《A king's reincarnation》Chapter 28: A Thousand for one

"It looks like my work here is done, let's go, Ms. maid"
I said as I walked out of the room, out into the open air where many knights are in training.
"u-umm, I-I have a name your highness, it's Sashi. I-I-I didn't mean that I want your highness to call me by my name, it just seemed like saying Ms. maid is much more inconvenient for you."
"I see, then Sashi-san."
"Y-Y-Yes?"
"Let's go to the hospital, there's someone I would like to talk to."
"u-understood."
Both of us walked out of the training grounds and went through the town plaza in order to reach the hospital. Since I have already made my public appearance yesterday, I'm already known throughout the entire kingdom and the number of people who started talking about me increased instantly.
"Look, it's his highness!"
"Now that I'm seeing him up close, he looks much more handsome than when he is in the projection magic!"
"He's now the most handsome man I've ever seen in my entire life!"
"Yeah yeah, I totally agree with you! in my opinion, even his highness, the crown prince is no match to the 2nd prince."
"shhh! don't say that out loud!"
"But still, he really looks so beautiful and handsome at the same time, and that speech he made yesterday was just too amazing and dreamy!"
Sashi and I walked through the streets while greeting some people that we see. This kind of gesture will give everyone in the vicinity a good impression of me, which makes it easier for me to get their trust later on.
After walking for 14 minutes, we finally reached the hospital. I felt the presence of mother in one of the rooms in the highest floor, she must be working right now.
Both of us walked in and went to the receptionist.
"Excuse me, I would like to see the Little black fox girl who was admitted here the day before yesterday. Which room is she in?"
The receptionist who is reading a book looked up to us when she heard my voice.
"E-E-E-EH!? Y-Y-Y-Your highness, w-w-what can I do for y-y-you!?" The receptionist, clearly flustered and shocked with her face beet red asked is in a shaky voice.
"Like I said, a little black fox girl. Which room is she in right now?"
"a-a black fox? is she o-one of those children w-who almost f-fell victims into s-slavery?"
"Yeah"
"I-I see, yesterday, they were already fully healed, that's why the orphanage said that they're going to take care of them temporarily."
"I see, thanks for the info. Let's go, sashi-san."
"Yes."
"p-please wait a second.." The receptionist behind called out to us, we stopped and turned around.
"what is it?" I asked.
"I-If you don't mind. c-c-could you please sign your signature on my hat, y-y-your highness?"
𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩*"𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥?" I thought to myself.
"I don't really mind." I walked over, grabbed the quill and signed on the receptionist's hat."
"T-Thank you very much, your highness, I will turn this into our family heirloom!"
After that, we walked out of the hospital. Since I still don't know where the orphanage is, I had sashi guide me there. On our way, a certain shop caught my eye.
"I'll take a look first. You can wait here if you want."
"I have been tasked with escorting and protecting you, your highness. I will naturaly go wherever you are."

"then do as you like."
I entered the shop and found a short buffed man. His height is around the same level as my elbow. When he saw us, his stern face changed into a look of shock.
"Y-Y-Your highness, w-what c-can this dwarf do for you?" asked the short dwarf.
"𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴" I thought to myself.
"do you have a knife or dagger that can inflict a paralysis state onto a human?"
"Yes! Yes! Please wait there for a sec, I'll go get it right away." the dwarf ran to the backroom and after a few seconds, he came out with a box.
Sashi received the box, placed it on the table and opened it. What greeted our sight are two daggers with a pretty common design.
"I actually made these daggers a few years back, but there are no adventurers that are willing to buy them because most of the monsters are resistant to paralysis. This blue blade, Kripto can paralyze a human for about 10 minutes, If you strike a creature that is paralyzed because of kripto using this green blade called Bane, it will inflict a poison on the enemy that will kill them in just 15 minutes. The poison can only be removed by using a High purification spell."
"I see, I'll take these then, how much is it?"
"You don't need to pay me, your highness. Just consider it as a welcome back gift from me, hahahaha!"
