《The Dark Star Emperors》Chapter 7: Back to School

"School? Why do I have to go to school!?" Mary exclaimed.
The dark owl uttered a hoot and replied, "Because you're still children. And kids need to at least graduate high school."
"I've already -" Mary shouted, but was cut off by Yune.
"Hades is right. I'm still a high school senior."
Jack nodded and said, "Yeah. Alright. Well, I guess I would still be in ninth grade."
Mary was about to argue with Hades as she already completed school, albeit a very long time ago. Hades sensed her problem and knew about her situation already. The owl spoke.
"And Mary is just starting her seventh grade."
Mary dropped her jaw and shouted, "Hey! I may be small, but I'm certainly- "
"-a flowering middle schooler," Hades interrupted eying her. The owl was familiar with Mary's past and she herself had most of her memories intact, but she was not keen in revealing any of it.
Mary shut her mouth and looked away in defeat. "Yeah... That's right... I'm just starting middle school... I'm a middle school student. Yep. I'm a child."
Hades smiled in delight. "Well, I've already got you three in as new transfer students. So, off you go," Hades said as a gust of wind kicked up and threw the three girls out of the house.
The three yelled as they all smacked themselves on the nearby sidewalk. Each one of them was surprised by the owl. The three slowly got themselves up.
Three smartphones floated above them being carried by a balloon tied up with black feathers. There was a small note that said, "A housewarming gift."
The three grabbed a phone and saw that there the GPS was already on. It showed them how to get to their school.

"Well, a lot has happened. We've all become these new... things" Yune said calmly.
"Yeah. I still can't believe what happened. Everything here seems normal, but on the inside I feel completely different," Jack said while looking at her marking. The mark of the snake on her arm began to blacken and it felt like something was digging itself deeper inside of her.
Yune stared at her cat mark and felt something clawing inside of it. Mary, too, with her mark of a crow.
Yune gritted her teeth and squeezed her arm from the clawing sensation. Mary squeezed her arm and repeated the phrase "ouch" over and over. "Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch."
Jack, however, did not feel any kind of pain from the mark. She was bewildered and scratched her head.
After their mark started to calm down, the markings began to fade into nothing. As if it was never there, but the three still felt its presence.
"Looks like it wants to remind us of what we are. No longer heroes of the light," Jack stated.
Yune gasped and wiped off some sweat. She, then maintained her composure. She looked at the two with determination and grit. It looked as though she was about to say some kind of big speech or inspirational quote. Mary and Jack thought that she was about to say something like "Even so, our best chances for survival is if we stick together. There are only the three of us and it seems that every other Light Guardian would see us as an enemy." Jack and Mary both agreed on that statement, but wanted to wait until Yune said it as she gave off an aura of leadership.
Seconds went by.
"Yep," was the only thing Yune could say. She didn't know what else to say.

Mary and Jack both facepalmed.
"Well, so much for good leadership," Mary said.
"Yune, what about if we all stuck together even at the school?" Jack asked.
"Well, of course. I thought that was obvious," Yune said.
"Great," Mary said sarcastically, "I am so glad we are on the same page."
The three began walking to school with Hades flying way overhead thinking to himself that he chose a good team. "As long as they can get over their own personal problems and be a team, I think this can work," Hades said to himself.
