in front of the biggest tent.
Two guards stood before them, not even moving their eyes at their arrival. The equipment they wore looked to be of better quality, suggesting a higher status than the common soldier.
The guard from the gate must have reached the commanders' tent before them, as it took only a few seconds of waiting for an authoritarian voice to reach their ears.
"Are you waiting for an invitation? Hurry in we are busy!"
Rushed by the voice, Bert pushed Ray and Lisa into the tent, quickly following after. Odo also went in, although a lot less hurried.
When Ray stumbled inside, he was immediately pushed onto his knees

and gripped by the hair, his face pulled up to better showcase his features.
"We greet the esteemed nobles!"
Both soldiers put their right hand on to their chest, shouting some kind of formal greeting.
"Mmh, so these are the scouts you caught?"
The man who spoke had the same authoritarian voice they had heard outside the tent. He had incredibly fierce looking features and a stature that bulged with muscles. His short red hair and the dangerous glint in his eyes only reinforced the impression of a seasoned warrior.
To his right and left sat, respectively, a middle-aged man and a young girl, possibly in her twenties.
All three of them looked at the students with a curious expression like they were watching some rare animal at the zoo.
Ray noticed that especially the middle-aged man showed an amused grin, but his eyes were completely frozen over, not a hint of emotion visible within.
"Your Lordships, before we begin I wanted you to know that we are definitely no scou-"
THUD
"SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH MAGGOT! HOW DARE YOU SPEAK IN FRONT OF THESE HONORABLE NOBLES!!!"
Hitting Ray's head on the floor Bert made him stop talking. Right after he looked up to the Nobles, a flattering expression on his face. Whether or not his anger was real, the intent behind the action showed.
Waving his hand, the middle-aged noble dismissed Bert's actions,
"It doesn't matter if you're a scout or not. Coming close to the army camp, during an expedition, is an insult to the brave soldiers and more importantly us Nobles. No excuse could pardon your crimes, and you all should be executed. Odo, YOU were the one who found them, so you'll be the one to end them."
"A-At once, your Excellency!" His eyes shifting and teeth almost clattering, Odo barely managed to response.
But as he tried to pull his sword out, the man in the middle voiced his discontent.
"Count Selwin, wouldn't it be inappropriate to dispose of them right now? After all, we are in the midst of a campaign."
Squinting his eyes the Count challenged the other Noble.
"So you are suggesting to let them go? These possible enemy scouts?"
"No, but we could torture them to get information and, afterward, bring them in front of His Majesty to be judged."
"Esteemed Baron, I understand your eagerness to...contribute to our glorious country, but I doubt His Majesty has the time to bother with such minor problems. I highly recommend ending this now."
Still pressed against the ground, Ray could feel cold sweat run down his back. The people sitting before him were essentially deciding his Fate. Whether he lived or died, was entirely up to their moods and so far it didn't seem to be going well. Running his mind, he couldn't think of anything he could do, as he wasn't even allowed to speak, not to mention defend himself. He couldn't count on the others either. Two were still unconscious, and the last one had a rather bored look on her face, not even bothering to listen to the conversation.
'How is she not worried?'
To him, it was inconceivable to be that apathetic when someone argued about whether they should torture or just kill you outright.
As he was thinking about such things, the young woman, who was quiet up until, now slammed her hand on the table.
"How can you argue about something so inconsequential as these peasants death right now?! We should focus on our duty and secure the border! There's not a speck of time to waste, so forget them and concentrate!"
For Ray, this was a godsend. He couldn't help but want to crawl up to and thank her a thousand times.
But as he thought his life was saved and the didn't have to worry anymore, the conversation continued.
"What do you suggest then, Miss Crowell?"
"Isn't it obvious...
Just throw them into the pit."

8 202Chronicles Of The Storylord: 12th Chronicle - Origin
Twelve souls were chosen to expand into the void surrounding the known universe(s), and were given a grace period in which they would experience a relatively safe expansion of their domains. Once that period is up, however, they are free to interact with each other...and what lurks in the depths of the Abyss, the Void, and the Primordial Chaos. I am the 12th soul, but I am not as those others are, for I am merely a shard. My purpose: begin the Tale anew. For I am the Storylord, and I am the Tale. The Tale is all, and all is the Tale, yet the Tale is myself, for I am all in my domain. This is my story, the saga of many, the legend… of the Tale. Just remember this: “This world is but a story, and all the stories are true...” This story is in the same general multiverse as RE: Deity by lightningwarrior21, but will be almost completely separate except in a few chapters. I have permission from him to use his base multiverse, and you should go check out his fiction, it’s really good. http://royalroadl.com/fiction/9597 This ‘fiction’ will be updated sporadically, so don’t expect much of a steady stream of chapters. (I’ll try to do one chapter a week, but no promises.) Suggestions on how to improve this universe helps with the management, so comments are welcome, as are Grammar Nazis. I’ve had this fiction mostly as scattered notes in my google drive, and only recently had enough time to actually put it together, like I promised lightning back in January. (Writer’s block and schoolwork do not mix well.) The cover is not owned by me, I found the image on google images. Anyway, I’ll be back yesterday… or was that tomorrow? (I really need to get that damn causality generator fixed, me-damnit!) See ya!