"You have my thanks, I'll make sure to visit you again once I need some weaponry."
"Thank you very much! Your highness!"
... As we are walking through the streets, Sashi, who is in front of me turned around her head a little and asked me.
"umm, your highness, m-may I ask something?"
"what is it?"
"why did you buy those daggers?"
"Oh these? they're for capturing the puppet king of Jahal."
"Eh?"
Sashi who didn't expect my answer, stopped in her tracks and stared at me with shock in her face.
"What are you standing there for? I can already see the orphanage from here, let's go."
"Y-Yes!"
Ignoring the situation earlier, we made our way to the orphanage, but as we drew closer, I felt the presence of a familiar person inside.
"𝘐'𝘮 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦?"
We entered the gates and we saw lots of children playing with each other. The kid that I'm looking for is not in the front yard so we entered the building. The interior is made from wood and in the middle of the hall, there is a huge stair case made out of wood and iron that leads to the second floor.
The familiar presence that I felt earlier drew closer and closer to us from the left hallway. After a few seconds a woman in nun clothing appeared. She has a black hair, brown eyes, her skin is a little tanned and her chest area is a little bigger than the average. All in all, she looks like the typical beautiful woman in the eyes of the masses. But for me who was constantly getting seduced by High class female celebrities and models just because of my looks, wealth, and power. This kind of face is just common.
"Good day to you your highness. My name is Akaen. May I know the reason why you're here?" she asked.
"I'm here to see the little black fox girl that you picked up from the hospital."

"Oh? so your highness is the person that the child has been waiting for? I see, please follow me, I will guide you to her."
Sashi and I followed her to a room at the far end of the right hallway on the second floor. And after a few seconds, we arrived at the front of the door with the words 'Director's office' written on it.
"Please wait inside the room, I will go get the kid first."
Akaen walked away from us and I went inside the room. I ordered Sashi to keep watch on the outside.
The director's office looked pretty normal, there is a bookshelf, the director's desk, a coffee table, two sofas facing each other. A windom that lets you see the front yard where you can watch the children playing.
After waiting for a few minutes, I heard a knock on the door and it opened immediately, two persons entered. One is Akaen and the other one is the black fox that I met the other day.
"Oh? it really is Mister prince!" said the black fox.
"Hello" I replied to her while smiling.
"umm... do you want me to leave both of you some time alone?" asked Akaen.
"No need, you can just stay if you want."
Akaen decided to stay inside and watched the both of us from the director's seat.
"M-Mister, d-does this mean, you'll be accepting me as your a-apprentice?"
"Not yet, before I accept you, you will need to pass a test."
"P-Please tell me what the test is! I will complete successfully, no matter what!"
"Calm down, don't be too rash. You can think about it a little longer if you hear my test."
I took out the box containing the daggers that I bought earlier and placed it on the table.
"For the test, you will have to come with me to Jahal kingdom, your test is to capture the puppet king of that kingdom in under 10 minutes."
""EEHHH!?""
Both Akaen and the Black fox were shocked from my statement.
"umm-"
"PLEASE WAIT A SECOND! Even if you're the prince. I cannot allow this kind of thing! Even if this little girl is one of the famous assassins' tribe, you can't just send her right into a lion's den for her first test! This is too outrageous. Please think this through!"
I ignored akaen's words and just stared at the shocked and baffled child, waiting for her answer.
"I-I accept! I will finish this test and bring you satisfying results! If this is what it would take for you to accept me as your apprentice!"
"Like I said! Your highness, please think this thr-"
Before Akaen could finish her words, I used a little of my inner force to paralyze her body, so that she could no longer interfere with us.
I opened the box and gave the two daggers to the Black fox. I explained to her how the weapons worked so that she would be able to use it efficiently.
"Listen, you are only allowed to wound the king using the blue blade. You got that?" I reminded her, so that she won't accidentaly kill the king.
"Yes!"
"By the way, what's your name?"
"M-My name is Nathia, n-nice to meet you, your highness, Lucas-sama."
