《The DT Journals》Alice's Missionary Tales 1

"So, how about I show you about this annoying, and when I say annoying, I mean really, fucking annoying! Target?" Alice Pulled up her hud, going to her memories that were recorded. "I gotta say, Kenneth has some really good tech, Dave if I recall, being able to go into people's minds and memories is really wild. Lee and Sam only looked at her confused, after all, they didn't know the progress that had been made on Dave.
April 12th, Year Unknown
Alice had a sniper posted up as she laid on the edge of a mountain, looking down onto a mansion.
"Alice!" Her radio went off
(Note: Any dialogue and action that starts with CT(Current time) takes place outside the memory and is what the characters are saying)
"Yeah Kai?" She pressed on the button for the radio, taking her hand off the handle.
"We've got an issue, the guy has some secret casino here, we'll be drawing a lot of attention"
"Hold on" She pressed on the scope of her sniper, activating an x-ray-thermal sensing-like scope, allowing her to see through walls. She scanned around and saw it, over a hundred people underground with her target marked in orange, the guy was in between four different people, even if she did have something that could pierce through mountain rocks that didn't have the sound of an explosion, she'd be drawing attention to herself after shooting him.
"I can try and bring him upstairs, from what I see there isn't any food or drinks down here, maybe we can do it that way."
"Try" She took her hand off the radio and went back to holding the grip, through the scope she could see Kai(marked with a green hue) walking over to their target. It seemed to take a while but soon they were both moving. They walked up some stairs and made it back into the normal part of the mansion. They continued seemingly going to a dead-end, the target raised his hand and started pressing buttons. Alice grabbed her radio again "What happened to food and drinks?"
"I had to change it, I guess there were food and drinks down there, and I just didn't see it. So instead I asked to invest in his business" Alice got off her radio. She tried to get an angle and shoot the target, but there was no luck, not without breaking anything or making noise. Alice loaded in a special round "just in case" she mumbled to herself as she loaded the round.

CT(Lee): Hold on, what does it mean special round?
CT(Alice): You'll see Lee, just give it a moment
Kai and the target continued to talk about something Alice couldn't hear, most likely Kai was spewing lies. In the middle of their chat however, Alice noticed the target raising up something, she could see it with her thermal vision, it was a button, so she decided, since it was a secluded area and Kai could die, she fired the special round, firing a laser-like bullet which pierced through the walls, but before it could hit, the target raised a blunt mace up and it collided with the laser, the target immediately vanished. Alice's scope went entirely orange, she lowered her sniper and saw the target standing on the barrel of the gun, wearing a gas mask and a blue glow in their eye.
CT: Both Lee and Sam jolted as they saw the guy, he looked familiar, and they both knew who the target was.
The masked man kicked Alice in the face, causing her to jolt back and part from her sniper.
"Kai!" She pressed her hand against her radio as the target charged her, around the target's arm was a serrated aura, like they had a see-through blade arm. Alice summoned a dagger and collided with the target, clashing against them, Alice could feel an immense heat coming from their hand.
"Time of judgment draws near, as the sight of understanding cause them to know real despair" The masked man began to speak.
"Yeah, cause I understand anything you're saying" Alice resummoned her sniper in her free hand, firing at the target's leg, it grazed them, but the recoil from firing with one hand caused her to get disorientated, as she was falling back she stuck her leg into the dirt and rebalanced, grabbing onto her dagger with a tighter grip. The man only kicked their mace, twirling it, yet when it hit the ground it turned into a sword. "Seems kinda pointless considering that arm you've got" Alice smiled as she crouched down, pulling the charging handle on her once again resummoned sniper, as she took a shot however the man cut, not the bullet, he cut the air and a line appeared, soon turning into a full circle. A monster on all fours came through, its skeletal system could be seen yet the monster wasn't transparent...and even then the skeleton didn't match up, it was clear the bones weren't theirs. Alice fired a round at the monster, and it just took it head-on, the back of the monster split open, after cracks could be heard a tube appeared from its back and let out an ear-piercing scream. Alice held her ears in pain, the target twirled their sword and it turned into a cane, yet it seemed there was something in the cane as the hilt had a line it in, indicating it could open.

