《Headpat Bot!!!》His Name is Byte

“Yeah” he stated quickly while looking at me. “You still haven't told me your designation.”
“A-ah I see, Saito, Erika Saito. But we usually just call them names.”
“I see,” he said quietly, “well we better be going.”
“W-what do you mean? Where are we going?” I asked nervously
“To skewl, you said you were late, lets go.” he said as he started to walk away.
“You're right, but that's not the right way” I said plainly as I pointed in the direction of the school.
“Hrm, I see” he said stoically as he began to walk back in my direction.
As we walked it was mostly silent, after he put his helmet back on I didn't have the nerve to ask such an aloof person, robot, whatever he is, any questions. Of course there were things I wanted to know about him, like where he was from, who built him, why he came here, but I couldn't muster the courage. I noticed at one point I was staring at him pretty closely without meaning to, but by the time I noticed it was too late
“What is it” he asked in a simple, but gentle tone.
“It's just that, i'm not sure what to call you” I laughed nervously
“I see” he said quietly “B4-61 should suffice”
I let out a small sigh before saying “maybe we should call you something that has more name and fewer numbers' ' to which he didn't reply.
Once we arrived at the school it became apparent how late I was. The courtyard where students gathered in the morning before classes began was completely empty, as all the students were inside. At least this way no one would see the oddity that is the robot man that chaperoned me to the school.

“Well this is goodbye for now I suppose” I said a little disappointed as I smiled at him
“What?” he said, seeming a little startled by my words “I thought that I would be with you for ‘school’’ he said while looking up at my high school sign.
“What? N-no you can't, not looking like that everyone would either freak or or think that we got another weirdo who cosplays everyday” I said in a concerned manner.
“I see, then this is goodbye for now” he said as he began to walk away.
I felt terrible, I wanted to call out to him and tell him I was sorry, but the words welled up in my throat. Then i started to think “what is he going to do until i'm out of school?” “does he even have anywhere to go?” “what if someone does something to him?” I felt like a terrible person and a terrible friend, no, I felt even worse than that. When I got inside I got in trouble for being late and it made me feel even worse. What was I thinking? I should've just skipped for the day and came up with some kind of excuse as to why I wasn't there. That way I wouldn't have had to leave Byte alone while I'm here and I could have tried to find a way to help him blend in with the rest of the people. For the first bit of second period I just sulked, not even bothering to listen to what the instructor was lecturing, when out of nowhere, something unexpected happened. The door opened, and a boy with smoke grey hair peered in and asked
“Please excuse my interruption, but is this class 1-B?”
