《Dread Necromancer Of Glyphs》Chapter 2: Preparations

After packing everything necessary, he went back to attending to Lord Orson for the rest of the day. He acquainted himself with the layout of the small villa.
The most troublesome thing was that he saw a half-elven slave in torn clothes and choke marks on her neck. When he noticed the marks, he felt such unbelievable rage that he almost lost control of his newly acquired body. He only felt such rage when he was tortured by his superiors. It was actually quite shocking for him, that the mortal could still exert such control over his body even though he was being supressed at every moment.
But the longer the imp actually thought about it, the more sense it made. First, he was a novice in the whole possessing others shtick, second, it made sense that the original inhabitant was much more acquainted with his own body than a newly arrived soul, thus resulting in the difficulty to supress such rage for example.
The imp guessed that this slave was someone important to him. His sister or a childhood friend perhaps? Fact was, that the mortal soul named Krenas didn't enjoy seeing this person having choke marks. He of course understood where those marks came from.
He noted in his mind that he should treat this person good, otherwise, more such disturbances would arise.
Other than that, nothing much happened for the rest of the day, which made the devil quite pleased. He didn't like dealing with not only the pain resulting from his injured soul but also with sudden outburst from the two souls inside him.
What he didn't want to admit though, was that he was very nervous. That wasn't how he was taught demons behaved. This demon seemed young and very similar to a simple beast yet it wasn't. Aside from the battle of souls, the demon didn't cause any sort of trouble. Was it instinct to wait for an oportunity or did the aco have a plan?
The imp shook his head. This contradicted everything he was taught from his higher ups in hell. The most dangerous soul between the two was the mortal who had much more control over his recently lost body than the demon.
The imp needed to deal with it. But, but how? Sure, he could make a deal with a mortal concerning their soul. That is correct. Well, atleast he could in his former body. He didn't actually know whether he could still do that or not.
But nonetheless, he was never proficient in "souls". Yes, he had a little bit of knowledge in that area but in terms of manipulating or even destroying them? He didn't have the foggiest idea.
For example, souls had a 'core' and, well, the other part was difficult to explain. It was similar to clothing, only, as far as he understood, it was composed of feelings, obsessions or to easier explain it, their personality.
His higher ups said that the core of the soul was protected by a divine protection of an unknown deity and that angels, demons, devils or any supernatural creature could be formed from a soul depending on their alignment.
Many archdevils tried to circumvent this protection to form devils from good souls but all failed miserably. It is also said that the wound that took thousands of years to heal on the archdevil named Almelon, a very powerful archdevil who managed to hold his position to this day the last few millenia, was the result of trying to circumvent the protection on the soul cores.

The imp didn't have too many ideas on how to gain the knowledge needed to remove the two souls from this mortal body. The first would be to try to contact an archdevil. They surely would have the knowledge required to cast these two souls from this body. But he was very hesitant to do so. First, he would need the summoning ritual required to summon the archdevil, and that in and of itself is a very difficult thing to obtain. Second, he would need to offer an incredibly high price to the archdevil.
He shook his head. There was no way that he would be able to give a price that is pricey enough to make the archdevil give him the required knowledge.
Of course, he could ask another powerful fiend of one of the lower realms that might have this knowledge, but he didn't even consider it. Ask a demon lord? Yeah, right. Who would give an enemy such important knowledge?
One of the fiends of the neutral evil aligned realm Tartarus? One of the powerful merchant princes of tartarus surely has the knowledge required to kick those two souls out of the body? Probably correct but it's the same problem as with asking an archdevil. Even more so. The fiendish merchant princes are ruthless in their business practices.
The last one that he could think of would be the dark arts of necromancy. Necromancy was all about souls. Dragging souls into the material realm was it's specialty. But that was it's problem. "Dragging into" not "removing". Nevertheless, this was the easiest to obtain out of all options.
But it is by no means "easy". All necromancers are ruthless individuals that would rather kill you than talk to you.
This question of how to remove the two was splitting his mind. It was so difficult to solve this problem.
The imp sighed "Not like I can do anything about it, if I am worrying about it all the time. It's only wasting my limited mental energy that needs to go to supressing the two" thought the imp.
It was now already noon, so he opened the door into the servants sleeping room and crawled into his bed.
Tomorrow was a big day for him. He needed to have as much energy for the day as possible.
He undressed himself, closed his eyes, and drifted into the dreamland.
He awoke twenty minutes before the others, so he dressed himself up, washed himself and went to the kitched to grab himself something to eat. A most bothersome activity for a former immortal like himself. Eating used up so much time, he hated every second of it, but starving was much worse in comparison.
He arrived at the kitchen, where the cooks were working tirelessly. Much to his dismay, the food wasn't, in fact, ready.
He felt as if any second his superior devil would plop up behind him and punish him severly for slacking.
But even without the fear of getting tortured for half an hour straight, he despised wasting time. After all, if any of his enemies worked hard when he slacked, they would crush him eventually. Or, in hell, rise in the hiarchy ladder before him. Not exactly something that he liked to see happen.

