《Reincarnated Nobility》54: Nostalgic Feelings

A few days had passed and I still couldn’t figure out exactly what my magic was. Sometimes I would go places without trying, or when I would reach for something it would appear in my hand. Luckily while it seemed to follow my thoughts it was more like commanding my limbs so unless I actually intended to do something nothing happened.

When my feelings of confusion and frustration with the sudden situation faded, I realized I was having fun. Unlike the previous adventures that were stressful and terrifying Cassandra only felt the excitement of the unknown.

It had been a while, but since she had found out something so important Cassandra called a meeting between her friends like old times. As the tenth princess she had her own meeting rooms at her disposal now so there was no need to sneak into an abandoned room or crowd Keane’s lab.

When everyone arrived, for some reason Nero tagged along as if it were natural. I hadn’t invited him but it probably wouldn’t hurt for him to hear this as well. Alois was looking surprisingly smug upon his arrival.

“So, what’s the news?” he asked as he sat down.

“Wait until everyone arrives,” Caleb scolded.

Keane and Autumn walked in last.

“Did something come up?’ Autumn asked me, looking nervous.

“Yes and no,” I replied before explaining the situation with magic and what I had learned about my own. “I can test whether or not someone is using Yuki’s magic, and I think I can unlock their magic but I haven’t tried it on anyone but myself. Reginald also thinks that magical creatures might not use Yuki’s magic.”

“We could test,” Caleb suggested, “By the way, Cassandra already tested me earlier when she was trying to figure things out.”

“Can she keep the results a secret?” Nero asked, “It may seem like something minor but there might be some deeper meaning than just determining whether or not Yuki’s magic is being used.”

“I can,” I promised, “but if there is that kind of meaning I haven’t figured it out yet. This scepter didn’t exactly come with an instruction manual.”

“I’m fine with it,” Keane said, “but I don’t think you will find much with me. I can’t use Yuki’s magic at all and it is unlikely I can use any other kind either.”

I nodded and held the scepter up, willing it to show me the lights again. Once again the purple light shone on me, and red on Caleb. Rena and Autumn were also purple, but what surprised me were Nero and Keane. Nero’s light was a deep blue without a hint of purple and Keane’s was pitch black. It couldn’t even be called a light.

“Is everything alright?” Alois asked.

“Ah, just a bit surprised,” I said and frowned again. There were two lights on Alois. His light was purple as well, but more on the blue side. However, the Eye shown bright green. I wasn’t sure what the new colors meant, but purple, red, and blue still seemed most common.

“So there is more to it,” Nero surmised.

“Yes, but I don’t know what any of it means,” I admitted, “Is it fine if I tell everyone here your colors?”

Everyone agreed, but Nero was watching me intently the whole time. I didn’t mention the green light representing the Eye since I wasn’t sure Alois wanted people to know about it. Everyone was a bit surprised by Keane’s black color.

“Does that mean there is no magic?” Rena asked.

“If that was the case I feel like no light would have appeared at all,” Caleb pointed out, “I think it means something, but we have no way of finding out for now.”

I once again met eyes with Nero. I had just told everyone that his color was blue, so I was the only one who knew it was such a unique shade, but Nero had definitely picked up on something.

“Is there any particular reason you joined our meeting?” I asked him. Hopefully this would distract him somewhat.

“Ah, that’s right,” Nero said, “We looked into what militant nations might have a reason to hate us and we discovered that Kalorvia has been drafting excessively recently.”

“Kalorvia?” Autumn asked, suddenly surprised.

“What is it?” I asked him.

“Hmm… It sounds familiar somehow. Does Kalorvia have a prince?” Autumn asked.

“Yes, but his sister is next in line to the throne,” Nero replied.

“I think I remember a scene with that prince,” Autumn confessed, “I think it was after Alvis was introduced as a capture target.”

“Wait, Alvis was a capture target?” I asked in shock.

“Oh, yeah, but only sort of,” Autumn said, “I don’t know much about his route, but the villain from Alvis’s route is the prince of Kalorvia.”

“Should we talk to Mickey?” I suggested, “Since Autumn remembered first it should be fine for her to give us more details, right?”

“Perhaps,” Alois agreed, “It won’t hurt to ask.”

“Since this is war, it might be a good time to use that,” Caleb suggested, and looked right at Keane.

“Ah, that’s true,” Keane agreed, “I can look into it while you question Mickey.”

“I am still surprised that Alvis is letting you hold onto that,” Caleb muttered.

“What?” I asked.

“The Records of Tethia,” Keane answered.

I stiffened. After everything had happened I had completely forgotten about it. “Isn’t that the artifact that was meant for the head of Medical research?” I asked.

“That’s right,” Keane confirmed, “but it can only look into the past and present. Still, Mickey might not be able to tell you much and since we have an actual target to ask about I might be able to find out something useful.”

“Good luck,” I told him, then turned to Alois, “Shall we go?”

“There is no reason to wait,” Alois agreed and opened a portal on the spot.
