《Bus driver vs Dungeons [Progression Litrpg]》Chapter 2. Unexpected raids

Joe sat in the driver's seat of his own bus. It felt comfortable.
The man decided to use all his 300 experiences. He said. “Menu.”
Name: [Joe Black]
Class: [Bus driver]
Affinity: Earth [1]
*Experience: [300]
Equipment: [Gray driver gloves (+0.1 to a driving skill)]
Skills:
[Driving: 2.1 (0.1)]
Active quests: [None]
Ownership of bus: [Yes]
Bus model: [UCA X-122]
Bus status: [Good condition]
Bus garrison: [Active [0/5]]
Bus upgrades: [Active]
Bus evolution: [Battle bus: 500,000] [Medical bus: 400,000] [Builder bus: 400,000] [Scientific bus: 300,000] [Ranger bus: 300,000] [Scavenge bus: 300,000]
*In exchange for experience you can buy upgrades for the bus or level up your affinity and skills
Joe studied his stats with great interest.
A next level of Earth affinity – level [2] – cost 500 experience. Joe didn't have the required sum.
At home Joe experimented with the Earth affinity. The level [1] of this affinity had given Joe knowledge about some simple methods of Earth's control. Frankly, nothing impressive to mention.
A driver skill [3] required 1000 experience. The man couldn't afford this price as well.
It turned out that [Good condition] in [Bus status] meant that the bus had many minor issues. Joe's grandpa cared about Bertha, but he wasn't a professional mechanic. The man spent 180 experience to repair his bus to [Excellent condition].
Joe read with a great interest a description of activated [Bus garrison]. It turned out that he – as the bus owner - could hire some monsters as his personal troop. Right now he could hire only goblins: [goblin archer] or [goblin fighter]. Each cost 100 experience.
Joe was excited. Perhaps, [Bus driver] class isn't as bad as I thought?
[Bus upgrades] offered numerous upgrades to the bus, but the cheapest one cost 2800 experience, and it was a modern bus air conditioning system. For example, a simple battering ram cost 6600 experience.
An activated [Bus evolution] looked very promising and interesting, but each evolution cost a lot of experience. Joe wasn't sure what he would choose in the future. But I will have a lot of time to figure that out.
Joe bid farewell to his grandpa and drove his bus home. Bertha was an old but fine vehicle.
On the way home the man realized that his city - Evergreen City - had changed forever. It will never be like before.
On the streets he could see groups of people who wore fantasy clothes and held cold weapons in their arms: swords, daggers, spears, and bows.
It seems that they have already done their beginner quest, The man concluded.

Joe also wore a pair of gray gloves. They were leather and felt comfortable.
At home the man ate and then read some forums. People continued being crazy there.

In a week
Joe drove Bertha on his usual route. It turned out that [Bus driver] could grind experience... by carrying people. Joe stopped at the bus stop, opened doors, waited for some people to come in, and resumed a movement on the familiar route.
Every door had a sign “No fare”. Joe didn't want to have problems with the law, because he had quit his job. Officially he wasn't a bus driver anymore - and he hadn't any right to take a fare - thus he worked for free. Besides, many bus drivers quit their work as well, and currently the city lacked these specialists.
A lot of people – especially of elder age – continued to live as if nothing had happened. For example, they continued to go to work as before. Therefore, Joe had no problems with his daily grind.
And what has changed in my life? He thought ironically. A whole week I do the same work that I did in the past.
The bus halted and opened its doors.
[Congratulations! You have earned 3 experience]
At least I'm earning experience, Joe thought.
A whole week Joe worked painstakingly to earn enough experience to buy Earth affinity [2]. The man realized that his knowledge in Earth's control had expanded; he could do more complicated control.
A group of “players” entered the bus. The players were people who began to live according to the system's rules. It was quite easy to notice a player in the crowd. He/she -as a rule - wore the system's clothes and items.
Currently the city was in turmoil. The players (mostly the young people) and the non-players (mostly the elder people) were two sides of this conflict.
Definitely Joe was a player, but almost nothing could give him away. He wore ordinary clothes except a pair of driver gloves. Thus, many would assume that he was a non-player.
The group of players – three men and two women - chatted lively. A beautiful girl in a gray attire – perhaps, a healer? - had even exclaimed happily. “Grinding! Grinding! Grinding! Let's do the grinding!”
“Ah, I can't wait when those dungeons will open!” a man in chain mail said.
As well, he had a long bundle in his arm.
There should be a sword inside. He is likely a knight or warrior.
As Joe heard, from the first day the police began to arrest people who carried cold weapons openly. They didn't pay any attention to any excuses. Besides, the police officers got their own unique classes. Thanks to that, almost no one left his/her job.