8 149Grey Worlds
A mysterious incident occurred on a otherwise normal science centered world where all of the children from the age range of eight to sixteen suddenly vanished. “Where have their kids gone and will they ever return?” The now childless parents never got to really ask that question, because a strange new element replaced their lost children. This element slowly mutated the various animals that they once ruled over with their technology to the point that they were immune to their modern weaponry. The barren land of savages on a continent far away from theirs also had their children taken, but they easily mutated just like the beasts and only grew stronger thanks to the incident. A revolution of animals eventually took place after the mutations started to cause the animals to understand just how badly the humans ruined their lives and planet. Humans were the slowest to figure out how to use this strange new element to evolve, while their opponents were evolving and growing stronger by the day they couldn’t even surpass their modern technology. When humanity was on the brink of extinction a long forgotten event finally ended and their children finally started to return from the various worlds they were summoned to! It turns out that the mysterious new element that they didn’t know what to call was mana and that it’s everywhere in some fantasy planets. The children brought back a increase in technology and techniques to grow stronger with, which caused the humans to finally be able to build safe havens for their race. They grew stronger and started to finally adapt to their brand new environment. This is the story of a orphan who was taken away from his world, before he could gain a sense of attachment to the world. Who only has his older sister to care about and how he ends up adapting to the new world in front of him.------------------Dog notes by doggo First 'five' chapters aren't what the story is really about and is more of a prologue. The reason why some are separated into parts is because Doggo originally posted them as a entire chapter. The main setting is Ghost's actual world and not any foreign world. So this story was already posted once to another site or this site three years ago… and Dog is finally ending that three year hiatus! The explanation on why Dog was on a three year hiatus would of been written in the review section, but rrl doesn't allow self reviews. I'd have to create a alt just to self review which they obviously don't want even tho I'd not give myself any stars so its going to be here instead. The update schedule is a chapter a week till Dog get a editor and then two chapters a week till Dog gets enough money to pay for Dog’s bills. The final goal is to release a chapter every other day. Dog writes 4k word chapters so they are about twice as long as some of the other authors so every other day is actually more like once a day. ------------------- The part that was supposed to be the 'review' which Dog wont bother editing out repeat infomation since it wasn't supposed to go here in the first place. The first thing Dog will go over is what changed for the first 5 chapters, so that anyone who still remembers Dog's little novel and wants to continue from where Dog originally left off can decide whether or not to reread it. Also Dog is moving over to qidan simply because dog like the app they have. Dog won't go premium even if Qidan tells dog to and will simply move back to royalroad or create a blog. The things that changed over the years are mainly two important things. The first is that Dog changed the first person point of view to a third person, because Dog read a really bad first person novel and it reminded dog of dogs own novel. Dog also changed the thoughts of the character to be - - instead of italics. Finally dog changed chapter 3 completely to make the mc not seem like a homicidal maniac and introduced a important character in chapter 3.What happened to do in the three years that dog was away? Was dog at college and now needs money to eat? Was dog off in space after successfully becoming a astronaut and has now returned home with a completed novel or two? The answer is actually quite plain dog graduated from highschool and was supposed to only spend a year at dogs owners house to choose what major dog wanted to go to college for.Dog didn't do that and is still stuck with dogs owners and is sick of being a neet. Dog wants to move and buy doggy food, but dog is antisocial and doesn't want to work a simple 9 to 5 job for the rest of dogs life. Dog is a reader before dog is a author and the reason why dog got into writing was because dog wanted to write a novel without all the things dog finds annoying. Dog spent the first year reading various novels and dropping various novels. Dog is all caught up and has to much free time on dogs paws. The first year that Dog took off was the very same year that qidan came out so dog was naturally overloaded with free chapters. But now that pemium exists dog naturally has to limit the amount dog can read. Dog is addicted to reading like my very own readers and can understand your frustrations for dog disappearing for 3 years.Dog decided that dog will go back to writing 2 years ago. Dog wanted a decent stockpile incase dog has any other emergency so dog didn't post for a year but then dog decided to change the point of view which took another year.Dog has a patreon page https://www.patreon.com/mclaindog but there isn't any tiers there or goals till dog gets a editor. My final goal is to release a chapter every other day, but as long as Dog gets a editor Dog will do two free chapters a week.Dog will probably also make a kofi for anyone who just wants to send dog a tip and can't afford to donate money monthly while maybe having bonus chapters if the tip jar gets filled.
