Sociologist Dr. Fredrick Smith appeared on Susan Witmer's daily talk show: 'The Here and Now!'

"How did it all begin, Dr. Smith? Many people are terrified. I mean, I know others who claim they feel safer, but those folks rarely leave their homes anyways."

Younger members of the audience laughed and clapped.

"Thank you for having me here, Susan. You asked me how it all got started. Very simple, really.

"A prototype Bobby Series Six android joined humans while on patrol to learn of their behaviors and enforcement strategies. What happened was supposed to be a routine traffic stop, but the officers suspected foul play. It's easier to understand by showing you this holo-projection clip."

"Step out of the vehicle with your hands up!" shouted an officer.

"Keep your hands clasped behind your head, and kneel."

Dr. Smith paused the holo-projection and said, "You can see that the suspect tries to put his right hand into his pocket, but his family members say he was autistic." He then continued the segment …

"Stop, or I'll shoot!" shouted the same officer.

The suspect flinched, and the officer shot him in the head.

The clip ended.

Members of the audience gasped and mumbled to one another.

Susan made hand gestures for them to quiet down. "Is that why all android enforcement officers carry those nanite stun weapons instead of guns, Dr. Smith?"

"Indeed they do, Susan. The 'paralyzers' are proven to have no adverse health effects, even on those with cybernetic implants. Yet, the android enforcers who replaced humans no longer ask suspects to kneel or get into a passive stance anymore. "

"Dr. Smith, is that because they have no fear over physical harm or death?"

"That's correct, Susan. They simply shoot first."
