《The Dark Star Emperors》Chapter 29: Mary's New Friends

After Mary got an ice pack from the nurse, she walked back to class with the ice firmly placed on her cheek.
She passed by two teenage girls. They had a bunch of jewelry and wore a lot of make-up. They weren't very tall, but big compared to Mary. Even though class had started a while ago, they seemed not to care.
"Hey, kid. That looks like it hurt. Want a smoke?" one of the teenagers asked.
"Not interested in any opium. Thank you," Mary replied while trying to ignore the pain of her cheek.
"That really does look like it hurt. I used to hide some of the beatings at home I got with a little bit of make-up. Couldn't even tell half the time," the other girl said.
Mary stopped in her tracks and became intrigued.
"Wait. You hid bruises you got from beatings?" Mary asked.
"Yeah. My dad used to beat me, but I learned how to-" the girl said, but Mary interrupted.
"I don't care about that. Can you show me how to hide this? I don't need people staring at me," Mary asked.
The girls laughed. "Why should we help you, little girl?"
Mary became slightly angry, but she remembered about the power that she recently gained.
She looked at the two girls and ordered, "Show me how to hide my bruise."
Mary's eyes turned black with purple irises for a second. And the girls were obedient.
"Alright. Let's go find a classroom. I have my make-up supplies in my bag," one of them said.
"Not a problem. Follow me," Mary said with a sly smile and black eyes.
She entered into a random classroom. It was full, but that didn't bother her.
The students and teacher froze for a second, and then Mary took a breath.

"Everybody get out of this room," Mary said and then she looked outside to notice that it was raining, "All of you go outside and jog or something."
Without any complaint, each student and even the teacher started to leave the classroom. However, the two girls were also about to leave.
"Not you two. You two stay," she ordered, "I got to be more specific with my orders."
Mary and the two girls entered the room.
"Close the door," Mary ordered and so they did.
"Alright. Now, let's not only hide the bruise, but let's make me more beautiful than ever. Make me more irresistible," Mary said while her eyes was pitch black with only the irises being purple.
And so, the two girls went to work doing a make over on Mary. By the time it was over, Mary's bruise didn't look at all like it was there. The girls also gave Mary purple eyeliner and lipstick. Her skin seemed to shin brighter than ever. They also decided to dye Mary's white hair. Now, there were streaks of blonde hair along with the white. Then, they did Mary's nails and colored them pink. The twin-tails that Mary had stayed as the two girls didn't know what to do with them.
When the girls took out a mirror and showed Mary, she had no idea whether it was beautiful or not.
"Hmm. Well, I guess the definition of beauty changes over time. Oh well," Mary said, "Now, girls, let's learn about the current times. You girls will teach me everything there is to know."
And so, instead of going to classes, Mary hung around with the two girls she had taken control of and learned all about the current world. Learned how to apply make-up herself. Learned all about the internet. Learned about the current lingo. Learned everything that she thought that she needed to know.

Shades of the Moon
I'm rewriting this story! I have taken down Arc 2 and Arc 3 already to avoid spoiling my new novel. The only reason I'm keeping the first 10 chapters is nostalgia; the writing is awkward and the story is not plotted out properly, but it's here if anyone wants to compare it to the new one. If you'd like to read a more professionally written version of this story, I highly suggest checking out my Synergy. Synopsis version too-many-to-count: “I see,” Kiona said. “But . . . you’re changing once again, aren’t you?” The entity considered her question, lifting a clawed hand towards the night sky. They observed the back of their hand idly, watching the glowing orange veins pulse alongside their pitch-black exoskeleton. The wind picked up right then, and Kiona shivered—just as much from the cold as from the savage grin on the creature's face. “That’s right,” the entity said, clenching their hand slowly into a fist. They let out a quiet laugh, staring defiantly at the Moon as it rose from behind the clouds. “We are shades, yet not exactly. Not like the others. Here, in this world, we've become something more. We are the Shades of the Moon.” There was a heartbeat of silence, during which Kiona joined the entity in their skygazing. The light-green Moon loomed over the city, shining like the entity's eyes. It promised otherworldly knowledge and terrible secrets. It promised progress. It promised change. In that moment, Kiona couldn't have imagined anything more beautiful. “Shades of the Moon, huh?” she said, smiling a bit. It had a nice ring to it.
