《Aurora's Sky》Chapter 10 : Aurora (10)

Dr. Estinger and M1 were both extremely fatigued from all the running and fighting. Seeing that Tek had long left behind the Milky Way and was approaching a new system, Tri Colossus, they both began to rest.
Tri Colossus was accurately named as the system only had 3 extremely large planets with an even larger star at the center of it. It was devoid of life and only occasionally did a patrol came by. The planet closest to the star was impossible to live on as the heat climbed up to around 800 degrees Celsius at its highest. The other two planets were gas planets and much larger than the other planet. This was extremely surprising as the first planet could easily hold 1200 Earths.
Dr. Estinger and M1 weren't worried that any patrol would come by soon because of the war front. Around 5 hours later Dr. Estinger woke up, much earlier than M1 as he had to heal his cauterized wound from the railgun. This involved him recutting around the wound and then resting. He didn't need medicine as his recovery speed was extremely high and such a wound would only take some time. Also, he didn't trust Dr. Estinger enough to believe that he wasn't going to be poisoned by the sly fellow while applying the given "medicine".
Dr. Estinger glared at M1 as he shuffled pass and M1 opened one of his eyes, reacting instinctively to the danger he felt. Dr. Estinger sighed as he knew he had no chance against the monster even in his rest. He then went to the capsule that Aurora was in and set it on the table. He connected it to the computer on board and began extracting the A.I.'s information. On a seperate monitor he also began compiling the information that Aurora gave him about transferring consciousnesses. He gazed at Aurora's face again and for the first time realized that there was a book in her hand.

He had previously been extremely paniced and hadn't even looked anywhere else besides her face and wounds. He noticed for the first time that it was there and went to the cryo-lab to begin removing the book. He put on his suit and entered the cryo-lab. As the name suggests it was created solely for cryogenic freezing. It was made when the first successful subject of cryogenic freezing died after they too hastily opened the capsule. He had instantly exploded into many shards upon contact with the air. The subject was George, the monkey. Poor monkey.
After setting up the required tools, he swiped over an option on the capsule. Two thin mechanical arms appeared on both sides and he highlighted the item he wanted to remove. The mechanical arms went to work and meticulously slid the book under the arms of Aurora. The book was then brought through a small chamber where they slowly adjusted the temperatures to melt the slime on it and return it to its original state.
He took the capsule back out and retrieved the book from outside the cryo-lab, where it had been waiting for him all nice and neat. The book was charred in the corner and it was tightly hugged to Aurora's chest even in near death. On top of it was labeled Diary.
It didn't take a genius to understand what the book was. It was a book that his daughter wrote her feelings and experiences in. It was unlike any other book he had seen from her, one that wasn't another theory. The cover wasn't like the other notebooks he had bought for her. It was a book that could be commonly found around the library. He opened the Diary with gentle eyes and slow movements, almost as if he was holding his daughter.

Much like his father before him, the new master of House Doom is a prodigy of war, yet the venerable minions of his household still hold strange loyalties toward his missing ancestor, silently comparing the legendary rage of his father to the more pragmatic approach of the son. Adding to Basil’s frustrations is the lack of accomplishment he feels for his work, with the dungeon keeper often taking on handicaps just to give his enemies a fighting chance. With all the power and wealth one could ever dream of already within his grasp, Basil now finds that the achievements of others kindle more joy in his heart than his own crushing victories. Thus Basil has taken up mentoring the next generation of dungeon keepers to try and diagnose the cause for his own lack of passion. With his apprentice, Elnora, managing most of the daily work around the dungeon, Basil can finally turn his attention towards his personal concerns, such as tackling the shadow of his legendary father that still looms large over him.
