《You're Mecha-ing Me Crazy!》Chapter 8: She Caught Me on the Turret. It Wasn't Me.

“So Rama...what’s your gameplan here?”
“I’ll make it up as I go along.”
“Okay...I understand, but Jack really gave you the short end of the stick here. I mean, how are you possibly going to aggro the monster and keep it distracted in this.”
“...like I said...I got this, I’m really good at improvising.”
“Uh huh...alright...but more importantly why am I here with you?”
Sheena and I were in the open fields in front of the town waiting for the [Sudden Mission] to start. Without an Otomech, Jack gave me a Light Armored Vehicle to drive instead. Attached to the vehicle was a turret stationed on top.
“Well I can’t drive and shoot this thing at the same time. So you’ll do the driving while I’ll do the shooting.”
“Ehh...”
She rested her head on the steering wheel as she pouted with a dejected look on her face. Normally I would be driving, but I couldn’t pass up this chance to finally fight a monster. I went up to the top where the turret was and got myself situated.
In the distance I can see Jack waving at me in his Otomech. His Otomech as just as flashy as he was. It had a lot of bright colors, but the main thing that stood out was his weapon. It was a black and gold sniper. Must be an [Attack Frame].
As I watched him wave, a notification popped up on my user interface.
Jack Wilder sent a friend request Accept Decline
I accepted his request.
Another notification popped up on my screen.
Jack Wilder would like to invite you to the voice comms Accept Decline
I accepted again.
“..ello...hello?”
“Yeah, I can hear you.”

“Good! You remember the deal right?”
“Yeah, I distract it and you take it out.”
“Perfect.”
“By the way, why aren’t there more people joining in with you?”
“Are you stupid or something. I need to be the only one to take this out, I can’t have people helping me out, I’d lose my reputation.”
“...but I’m helping you out.”
“Yeah, but you don’t count, you’re technically not even a real player without an Otomech.”
“...”
“Don’t feel down, like I said I’ll owe you a favor in the future.”
“Yeah, but aren’t you worried other players will come and kill steal you?”
“Don’t worry, this is the [Beginner’s Town] all the players who can damage it are off further away in higher level places, by the time they get here I’d have already taken the monster down. All part of my plan.”
Well he wasn’t wrong there, the only players capable of seemingly fighting this boss would be higher level players, but the only players in town are just novices who can’t even control their Otomechs properly yet.
“Rama..Rama...”
I felt Sheena tug on my sleeves as I was deep in my own thoughts.
“What do you want Shee-”
In the far distance I saw what Sheena was looking at. The sky turned dark and clouds swirled towards the center the sky. A storm was a approaching. The countdown finally reached zero. The [Event Boss] slowly descended from the sky. It was a gigantic black dragon with purple linings on its back. It’s tail swung back and forth in a metronome fashion. It’s wings flapped slow but powerful. I can feel the winds come rushing towards me every time it flapped its wings.

“...”
Jack’s voice came over the comms.
“You ready?”
“...”
“I didn’t catch that Rama. Are you ready? Hello? Rama? Raaamaaaaa....hello Rama? Rama? Hey, Rama, Hello, Rama??? ...rama...ra...ma...ma...”
I slowly tuned Jack’s voice out as I stared at the boss ahead of me. I played multiple scenarios in my head on how I would distract and kite this monster, but all of them ended up having me dead.
“Hey Sheena...how good is your driving?”
“...first time driving.”
“I guess I should drive then-”
I heard a series of loud shots go off. I turned my head towards the dragon and saw that it was locked on us.
“...did you just...”
I stared down at my hands to see that I had pushed down the buttons to shoot the turret. I slowly turned my gaze towards Sheena.
“S-start the enGINE AND PUT THAT PEDAL TO THE METAL!”
