A Note
Science and magic are only different tools we use to control the world around us, one to turn the levers that we know, the other, to channel the powers that we do not yet fully understand. Do not dismiss what you do not understand, and perhaps you will be the one to plumb its mysteries.

Document Three
Had caller today. Was very disturbed by screaming, and, think, by empty house. No servants except steward to help splint broken leg. Had no pain killer. Apologized, but not very sorry. Tired. Interrupted sleep.
Bad dreams lately. Screaming, but not really a dream. See bad faces when I sleep, hear bad words, in screaming. Sometimes think am screaming too until wake up. Such agony. Three weeks no response. Went down to talk, again, fruitless. Found steward outside door last night. Very loud there. Asked if wanted to go inside. Very tired of suspicion, of sneaking. Cannot sleep except on trips to store, and only for few minutes fear of steward making investigation. Get over with.
Horror. To be expected. Showed what have been doing. Ropes. Chains. Asked why screaming, could not answer. Reflex suppose. Asked what would do, now knows. Said think on it. Watched him, could not sleep anyways. Bad dreams even while awake now. Ground moves, and faces in trees and shadows. Insane. Not right. Saw steward leaving in night. Now have in ice box. Thought to bury him, but had no shovel, and too much work to find. Keep cold instead. Frogs come back from frozen often, may be reason first subject unresponsive now. Never cold. May try on steward, if get the chance. Should try, compare results. Must try. Must also think up story when police come, if come. If family come. Family come on every first wednesday? Cannot remember. Will not matter now. Should give body to Sister, but must have for comparison.

Nightmare.
Must come up with story instead. Only body anyways. What matter, if in ground or in icebox? If with me, or with them. Dust to dust is dust. Let sweep if wants more. But must sleep. Must sleep or story will be incomprehensible. Must sleep or won’t be able to explain screaming, even if am doctor and can say is patient. Will not believe without steward. Will want to investigate and then all over. Must stuff rag in subject’s mouth so that can sleep. Would choke? Can? Not sure, but must sleep. Must sleep. Maybe will try some other night.
