《A king's reincarnation》Chapter 11: My duty

After a few more minutes of walking, we have arrived in front of a royal carriage pulled by two white horses.
"Please enter inside, Lucas-sama." Said the butler as he opened the door and motioned for me to sit inside.
Following his request, I went inside. I thought I would be the only one inside, but I didn't expect another person to be also sitting inside.
The moment our eyes met, we stared at each other for about 6 seconds until we finally came back to our senses. seemingly embarassed from what just happened, the girl inside averted her gaze quickly and looked outside the window. Her face flushed red as she started squirming from her seat.
Amused at such a sight, I sat at the opposite of her seat. The butler, Heize, followed suit and also sat beside the girl in a poised and refined manner.
"Nice to meet you, My name is Lucas White...And you are?"
Looking flustered as if she was shocked by my sudden greetings, she slowly faced me, her face still tinged with redness.
"ummm, N-Nice to m-meet you, my name is Airi Sei Elune, the Second Princess and also, your L-L-L-Little sister. You are the Second prince, so you're my older brother, right?" She replied to me while stuttering. How should I say this, the way she looks when she's embarassed looks so calming cute that it makes me want to tease her. I guess this is also one of the perks of having my emotions releases from slumber.
"Older brother huh?... Well, I guess you could call it that, considering the situation we're in." I replied a matter-of-factly.
As I was observing her, I felt something unusual but familiar within her. It's too familiar for me who have also encountered it countless times already. Yes, 'Loneliness'.
I decided to talk to her about it later, as right now, she's trying to hide it to avoid an awkward atmosphere between us on our first meeting, and as the longer she keeps this thing to herself, the deeper the damage it will cause to her in the future.
"Hey...what does the Elune kingdom look like?" I asked her as I crossed my arms and put my left leg over my right leg.
"u-ummm, the place is large, beautiful, and well maintained. It has lots of sceneries that attracts tourists from other countries. Elune doesn't have that much outstanding qualities compared to other countries, but we pride ourselves in the fact that we are one of the most peaceful nations in the entirety of Greis." She explained to me in a rather clear manner.

From the simple overview she gave me, it looks like this country has a nice community and atmosphere. Although it's always the best to experience more about something like this firsthand.
"...Although even if we're recognized as one of greis' most peaceful nations. Right now, we're currently at war with the Jahal kingdom." She added with a sad tone of voice. It was apparent that she's someone who liked peace. Even if your nation is recognized as one of the most peaceful, a nation is a nation, in the end, it still can't escape from the clutches of war.
"O-Ojousama, you didn't need to trouble Lucas-sama with such sad matters, we will get through this, so both of you can rest easy." Comforted Heize, from his tone and actions, one could see that he truly cares for the princess and has served her for a long time.
Even I, whom he only met minutes ago, has been shown a certain amount of kindness and respect from him. This is mostly a sign that the royal family he serves are great people.
"Ah, don't worry about it Heize-dono. I have seen my fair share of wars back at where I came from." I replied to him to dispel his worries. I really did witness a lot of wars back on earth firsthand, to be honest I was participating in all of them, and 95% of them... Well let's just say that all of those wars started because of me.
Now that I think about it, in my entire life, I have never killed an innocent human at all, all of them are impure bastards that does the earth no good. I've thoroughly researched their backgrounds well, too careful to the point that almost the only detail left out is how many times did they breathe in their entire life.
"I-Is that so, but still-"
Right before he finishes his words, I cut his sentence off and started speaking.
"According to you, I'm the second prince, am I right?" I asked him.
"Eh? Y-Yes."
"Then as a member of the Royal family of Elune, it is my duty to watch over and support my fellow countrymen in times of needs. If I accept the title of Prince, I want to be someone who can stand beside my people in dire times. I don't want to be someone who just sits inside his room, acting like a spoiled brat. The Royal family is the people's leader and faith. And as someone who is about to take that role, I want to at least be aware of the situation happening. That is my duty" I said to him in a calm manner.

As if surprised by my speech, Heize who is still thinking about convincing me to turn a blind eye to it. Stopped and looked at me in awe.
"I apologize for my behavior earlier, the words you just said has bought me back to my senses, and for that. Thank you." He apologized to me and at the same time, thanked me.
I was walking along the paths of Hillian kingdom, Along with the knights given to me by Airi-ojousama.
I was tasked with locating the second prince who seems to be among the crowds here at Hillian. Normally, for an average person, finding someone in this sea of crowds will be difficult.
But since I can use a special kind of search magic, it became as easy as a walk in a park. I just applied the person's distinctive features on the search and I already found him. Silver white hair with crimson red eyes, the person known as the "Failed heir" has these rather odd features.
As the magic dispersed from me, I detected the person I was looking for. Only a few minutes walk away, we started to move forward to the location. It looks like he was only moving within that area so it might be easier for us to find him.
After a few more minutes of walking we finally arrived at the area pin pointed by my search magic. I looked around the area for a bit until my eyes fell on a bench beside the fountain. No, to be precise, my eyes fell on the man with Silver white hair. However, there is one thing that I didn't expect to witness.
(W-What is this...)
I thought to myself.
Right now, that person sitting with his eyes closed is exuding a majestic and intense aura, an aura befitting those of a king. Just the mere presence of him pressures me greatly to the point where I began sweating profusely.
Failed heir? No aptitude for being a rulee? To hell with that title. I don't mean to be rude, but right now, the person I'm seeing has a Kingly aura far superior than any of the kings I've ever met, Including the king of Elune. An aura so intense, that it makes me want to kneel in front of him.
(J-Just what kind of person is this)
While suppresing the fear and awe inside me, I saw that the knights beside me were also shaking. The citizens around us can't feel it since they're just normal people, to them, that person is just like a normal good looking human, but for knights and attendants like us. What we're seeing as far deeper than that.
Slowly composing and calming down ourselves. We began walking towards him. And I finally stopped 2 meters in front of him. I was about to talk when suddenly, he opened his closed eyes.
The moment his crimson red eyes opened, the pressure that we're currently feeling suddenly increased tenfold. Fortunately, we were fast enough to cast body enhancement magic on ourselves which prevented us from kneeling.
(Just what is this fearsome human.) I repeatedly asked myself.
I am just a butler but I have seen many leaders and kings. But this is the first time I ever felt like this. A pressure so strong, as if I'm currently facing a God.
With the help of the Body enhancement magic, I was able to calm my body, but my mental state is still in a little disarray. After a few seconds, I managed to calm myself down and started speaking in a refined manner and tone of voice.
"Master, may I have the honor of hearing your name?"
I asked, to which he replied.
After a few words, I asked him to follow me to the carriage. As he stood up, I noticed that he was looking at one of the soldiers on the left side who has shaking legs. The pressure that he was exuding was slowly dissipating, it was as if he was being considerate to us. And after that, he began to talk with the soldiers in a friendly manner. Not applying any presure, but just talking normally like an ordinary person.
However, although he is only talking casually, one can't still hide the fact that right now, he's one of the most wonderful and majestic beings one could ever meet.

Bitter
The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one. Schedule: Story has been completed. Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB. Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon. Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind. This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting. Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun. Of course, then there's the orcs and elves. This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.

A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
