《The Lost Characters [Vanilla Dark Fantasy]》072-The monk

Adam continued down the marble stairs to the middle 1 floor and headed for the cave. He was a little nervous and walked quickly through the corridors, trying not to make people look into his eyes.

When he got to the corridor, Adam finally calmed down, to his surprise the old man didn't come out to greet him like he always did every day since he got the book with human skin; to the point that it seemed that insistence was the new greeting of the old eyeless man.

Since he wouldn't come out, Adam took one of the books from him; it was the old method, and he hadn't used it for a long time.

The eyeless old man's head stood cautiously, waiting for a while, and he asked:

—Are you going to read it? Or just look at me like I owe you something?

—I just want to go to my house—Adam yelled annoyed, apparently he hadn't solved anything about the mask, the bookshelf kept insisting that he read the book.

But before the old man with eyes could speak, a head emerged from the neighboring bookshelf. Adam was surprised, in so many years this was the first time he had seen the neighbor of the old man without eyes, his head had a monk's cut (also known as a tonsure) and he had a full face, quite a rare thing for the bookshelves, when formed said:

—Oh, big-hearted brother, don't trust that eyeless old man, his heart is as rotten as the boards that make up his shelves.

Adam didn't know that the bookshelves could sabotage each other in this way, he had never told the eyeless old man that he knew the effect of the book, so he was somewhat impatient to see what the old man would do.

The eyeless old man in a bitter voice said:

—If you fail, I will turn you into one of my mushrooms, but you only have to answer one of my questions, and you will read my magical books.

Adam stared at the eyeless old man without understanding why he was telling him about his period.

—It's the boy who lives in the cave, you useless old man!—The monk yelled at him angrily.

—Adam?—Eyes popped up from the old man's face and stared at Adam for a few minutes, as if he wanted to find fault with the stranger's trick.

—Are you going to let me in?—Adam asked impatiently.

—No, you can't come in—Answered the old man looking at Adam with suspicion—He said Yes... Yes you can come in, a surprise, but you haven't read any magic book.

—It's me, old man, of course I didn't read anything—Answered Adam annoyed.

—Adam?— Said the old man, looking Adam up and down— Did the baron's booklet houses burn down and did you jump into the fire to save them? Or what happened?

—I'm telling you what happened...—Adam replied—If you tell me the effect of the first magic book I made, you win.

—Come in—answered the eyeless old man, opening the door. He seemed not to want to argue in front of the monk.

Adam proceeded to enter, but before he could enter the monk mentioned in a harmonic voice:

—The book the eyeless old man is trying to get you to read looks bad, and when it looks bad, it's a bad read.

Saying the words, the monk sank back into the wood. Adam was surprised, that was a piece of advice he didn't know, he thanked the monk's bookshelf and entered the cave.
