《Spirits of Eternity(A cultivation story based on spirits)》Spirits of the World: Ch18

Liv carefully watched the King of Fire, who suddenly accelerated. She had a spirit fire a gust of wind at her, and propelled herself out of the way as the man smashed into the wall behind her. She sent a few wind blades screeching at the King, but he shrugged them off, completely ignoring the strikes. Liv's eyes narrowed. Wind was useless. If lightning worked, that meant he had some resistance against the element. Otherwise, it meant that he was simply this resistant to everything, and that would be bad. Liv Whispered to one of the few lightning spirits nearby, and it started charging. The King of Fire started stalking towards her, slowly walking with his blade held out to the side. Please charge faster, Liv thought, as the King got ever closer. He brought up his sword. Come on.
Liv sidestepped the first strike, but the sword stopped with impossible speed and precision, instantly shifting into a sideways slash Liv had to jump back to avoid, cornering herself further. She kept backing up. The King advanced, and suddenly Liv hit the wall behind her.
The King brought up his blade, swinging it down.
The spirit was not done yet.
Liv jumped to the side, kicking off the wall to get around him. The King swung again and again, creating a net of strokes chasing after Liv, but she barely escaped, getting back into the arena. The spirit finally charged, flying over to her. She Whispered a final command, stepping back.
A bolt of lightning materialized out of nowhere, crashing into the King of fire. He staggered, surprised but unharmed. So he was immune to everything. Liv stepped back. Maybe water would be more effective? She stepped into reach of one of the bigger water spirits in the air. Not requiring much charging, just a prodigious amount of energy, the water spirit summoned a huge geyser pointed at the King of fire.

Once again, it did nothing, all of the water turning to steam and dissipating. The King continued stalking forward. Liv stepped back, cornered against a wall once more. Wait. There was one last thing she could do. Her fingers found small cracks in the wall.
The King continued to stalk forward, slowly and surely, making sure she couldn't get past him this time. Then he raised his sword once more, and at the same moment he brought it down, Liv finished what she was doing. Liv sidestepped the blade, as usual, but the King didn't pull it across to hit her. He was looking up. The entire wall groaned, the top section starting to topple. A small amount of ice was visible at the place Liv had broken the wall.
Liv had toppled the wall by freezing water she shot within cracks, slowly destroying the wall's foundations and causing it to fall. The water had expanded as it froze, expanding the cracks along with it.
Liv started running, having a wind spirit cast a simple spell. She started running even faster, with the wind at her back and her feet almost not touching the ground, with how light she became. Liv ran away from the crumbling wall as the King of fire simply raised his sword. She grabbed a lightning spirit and started charging it. This would have to be perfect.
The wall melted as a sea of fire enveloped it. The King of fire turned around. "I'm not going to stab you anymore. I'm simply going to melt you and let your ashes lie here."
The lightning spirit finished charging. She waved to the King of fire, blowing him an unnecessary kiss as she rode a bolt of lightning away from the scene.
The lightning took an instant to use all its energy, as it took an instant to move a large distance, and Liv immediately charged the spirit again, traveling even farther away.

As she landed, Liv took big breaths of air, letting her body calm down as the now-familiar sensation of her pool expanding filled her again. She was in a forest, in a small clearing with only a large rock within. Sitting on the rock, she looked upwards, at the sun shining above. Next time, the King would be prepared for this. She would have to think of something else, if he didn't simply kill her on the spot. The easiest thing would be able to defeat him, but to do that, Liv estimated that she needed to at least learn to Call.
This probably wouldn't be very easy, but it was best to start now.
Liv laid down, looking at the sky. Calling was finding a spirit in another dimension or location, and bringing it to your area. Once you learned to Call, you could supposedly also cast two Whispers at once, and possibly even combine them with a Call. Calls could also merge spirits, making something new out of them. Liv opened her mouth, then realized she didn't know where to start. She looked at the spirits in the air. Wind, water, and a few lightning spirits flourished, and she grabbed a spirit of wind and a spirit of water. Liv asked them to combine, nicely, but they simply responded with confusion. They couldn't do it without a specific manifestation of energy. Which they didn't know how to make.
Liv released them again. It would come with time. There was no way to rush this, so there would be no reason to try to. She stepped off the rock, setting off through the trees. There was no telling where she was, so the only way to know would be to find a settlement. The King was still chasing her, and that would be a major problem for her, unless there was some way she could deal with him using Vivian's help, though she didn't know exactly how to open the link to such an extent as to share power again. Liv sighed, walking beneath the trees. These were problems she would let go of, for the moment. There were definitely going to be new problems soon, so she couldn't be bothered with these ones. Liv watched the forest as she walked, the forest around her staring back.

Between the trio's optimistic yet naive ideals, and the SPS's tried-and-true surgical methods, determining the answer which methods can better humanity is a struggle that both parties must resolve in their own ways... Welcome to the 7th revision of my 10+ years ongoing novel trilogy. This revision took out some flawed plot concepts to re-introduce a more down-to-earth, film noir-like ambience, where a battle of wits is what will determine the outcome. It also added instead more in-depth expansion into the lives and mindsets of the characters, especially the heroes (a missing factor in older versions). Third-view limited storytelling was also introduced more prominently over my favoured third-view omnipotent, with each chapters concentrating as much as possible on a single character's point of view instead of head-hopping. So I shall begin uploading the chapters as I finish them; they're edited as much as I can, but there'll most likely be some typos and mistakes. As always, I welcome your comments and critiques, and I hope you enjoy reading that story as much as I did creating it! A parting poem to introduce the story (translated from its original French version): Credit: Les Mots, Mylene Farmer & Seal Firmly, the sky writhes When a mouth begets a death There, I will give my life to hear you To tell you the most tender words When all becomes all alone I'll break my life for a song And to lives that stoop to notice mine I know I will say goodbye But a fraction of this life I would give anything, anytime The universe has its mysteries Words are our lives You could kill a life with words Soul, how would it feel? If our lives are so fragile Words are mysteries Words of feelings Words of love, a temple If one swept the world away One could touch the universe I will tell you how the sun rose high We could with a word become one And for all those words that hurts us There are those that touches us Which illuminates, touches the infinity Even if nothingness exists For a fraction on this life We will give anything, anytime The universe has its mysteries Words are our lives We could kill a life with words Soul, how would it feel? If our lives are so fragile Words are mysteries Words of feelings Words of love, a temple
