《Kalestra's Chosen (*Finished*)》Epilogue

Ban sat in the dark listening to the drips of water and then felt a drop on him. He sighed and scooted over. He put his head back. He could not sleep. He was restless and held a deep regret. He had turned his country into a nightmare and lost any power he had. He took the trinket he had stolen out of his pocket. Anto had decided that the old woman's things were inconsequential. He was curious about the flat thing that glowed in the dark. He touched things on the surface and noises played, and others dinged at him. Things were in a language he didn't read. It was new to Kalestra. He was annoyed it wasn't in the common tongue of Dragon. Something came open and he pressed on the small images. They filled up the space of the whole device and when he touched it again they moved. He found he could view the images in succession. Then one began moving like he was watching the people through a small window. People were in a place with food and beverages. They were happy and waving or laughing. Then the thing beeped at him again and went dark. He could not make it light up again. He sighed mournfully. He was forgotten. No food or Water, not even a guard. Just a collar that prevented his using magic and a couple of pots. One pot he had under a drip to collect what water leaked into his cell. The other would soon be too full to do anything with. No one would even know to rescue him. He had no honor guard with elite training like his Aunt did. Just as well, they didn't seem to be able to protect her from the necromancers. He surprisingly did not mourn her loss like he thought he might. Even though she had adopted and raised him as her heir after his parents had died. No, what he mourned now was what he lost after the coup. He trusted the wrong people. He wanted power so badly he made a mistake. And now he wasn't worth torture or food. He was forgotten. He let that sink in. He didn't feel like crying. He wasn't even that angry. He just laughed. He heard it echo, and reverberate through the little dungeon. He stood up and took off his outer cloak. He rolled it into a makeshift pillow. Nothing for it now but to sleep. **************** The wind blew through the camp colder as the days wore on and the refugees kept streaming in. All of the leaders and immortals argued what was to be done before winter. Take back Feren, Sir Xander had said to many cheers. The Queen supported this idea. She also wanted to set up a permanent colony in the mountain. The land beyond should be hers after her throne was restored. Leaders of many other countries argued against that passionately.

Elda hovered on the other side of the tent. She knew if she walked in they would mob her in their quest to find her favor. They were all now arguing loudly with each other. Elda took a deep breath and was about to enter when a slender hand caught her shoulder. She looked up. Delphina looked down at her with a steady but not unfriendly gaze.
"Let them sort it out. We have a much more important thing to do." She said and smiled. Delphina tore open a portal to the In-between and took Elda's hand. Brecka sang a sweet hello to Elda. Elda followed them through and let the rift swallow them up.

Magic is a terrifying force. Logic itself is subject to this energy, which is (logically speaking) impossible for us to comprehend. Every universe requires some version of magic to exist. That is, all but one. Our world functiouns based on a powerful and intricate net of laws that act independently from magical interference. The most notable of these is the human brain, which is capable of even more than its creator had thought possible. Naturally, this prompted the question: "How would a human fare in a world of magic?" Soon, there was a bet. Next, a human was selected. Finally, an odd young man with a strange black hat was introduced to his new world, and all restraints were removed.

There was nothing Jess craved more than the rush of battle, having trained for endless hours in mastering all the weapons of war. She would do anything to prove herself worthy, anything to be granted the rights and privileges of every knight who fought for the Crown. Anything not to be relegated to the status of simpering handmaiden, a wallflower at court whose only purpose was to be meek and demure for the pleasure of arrogant men she despised. When a certain professor of etiquette makes it clear that she would see Jess broken and humbled, forced to submit to a lady's proper role, Jess will do whatever she must to escape that fate. Even if it means blackening her dagger for king and country, learning what it truly means to be a Squire of War. (Warning: Though it starts off gently - sex, graphic violence, heroism, and betrayal are all part of the story.)

Taryn is a mutant in a world where mutants are considered no more than monsters in human skin. The descendants of the gods rule as mortal Kings and the entire world waits for their fates to be decided in the prophesied battle between the Last Lothor King and the mutants’ Dark Prince. But Taryn believes this is all fantasy, born from legends and myth. There are no gods; only mutants who don’t know how to use their abilities, and middlings who are too afraid to even think that they should learn. Taryn is determined to change that. Her plan is a simple one: win the King to her cause and the faiths of the masses will compel them to follow. It should have been an easy enough task; the King doesn’t seem to believe in the prophecies any more than she does. But soon the ambitions of a criminal empire, the plots of warmongering officials and the looming threat of a violent faith movement begin to erode their fragile relationship and derail her plans. Can the two of them reconcile in time to prevent a civil war or will their inability to work together bring about the very thing they’ve fought so hard to avoid?

As the daughter of a renowned War Hero, Shaya was destined for a life of heroism and glory. A life she desired more than anything else – until her mother sacrificed herself for the cause and the very Empire she died for stole Shaya’s dreams from her. Cunning and resourceful, Shaya worked hard to keep her and her brother safe, clawing themselves out of a system set against them and gaining the power they needed to find their way in life again. Now, she’s achieved the first step of her dreams: she's been accepted to the prestigious Imperial Academy of War and Magic. In order to become the best gods damned Warmage around, all she has to do is overcome the Imperial system that wants to see her fail and control the demonic blood in her veins that wants for nothing but rage and violence. ...but hey, every obstacle is an opportunity to exploit – if you’re willing to think smart and work hard. Updates Sunday - Tuesday - Thursday![successful participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Rating: This should align pretty closely with your typical MCU movie, so PG-13 for scenes of fantasy violence. There'll be gore and some swearing but not much beyond that. If that changes, I'll warn you. MC: Shaya is analytical, but begins the story emotional and impulsive. She leans towards rationality and uses this to control her demonic impulses to the best of her abilities. She begins the story as a somewhat capable protagonist, but grows in power steadily through hard work and diligence. Fights: ...I like fight scenes. They’re going to be detailed, but I won’t drown you in description of individual hand movements or footwork. I like fights that can be solved like puzzles by the audience, where creative thinking wins the day using tools you know the protagonist has at their disposal.

“The human body is a fragile thing. But the soul... The soul is malleable. Easily tainted. All it takes is one drop of blood to dye it all red.” It was supposed to be a simple job. Escort Alden to Lightendale and collect the handsome reward. The reward that would let him live the rest of his life with ease. But it’s never that simple, especially for someone who denies the Gods. Death follows Leor everywhere he goes, cutting down his friends and family. When his first love died at the hands of a rampaging Awakened, he was prepared to throw everything away until a mysterious voice offered him a chance for revenge and a chance to bring her back by completing the seven trials. He wants to destroy the Gods who abuse their powers, but will he team up with a Goddess to accomplish his goal? UPDATE (10/18/21): I will no longer be updating this version of the story. Thank you all who actually liked this version, but this version does not sit well with me anymore. I have an updated version called: Condemned: Tale of Light. Please read this story on that fiction page instead. I changed many things. Thanks again for reading. I hope to see you on the new version. I'll leave this old version up for people to compare with the new one. Like a public first first draft. -Ando