"Same here, I look forward to working with you." I said to her with a smile on my face.
"Yes! Thank you for this chance, Lucas-sama!"
"We're leaving for Jahal in 3 hours, prepare yourself."
"Yes!"
Right after that she ran out of the room with determination on her face. Akaen, who just got released from my paralyzation attempted to run after Nathia, but before she could pass by me, I called out to her.
"I would like to know what the Supreme Goddess of life and death is doing in an orphanage. Are you perhaps doing this as your part-time job?" I asked.
Akaen- no, Yumi, who was about to chase after the girl stopped on her tracks and showed a smile on her face. She sat down at the seat opposite of me and her form started to return to her original appearance.
"Was there a flaw in my disguise? No one should've been able to see through it." she said.
"No matter how much you disguise youself on the outside, your presence still remains the same. So? may I ask what you are doing here? by the way, your acting earlier was pretty good."
"Hahaha, thanks for the compliment. As for why I'm here, it's customary for the Gods to send someone for a period of time to protect and monitor an otherworlder when they're sent here."
"Don't you have lower ranking gods for that? Why send a supreme one?" I asked
"Yes, we usually send lower ranking gods for matters such as this, but you're different. You're a king with powers beyond reason. Don't you think a supreme god is a reasonable choice?"
"I see.."
"Then? what do you plan on doing now?"
"Just gonna take out some trash so that I can laze around properly."
"For you to say that kind of thing to a 3 nation alliance with a Demon lord at its helm, you really are something hahahaha!"
"Thanks for the praise... anyways, aren't you gonna stop me from putting Nathia in danger?"
"Nah, if it's you, no matter the distance, you can dash to nathia-chan's side in almost an instant if needed. There's no need to be worried....and..."
"and?"
"I would like to apologize, I accidentally looked over your records when you were still at earth."
"Don't worry about it, I told you already didn't I? I'm not hiding it."
"I already knew... why you keep showing fake smiles to Nathia earlier." said yumi as the atmosphere in the room suddenly turned gloomy.
"So you also read that?" I said with a slightly forlorn smile.
"Yeah... I'm...sorry."
...
"Please! Lucas-sama! Please spare our daughter! she's our only child!! I beg of you, please spare our only daughter! I can't bear to lose my daughter as a mother!"
"Lucas-sama, I'm begging you, please take the life of this worthless father instead! Please take my life in exchange for my daughter! She's just 15! She didn't know what she was getting herself into! Please!"
The cries of two people were heard throughout the entire huge manor in the middle of the night. Their cries of woe and despair rang out as they begged for the life of their daughter.
"Your daughter is already at the age where she can understand what is good and bad, she was given two obvious choices by that corrupted faction. She is a well known genius throughout the entire city, but because of her greed, she chose the path where more than 80 innocent people would obviously be sacrificed. Just for the sake of popularity. Are you telling me to spare someone like that?"
"P-P-PLEASE! take our lives instead! please give her a chance to correct her wrong doings! As her parents, we're both begging you with all our hearts... Please let our daughter live!"
The girl who is kneeling while being held down by one of my subordinates started to talk.
"M-Mom, dad...sobs* I-I'm sorry.. I've been blinded by material things! I really am sorry! Y-You don't need to s-sacrifice yourselves for me, I-I d-deserved all of this. I k-k-killed all those innocent people! P-Please, Lucas-sama, let my parents live. E-End me now!"
"Don't worry, I don't take the lives of innocent people." I replied to her in an intonationless voice.
"I'm disappointed in you, you were one of my most talented apprentice, you're only two steps away from entering the ranks of Yggdrasil. Yet, you wasted your chance for the sake of a hollow popularity." I said to the crying girl.
"Are the both of you gonna stay here? You are free to go if you want." I asked the parents of the girl.
They both just continued crying there, they showed no signs of going out of the room so I proceeded with my work.
"Since both of you don't plan on going out... Then bear witness to the death of your own child." My voice and aura turned the temperature in the room colder than ever.