“Indeed! I can't wait to level up all my stats!” another girl with wooden stuff chirped.
She wore a giant red bow on her head.
A magician?
“It must happen today!” the other two young men said in unison and laughed.
Joe noticed that those men wore combat gloves of gray color; there was some metal on the knuckles.
They look like fighters.
Unexpectedly the bus driver - as well as the rest of the people on Earth – got a message.
[Global message! Some gods are interested in your world. Now each priest or priestess can choose his/her patron deity and establish a temple.]
The players cheered while other passengers – especially the older ones – frowned.
Joe saw clearly that the older people disliked what was coming off. He could share their worry. He also didn't know what this system would bring to the world.
All these messages must disturb the elders a lot.
The system sent another message.
[Global message! Congratulations! Dungeons have been integrated and activated in your world. Hurry up to explore them!]
This time the players yelled in excitement, but the other passengers looked disturbed. Some elders even took out their phones to phone likely their relatives.
It has begun.
Joe was agitated.
I believe I need to find a dungeon, He thought. Yes, it's a risk, but it's also a chance to level up my stats.
The bus driver had realized that the old rules of the old world didn't work anymore. Besides, he was curious; as well, Joe was tired of monotonous driving. The last week looked like the previous couple of years. Joe had never wanted to be a bus driver for the rest of his life.
That's my only chance.
Joe halted his bus at the next bus stop and asked all passengers to leave his bus. At first a few complained, but all passengers obeyed. They didn't pay any fare.
The beautiful girl – she was from the group of players - came up to Joe. She looked excited. “Sir, can you give us a lift? Pretty please?”
Joe could see that her friends didn't leave the bus yet. The bus driver stared at her. I have my own business, girl. Just leave my bus!
“Sir, it's very important. Brother Fang got a call from his friend who told him that he had found a dungeon! Now we need to get there as quickly as possible to be the first who will explore that dungeon!” the girl said to Joe emotionally. “If we are the first, we should get a lot of experience and loot! If you want, we will share with you some of our loot, sir! Just drive us there, please!”
Do they know where a dungeon is?!
“Okay. I will give you a lift. Tell me where I should drive you,” Joe nodded.
He was excited.
“Ah, thank you, sir!”
The happy party members sat back on their seats.
[Message to Evergreen City! A part of dungeon cores – whose dungeons had been established in Evergreen City - are launching raids on Evergreen City. Repel them all!]
Huh?! Are they launching raids on us?! So fast?! Wait, dungeons can do that?! As I remember in games they couldn't.
Unexpectedly Joe saw a bunch of green short creatures – about one hundred - materialized ahead on the road, close to the bus stop. These creatures looked exactly like the goblins from computer games.
The supposed goblins were armed with daggers, and they looked angry.
Joe was stupefied. The man didn't know what he should do.
All of a sudden the largest goblin – who held a strange flag in one of his arms – screamed aloud “Kill and loot!” and pointed at the bus stop.
The green creatures answered in unison “Kill and loot! Kill and loot!”, then they- yelling - ran towards the bus stop where a small number of people stood. The people screamed in fear and began to run away. A majority of those men and women rushed inside the Joe's bus in a hope to find protection there.
When the first goblins were beside the bus, Joe closed the doors. The angry goblins bumped against the doors and tried to stab them with their daggers to no avail.
Meanwhile, Joe saw as the green creatures killed a few humans with the help of their knives. The monsters chuckled. They looked happy.
“Run them over!” Someone yelled hysterically. “Run them over, driver!”
This yell helped Joe to return to reality. The bus driver shook his head and pressed the gas pedal down. The bus moved forward. Bertha wasn't a young girl anymore, therefore she accelerated slowly.
They are not humans. This is like a computer game! Yes, I'm in a computer game! Joe thought when Bertha ran over the first goblin.
The system reacted instantly.
[Congratulations! You have earned 5 experiences!]

At The Precipice
Defenseless. Scared. Alone. That describes the life of Brock Carter as of late. Following his ‘death’ at the hands of a vicious magpie, Brock is rescued by the machinations of the newly instated, all-powerful System and thrust knee-deep into a brutal world catered only to the strong. Fluctuating between two states of being and trapped within a city ravaged by time, he is told to either seek out the mysterious ‘Source’, or die trying. He just hopes he can do it without scuffing his expensive suit in the process. ***** Honestly, I've just always wanted to write a story. I had a crack at it a few years back, but the entire thing fell apart before it even began. At The Precipice was originally written as a way for me to destress and play with System elements and characters, but eventually I decided that if I was gonna write, why not post it too? Writing's just a hobby of mine, so don't expect this to be at published novel level, I guess, or even anything of relative polish. Updates every Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri Average chapter length is 2000 - 3000 words ***** What to expect: - A semi-comedic/light tone, mixed in with a gritty world and brutal survival (not ever grimdark though) - An MC that thinks about what he's going to do and why he'll do it, even if his internal logic is lacking. Is a rather rational person, not often influenced by his emotions, but can be in extreme situations. - A plot heavily focused upon the MC, but one that will branch off to envelope the other characters in the world at times. Often, it's just other people's perspectives of him. - A story of power growth. While the MC is certainly going to be powerful, even over 100 chapters in from what I've written, he still isn't the strongest being on Earth, let alone the entire Multiverse. - Lots of gore, vivid fight descriptions, and often times deaths of people, some even somewhat important to the story ***** Things this story will never have: - Harems - An edgy, villainous MC - An MC that does jackshit about things for 'plot reasons'

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