"Your kind will be forced to pay, I hope you'll understand someday" He brought the cane to the middle of him and slammed it onto the floor, a wind began picking up, forcing Alice to dig her sniper into the floor to not be blown away. A warping noise sounded behind Alice.
"What the fuck is that!?" Kai questioned as he too tried to keep his balance.
"Do not worry if you consider yourself damned, after all, it's part of our plan"
"This guy always speak in rhyme?" Kai reached into his suit and whipped out a pistol, firing a shot at the target, only for a spike to pierce the bullet mid-air, the spike came from the monster, coming from its 'skin'. The monster's spike retracted into itself as it began rushing both Alice and Kai. Kai shot himself in the leg, moving his fingers to control and suck the blood out of it, he slammed his hand into the ground as the blood followed, causing a ripple to flow. The masked man was practically unaffected, continuing to hold onto his cane.
"For those whose teeth chatter, be prepared, for you are on their plater" The Man stabbed his arm and curled his blood into a floating ball. Alice tried throwing her dagger while summoning a fireball behind him, yet the monster jumped into the air, summoning an axe using its 'skin' again, and cutting itself in half, causing the corpses to block both.
"Just die already!" Kai slashed a tree beside him, cutting it, he raised his hand, causing the tree to float, Kai threw the tree at the man.
"The other side calls for all, be prepared, it's time for the last curtain to fall." The man crushed the blood ball as one last shockwave launched both Kai and Alice into a tree. A roar screamed throughout the mountain top as Alice regained her barrings and looked back at the man, an unbelievably tall monster stood where the man once did, spikes penetrating from its back, it knelt on the floor with both of its fists on the ground.
"Let's get out of here!" Kai grabbed Alice's right arm and started sprinting with her.
"Raymond! We need a portal right about now!" Alice held onto her radio, screaming into it, trying to yell over the constant roar the beast let out. Yet there was no response.
"Fuck this, we'll make our own!" Kai stopped running, sliding across the dirt from his momentum, he took out his sword and slashed into the air, opening a portal. Kai leapt through the portal as Alice took one look back, she saw the creature sprinting towards her at high speeds. She jumped into the portal, falling onto her back, the portal closed quickly after.
Memory End
"That's where it ends?" Lee sat, curiously looking at the memory.
"No, but I just wanted to show you the target, why, is there something else you wanted to see?" Alice faded away her hud as she leaned back against the ship.
"No, it's fine" Lee sat up, crossing his legs.
"Alright, how about you sis?" Alice looked at Sam.
"huh? oh, I'm fine, just, worried since he didn't die"
"I guess that's understandable" The ship rocked as Alice finished her sentence "Well, I guess it's go time, get ready you two."
"Roger!" The two cheered

The Gambit
The kingdoms have rarely experienced peace, with kings and rulers warring against each other on any percieved slight. With explorers riding the waves to find new lands and merchants eager to set up trade routes while profiting as much as possible. Would the status quo still hold up? The veil is already weakining as more magic and horrors seep through the gap. How would the world deal with the sudden increase in the limited resource of magic? With the times changing, barren lands become trade hubs and the power shifts. The system holding it all together, is in a fragile balance, would a single death break the balance and cause the most devastating war the people have experienced. The direction of the story : The story will not contain any main protagonist, rather multiple protagonists and antagonists with the protagonists having bad some character traits and the antagonists some good ones. I plan to make a story of flawed humans, so if you are looking for OP MCs you would not enjoy it. But I still hope you give it a try. This is my first time writing and I am doing it to get better, so any suggestion or criticism is welcome. I am a university student, so do not expect a robust upload schedule, I'll try to put out 2 chapters a week, but there might be some delays. I apologize for it in advance. P.s. English is not my native language, so there might be some errors, though I tried to mitigate them as much as possible.

Flashback: Siren Song
The year is 1969. Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam. With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves. Just like the mysterious music drifting through the jungle toward Yancy's squad, Siren Song will get under your skin and sink its hooks into your mind. —eden Hudson, Author of Halo Bound (the Redneck Apocalypse series) *** Hey everyone, this is James Hunter. This story isn't a full length novel--its a novella length work (25K words), and is part of my Yancy Lazarus series.
