《The Dark Star Emperors》Chapter 83: Thought

Yune came back home to seeing Jack just lying on the couch reading one of Mary's manga.
"Hey, Yune. You're back," Jack said as she got herself up.
Yune noticed that Mary wasn't there and asked, "Where's Mary?"
As soon as she finished answering that question, Mary came up from behind holding a box of pizza.
"Hi. Didn't know if you were gonna come back, so I went ahead and brought some food. I heard pizza is pretty good," Mary said.
Yune didn't realize that Mary had been following her, and she still didn't think any different. She was preoccupied with thoughts about what she should do.
Mary had no plans of telling Jack what she saw. Instead, she told later Jack not to worry about it. She had other plans that she didn't want interrupted.
But now, she had to try out this food that she picked up. Mary had no idea how pizza tasted like, but heard it was pretty good from the other students' descriptions. It was just a regular cheese pizza.
The three sat down and each took a slice.
Jack went right into it even though it was still hot.
Mary looked at it strangely and was analyzing it not knowing what it was.
Yune saw Mary do this and said without any emotion, "Don't play with your food."
Mary had never had this kind of food before, but after seeing how Jack ate it, she decided to try it. Then again, Mary thought, since Jack couldn't feel anything, maybe she couldn't taste anything, either. Then, she did take a small bite and her eyes lit up like a star. She felt like her mind flung up at the moon and back again. It was the most exhilarating thrill she's ever experienced. The oil seeped through her teeth and mouth. The delectable cheese that could fill the stomachs of a fully grown man. Then, she started to quickly chow down every bite. Her new favorite food. Cheese pizza.

Yune stared her food blankly. She stood up without taking a bite.
"I'm tired. I'm gonna go to bed," Yune said, "Put away the leftovers in the fridge."
Jack was about to open her mouth to ask what was wrong, but Mary tapped her and shook her head to not bother her. Mary knew that Yune regained her memories from watching her. Although, she didn't quite know what Yune experienced, she was sure that she needed time to sort through them.
Mary finished her slice of pizza quickly and then grabbed Yune's slice and began to eat that.
Yune sat on her bed and looked around. It was like living at her original home. But she couldn't see this place as home. Yune put the black coin that dropped from Schmetter and placed it on her small table next to her. Although, she barely knew Schmetter or the Light Guardian she was before, Yune felt like she owed her something for pushing Yune to find Eli.
She decided to sleep and go through her newfound memories slowly. To her, she experienced them all at once like a bolt of lightning. Now, she just needed time and a good rest.

Shades of the Moon
I'm rewriting this story! I have taken down Arc 2 and Arc 3 already to avoid spoiling my new novel. The only reason I'm keeping the first 10 chapters is nostalgia; the writing is awkward and the story is not plotted out properly, but it's here if anyone wants to compare it to the new one. If you'd like to read a more professionally written version of this story, I highly suggest checking out my Synergy. Synopsis version too-many-to-count: “I see,” Kiona said. “But . . . you’re changing once again, aren’t you?” The entity considered her question, lifting a clawed hand towards the night sky. They observed the back of their hand idly, watching the glowing orange veins pulse alongside their pitch-black exoskeleton. The wind picked up right then, and Kiona shivered—just as much from the cold as from the savage grin on the creature's face. “That’s right,” the entity said, clenching their hand slowly into a fist. They let out a quiet laugh, staring defiantly at the Moon as it rose from behind the clouds. “We are shades, yet not exactly. Not like the others. Here, in this world, we've become something more. We are the Shades of the Moon.” There was a heartbeat of silence, during which Kiona joined the entity in their skygazing. The light-green Moon loomed over the city, shining like the entity's eyes. It promised otherworldly knowledge and terrible secrets. It promised progress. It promised change. In that moment, Kiona couldn't have imagined anything more beautiful. “Shades of the Moon, huh?” she said, smiling a bit. It had a nice ring to it.
