《Offworld》Skills

I woke up in the middle of the night in complete darkness except a soft silver light coming from the window.
I was feeling all relaxed and energetic, and was not able to stay in one place with all the pent up energy.
I had now decided to learn some skills’ but first I had to eat. I went to the fridge and ate all that was left in it, which was not much, and washed it down with some water.
I grabbed my makeshift spear and went out.
As soon as I did I was faced with the biggest full moon I had ever seen. It looked so big and so bright that you couldn’t really look straight into it for too long. Looking at that marvellous moon made me think how insignificant I really was in the great scheme of things and about my parent, relatives and friends I would probably never see again.
A lone tear fell slowly down my face but I did not let it fall to the ground.
‘I have to look at the positive side. Even if I am far from my comfy life, this is a new world with new opportunities and adventure. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad here after all.'
After I regained my composure I was ready to start learning some skills.
....
The way of learning skills was a little different, because to learn skills you had not only to use the energy inside the blue gem but also use your soul and brain. When you wanted to learn some skill for example running, you had to first start running and while doing so, will the energy to move towards the brain and your soul at the same time.
When you did that, with the soul as an intermediate, the brain would start to optimise and improve the way that you were running making you run faster and more efficiently. The brain was the hardware, the soul the software and the energy from the gem the power source.

When you did that and the brain finished its optimization of the skill, a slight change would start to happen to the muscles .They would start to convulse, stretch and contort rapidly, until they were more used to the type of movement that was required to run, in turn creating muscle memory.
For my first skill I decided it to be an attack one. I took my spear in my hand held it tightly thrusting repeatedly with all my strength forward.
*HAAT* *HAAT* *HAAT* *HAAT* *HAAT* *HAAT*
While I started thrusting my spear, I willed the energy in the gem to move towards my soul and mind. The energy started decreasing, my mind went blank and I started thrusting absentmindedly.
I regained my consciousness after some time only to find that my brain and muscles hurt like hell. It seemed like I had been running and also been up learning for my exam all night long at the same time.
I dismissed all the tiredness I was feeling and checked my status page to find a new addition to it
Skills
1
Thrust lv 1
Lounge forward with any type of pointed weapon to cause maximum damage.
I smiled .This was the first skill I learned.
Even if the description didn't sound that awesome it was a very practical one.
After I rested for a while I started to learn other skills.
.....
After hours I learned another three skills.
Side Sweep lv1
Move your weapon in a large ark horizontally in front of you for maximum AOE damage.
Downwards Strike lv1
Move your weapon in a large ark vertically down in front of you for maximum damage.
Side Roll lv1
Roll in the ground to avoid any attack coming your way.
I was pleased with my achievements and couldn’t wait to try them, but first I had to wait for sunrise.

"Kene comes first." Nephern and Sterthen, previously the first and second captains of the Sun Guard, were exiled. Banished to the edges of the empire that they used to call home. There, just outside of the city of Anghelen and on the edges of the Helefiran - the dark forest - they lived in relative peace, raising their daughter Kene. Nearly a decade has passed, and the "dark forest" hardly lived up to its name. For the two elite soldiers, the creatures that occasionally wandered out of it were barely a nuisance. Until now. Faced with a declaration of war from one of the Empire's oldest foes and the emergence of... something else... the two have to fight to hold onto the life that they built in exile. --- --- --- This story is continued here: The Life Between Worlds - VOL I