I pointed my sword at the neck of the girl with one hand.
"Farewell....Nathia."
With a vertical slash coming from above, her head dropped to the ground.
""NOOOOOO!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!""
The parents shouted in gried as they ran to hug the lifeless corpse of their daughter.
My subordinates and I left the room. They immediately dispersed back into the shadows, leaving only Tanya who is behind me.
I stopped after a few minutes of walking in front of the huge manor and I felt a hug coming from behind and I heard Tanya's voice.
"If the pain is too much, you can rely on me... even if it's for just a bit..." she said as she quietly let go of me and went back into the shadows.
After a while I took out my phone and dialed a number.
"How are things going there in texas?" I asked.
"We're still keeping a close eye on the prisoners, your majesty. In the past 8 hours, there are an additional 167 children added to the underground prison. The current total count of childrens being held in prison is now 1,337. What action shall we take, your majesty?" said the voice from the other line.
"Rescue all of them... I... won't allow a single one of them getting hurt, you got that?"
"YES!"
"If I ever heard that a single child got hurt while they're in your squad's hands... There will be hell to pay." The moment I said that, the voice on the other line felt a heavy pressure on him, cold chills ran down his spine.
"U-Understood. I will give you your majesty, a satisfactory result." the call ended after that.
I looked up at the skies and said to myself quietly.
"A thousand for one."
...
"Even with the fox characteristics... She really looks like a younger version of her." I said as I looked at the door where Nathia went through.
"Yumi-san, did you..." I tried to ask yumi but she cut me off.
"I don't reincarnate people from earth. I can, but I chose not to. A soul would need a strong will to change and live again in order for destiny to give them a chance at reincarnation. As for if she really is the Nathia from that country called England..."
"No need to tell me that, I think... I already know the answer."
"Is that so? then goodluck with your work."
"Thanks... I'll be going then." I said as I walked out of the room.
"A Thousand for one huh... for every single child you kill, you will save a thousand.... No human has ever pulled that off." said yumi to herself quietly as she wore her disguise again.

Stranger than Fiction (Draft Edition)
Rewrite -> https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/55140/stranger-than-fiction 150k words of rewritten and new content, updating 3 times a day. Faith is like ice-cream. It comes in all flavors. Greek, Norse, Sumerian, Christian— just name it and it's there. Adventures, on the other hand, are like credit cards. The first taste is free, but the price only goes up from there. Family heirlooms, now those are true evil. You get burdened with them for sentimental reasons even if they’re icky. For Lukas Aguilar, it was a pendant. A small, weird metal nib with absolutely no vampiric tendencies. All he wanted was to finish the job at hand, and get on that book he had been postponing for a while now. Instead he got served with an apocalypse for breakfast, a cave full of eldritch monsters for the company and the whims of a ruined goddess for his To-Do list. Really, a simple NO from the universe would have sufficed. Acknowledgments Editor-in-Chief: Solo Starfish Artwork: Exodus
8 125Ira’s Faithful
[On Hiatus due to health reasons] Synopsis: Fate has plans for everyone. There are many paths one can walk and many nodes one can unlock. Yet all mortal souls only start with one node. This has been the case for many years and while there are some records of people with more than one first node, these are as rare as wings on snails, roses made of air, or ropes made of dragon-hair. Elise Anker has two first nodes. She doesn't know why and the only one that could answer is an angry voice in her head. She hears it rarely and the voice is as helpful as a sword is effective against a Leviathan. She strives to become a mage, a knight or maybe something else entirely. The future is uncertain and unless she finds out what her nodes mean, she will never know what she wants to become. But her nodes won't unlock and the angry voice tells her that she needs to find a worthy foe to kill. Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I won’t say this is a fiction, In fact it’s just things I suppose I need to put out there! Some things might be synonymous to a story, mainly my story. Interesting tidbits I’ve wrote down while high, sad or otherwise distracted in life. Hopefully it’s received well! This is for those who believe they are alone, you aren’t.
