《The Price of Wishing》The Want for Wishes

Davis turned to Miriam.

"You have to make another wish. You have to wish that none of them can see us."

Caleb hissed, but he didn't disagree. The cat didn't look at her.

She put her hand to her hair, shook her head. There was a price to wishes. That had been a small wish, just getting them to safety. This was something else. It might cost her too much.

Davis stood back and waved a hand at what lay in front of them.

"Think about it," said Davis. " How else are we going to get through them all?"

She shook her head, took a step away from him. There had to be another way. Caleb was still silent.

Echo was standing next to Davis, examining the way his neck turned.

"Mir!"

She stood straight and looked him in the eye. She slowly shook her head, not breaking eye contact.

"You won't?" he asked, sounding just as mad as she was. "Fine."

He grabbed Echo, brought the monster's tooth to her neck. Echo squirmed but he held her firm, increased pressure on her neck just enough to make her stay still.

"Friends," she said like he was making some kind of mistake.

When he ignored her, she looked at Miriam, eyes wide and terrified.

"Friends?" she asked Miriam.

Davis didn't look at her. He stared at Miriam.

"Make the wish," he said.
