《The Putrid Assassin (Complete)》Chapter #17

Maybe she had allergies I thought to myself?
I held her with one arm for about 10 minutes because I didn't know what to do. This was one of my few intimate relationships with a woman I had ever had. Eventually, my curiosity became so great I had to say something.
"Noona are you okay," I asked
"I'm fine we should be safe here for the night at least." She said
"Really I would think something would take the opportunity to attack us if we both fell asleep," I said
She replied "All the creatures below rank 5 avoid this area. There are rumors that beneath this boulder field lays a level 6 quix king beast. Although it has been dormant for the past 50 years."
What if it woke up on the one night we decided to camp here, I thought to myself.
I tried to hide my small gulp of fear but she heard it.
"We've both had huge amounts of bad luck in our lives. There is no way we will die in our sleep." She said after a small giggle
"It's fine I didn't plan to sleep tonight," I said in a joking tone
I felt her breathing stop for at least four seconds. And then with a small roll, she turned to face me. Her green eyes held a hint of red from crying. Our noses were so close they were almost touching.
"What did you say?" She asked me in a voice that was almost a whisper.
I opened my mouth to reply when in her eyes I saw the scene of her kissing her previous lover while he lay on her knees dieing. Didn't she say that her eyes only replayed scenes of the people her poision had killed I thought to myself?

Startled I instantly rolled to face away from her and avoid that scene. Neither of us said anything for five minutes. I heard the sniffling again. But I had just watched the scene of her killing her previous lover. And I didn't have the courage to ask her about it. So I just waited for sleeps silent embrace.
The next day when I got up everything had been packed up and I was lying alone in the tent.
I got up and walked out only to see noona sitting on a rock to my right.
Her melodious voice reached out to me.
"You saw it didn't you dax?"
"The entire city poisoned to death or you killing your previous lover?" I asked
"So that's why you had such a violent reaction last night?" she replied
"What did you expect me to do?" I asked not knowing what to say
"You do know that if you use my poison for revenge. The scenes of you killing that entire faction will be replayed in my eyes every time you look at me."
I had never really considered this so it caught me off guard and I couldn't respond for a fair amount of time. She swiftly picked up the tent and started to walk off.
"Wait for me noona" I yelled as I chased after her
We were still walking through the boulder field when I asked.
"What is your real name noona?"I asked
"My name is lexi" she responded curtly
Even her name was hot I thought to myself. We walked for about an hour until we ran into a desert area.
"We are getting close" noona said
"How are we getting close that's a desert last I heard vines grew in the jungle?"
"Just trust me and no more daydreaming the quixbests here are something I can only handle one at a time we might have to run if more then one comes."

I reached into my pocket and pulled out the mirror cube and gave it to noona saying.
"I want you to use this in case the worse happens"
She didn't even respond what happened earlier must have really got to her.
We started to walk through the desert.
"Look over there"noona whispered
I looked and there were four large black scorpions and one red one.
"If they ever catch us were dead she whispered in my ear. I could feel the heat and fear in her voice. We quickly made a loop around them.
"Ya in not seeing any vines lexi."
Look that's where we are going she said as she pointed towards a small pond of dirty water resting against a particularly large dune.
"We need to dive through that to find the poison vine. But there are desert eel demonic beasts in there."
I assumed she had planned for this so I followed quietly. We climbed up to the dune above it.
"Drink this it's an antidote to the paralysis drug I made. I'm going to knock out all the eels with poison and we will dive through the pond and come up in one of the underground caves," she said
"Should I be expecting air in these underground caves?" I replied
"Yes now, are you ready to begin? Just follow me as soon as we enter the water."
She said as she tossed an open glass jar into the water. We counted to sixty and then with a run and a dive we plunged into the watery abyss. I can't believe she dived in fully clothed I thought to myself. I could barely follow her in the sandy water. I bumped into something on the way down and too my horror it was a slimy body as thick as mine and so long I couldn't see the end of it.
Best not to get distracted as I saw lexi make a sharp turn right. I followed her as she swam in between to rocks and then swam up. My head broke the surface and I felt fresh air wash over my face. We had made it to a large underground cave. We swam over and arrived on a small beach. Lexi got out of the water first she took off her robe and had just her t-shirt and jeans on. They clung to her wet body closely she saw me looking and crossed her arms and told me to get out of the water and come on the beach. But beneath the water unknown to her my sword had hardened so I refused to leave the water for at least thirty minutes. For fear of being laughed at.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