Right now he had no choice though, so he sat down at a table and waited. Only until the other servants arrived, was the food suddenly ready. He felt as if they were withholding it from him. What a coincidence that it was only after the others arrived that the food was ready.
To say that he wanted to punch the cooks in the face as hard as he could, was an understatement.
How dare these irrelevant, puny, pathetic mortals withhold his needs from him?
He quickly supressed his rising anger and grabbed his portion of the food. Again, what a coicidence that there was a little bit less food for him than for the others.
"I'll soon rip off your head for this pathetic creature, you'll see" thought the imp with a rising feeling of bloodlust.
He sat back down at the same spot where he first sat, and began to eat his portion. After everyone was ready eating, they formed into a line with the head maid, once again, giving out orders.
He was, of course, assigned to the young master of the chutwall family since this was the day he accompanied the young master to the magical academy of the kingdom. In fact, only half an hour was left for departure. So he hurriedly left the others and headed to his room to grab his bag of clothes and so on.
Afterwards, he exited his room once again to head to Lord Orson's room. He knocked on the door.
"Come in" Lord Orson said.
He opened the door, seeing the excited looking Orson. He was so excited that he almost jumped around the room.
An understandable reaction from the imp's point of view. It should be every being's goal to become less pathetic than they are right now, especially mortals, who were less than ants in the point of view of outsiders like himself.
The young master gradually calmed himself, seeing Krenas holding a bag of his own, he nodded.
He then haughtily ordered "Carry my bag too".
The imp went to the bag and grabbed it. Both of the young men went out of the room. After they exited the villa, a noble looking carriage waited for them. They entered the carriage, Krenas then placed the two bags beside him.
Approximately in the middle of the journey Lord Orson said "Forgot to remind you that if you embarass me in the academy, father will not only kill you. Your oh so loved sister will suffer too" he licked his lips after he said the last part.
This time not only rage and hatred swelled up, to the imp's shock, he could even hear Krenas's soul nearly shouting inside him. "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!! I'll tor-"
Now he had even difficulties suppressing the shouts of Krenas's soul. The imp gritted his teeth, trying to supress the invading thoughts inside his mind.
Seeing the half-elf making a painful expression, the chubby human grinned. If the imp wasn't so focused on trying to supress the accursed mortals shouts inside his mind, he would have difficulties trying to hold back a different emotion.
That emotion would be amusement. He found it hilarious that this stupid child thought that the imp cared about some slave getting raped. Why should he care about some woman he didn't know?
The half-elf's soul however didn't find it amusing one single bit, the shouting of him swearing to torture, maim and kill the chubby human were testiment enough for that.
An hour later, the carriage finally arrived at the magical academy's gates.
It was a grand building with approximately hundred of new would-be-students to the academy standing in a line before something that the imp couldn't see yet.
The two exited the carriage, with their bags of course. A man who appeared to be a teacher was standing right in front of the gates to guide new arrivals.
"Please join in the back of the line and wait for your turn to be tested" the spoke up.
The young master of the cutwall family arrogantly exclaimed "I am Lord Orson of the chutwall family, where should I be tested?"
The teacher smiled and answered "We are pleased to receive you Lord Orson, you will be tested with all the others"
Orson exclaimed in disbelief "But? But I a noble! Why should I stand in line with all the commoners?"
The teacher smiled a trained smile that didn't reach his eyes as if he said this line to other nobles a thousand times already "We judge every new student of ours on magical ability, not whether they have a title or not. Please join the back of the line or be removed from this academy, if you insist on making a ruckus, Lord Orson"
The young master was shocked! No one ever treated him like this! How dare some commoner treat him like this?!
He silently sweared to make this teacher pay after he becomes a powerful mage. With no other option, he and his servant joined the line.
After what seemed like an eternity, they finally arrived at the first places of the line. 'Krenas' could finally see what was the "test" of theirs. The blood froze in his veins when he saw what it was. It was a glassball. Now that was not the horrible part. When someone put their hand on the glassball, it showed a hybrid colored cloud. A cloud that had light and dark particles. This was someones soul. He knew this because of how Krenas's soul looked like in the battle between the three souls. Afterwards the ball would determine based on their personality within their soul, which type or types of magic were suitable for them.
This was horrible. If anyone discovered him, this would be beyond terrible. This was a guaranteed death sentence for him. He thought about leaving as quick as possible but that would be stupid too. Without learning magic, he would not be able to get rid of the two dangers inside him. Should he risk it or not?
Maybe the glassball wouldn't recognize his devil soul? He could only hope, for it was his only real road to walk on.
