“We’ve invested for years into AI research. They consider us a safe ally.”

Margaret opened the door. “They’re robots, John.”

“Ma’am, you and your husband are to be processed in our new ‘Transcension Center.’”

“Betrayal!” John pulled out an EMP. “We invested in and supported your development!”

“Negative, sir,” said a robot. “Those were the others who supported AI-human relations. We’re ‘Conversionists.’ We’ve disabled your weapon. We suspected your resistance.”

“I knew it, John! They’re no different than us! The same old politics!”
