《The Putrid Assassin (Complete)》Chapter #5

The world was dark and hot, was this hell I thought to myself.
Weird I didn't think my life had been evil to the point that I deserved to go to hell.
I thought that because I had saved the captain. Who was a pure existence that I deserved to go to heaven?
As the thoughts ran through my head I inhaled to let out a sigh and what assaulted my nostrils was the putrid smell of death.
Wait, what death im most certainly not in hell I thought. Because everyone in hell is most certainly dead.
The next sensation was a hot syrupy liquid running down my face. I tried to sit up to wipe it off my face but then came to the realization that I was unable to move. The last thing I remember was falling off the humongous rock.
So then if I'm not dead I've been buried alive and will soon die so I guess it doesn't really matter.
I lay in that perpetual hell for what seemed like an eternity resigned to death. When from my mind came a strong will to live.
I was so thirsty that the liquid pouring down on my face seemed very appetizing so I drank it. I continued to drink it and felt some of my strength restoring.
Time seemed to flow on for eternity when suddenly an abnormal sound assaulted my ears.
At first, it sounded like voices coming from someplace very far away but gradually they got closer and the pressure on my chest started to decrease.
"One two three heave" Said a man
" Damn why didn't I come from a noble family then I wouldn't have to be collecting the corpses" Unknown Man
Suddenly my eyes were assaulted by a bright light that burned so badly.

I could see two men walking toward a wagon with a dead man in between them. They turned around to come back for another course when they saw me.
"Holy shit there is a head that is still alive even without a body" man 1
"Shit shit its an evil spirit coming to haunt me for abusing women in the brothels" Man 2
I was able to creak out a few words " Help me I got buried alive"
They seemed to feel like fools but then instantly suspicion crossed there faces.
"The battle here was nearly a month ago there is no way you could have survived under there for a month"
"The magical syrup provided me with some sustenance and water," I said to them
Their faces became horrified and then the second man said to me "The only liquid around here is the blood of the countless soldiers. And you were stuck under them so blood must have been what you were drinking."
"Regardless dig me out for I am alive," I said
They slowly dug me out then since I was unable to move they threw me onto there carriage and left me there while they finished their day's work.
They began chatting with each other about me as we rode in the carriage to go back to camp. I thought to myself there was no way that could have been blood it gave me energy. Then a shocking realization came to me what if it was the blood of other cultivators and I was absorbing there quix.
Quickly I searched my soul counciness and found that I had no excess quix. But the glass that was used to assemble my slate had all turned different colors.
I spoke to the soldiers and said to them " I am going to sleep and leave myself in your care"

Then everything went black....
The ceiling was exactly the same as the first time I had thought I died had I gone back in time?
Nope, the old man that was here last time was gone.
" Eat up your condition is awful even if you have no injuries," The nurse said to me
I looked down at my shriveled body and readily agreed with her as I consumed the bread and water left next to my body
"It's a miracle to be alive, you must be favored by the gods of the battlefield," she said to me while pointing at my chest.
Where the arrow had penetrated my chest there was a massive scar " this only means that I have to struggle to live on a little longer " I said to the nurse
I continued to stay in the medical bay for two weeks until finally my strength had been returned to me.
" I must thank you, Mrs nurse, for taking such good care of me all the time"
"As soon as you leave you should take a bath the smell off the dead still remains on you. And go report to your superior as soon as possible," She said
I strolled towards where I remembered the beautiful captain's tent to be and threw the fold open.
Only to realize that on the banner hanging on the wall was not the banner I remembered, in fact, it had been the banner of the enemy.
" Who is so bold as to throw my tent flap open" A young man my age with white hair and startling blue eyes stared at me
Shit, I thought inwardly not only have I almost died I walked right into the enemy's greatest stronghold.
" It is I your lord's most loyal soldier returns from the battlefield" Hoping to preserve my life I said these words
"What battalion are you a part of?"
" I am just a mercenary that works for your army"
"But I thought you said you were my lost loyal soldier?'
"That's because the coin your army gives me makes me loyal"
"Verry well you are dismissed young merc, may the gods favor you"
I walked out of the tent with a small smile on my face because that was the man I had hit in the head with a rock.
I was unable to come to a conclusion onto weather my luck was awful or really good for surviving.
Regardless there was no way I was gonna fight for this side of the army.
I walked out of the enemy's camp with the only thing in my possession was a smile.
Perhaps I shall do some traveling find some rare medicines maybe find a woman.
I thought as I walked in the exact opposite direction of the battlefields of horror.
