《The Lost Characters [Vanilla Dark Fantasy]》052-They grew...

Adam with steps accelerated by emotion arrived at the classroom, on the way he greeted the rest of the teachers with great happiness. Librarians didn't have that custom, but Adam liked to do it and watch his stunned reactions as they took a few seconds to wave back. Don't ask why only the boy knew, but that amused him.
The old classroom was as normal and empty as ever, Franco and Bianca were arguing about something when they saw Adam come in, the teacher didn't seem to be there.
—Do we have special classes?—Adam asked excitedly.
—I have no idea, I don't care —Bianca answered sharply, destroying Adam's emotion.
—It's just going to be another kind of shit—Franco added, lying lazily on his desk—Like all the others, I just want to get out of this apartment once and for all and go home...
Yes, the boys had grown... but Adam hadn't... That was one of the big problems of living in a cave surrounded by mushrooms with an old bookshelf and a godfather who only cared about matters of life and death.
Somewhat depressed by the lack of emotion, Adam sat at his desk to wait, but it seemed that the teacher was not coming, so he began to study for a while. Franco saw him as if he were a retard for studying so much, and asked:
—Don't you rest, Adam?
—Yes, but I hate to rest—Adam replied, thinking about the chase of Booklets carried on the 5th floor every day
—You could come with us upstairs—Franco answered, looking at Adam with a bit of laziness due to the long wait—You always spend your time studying, you should relax a bit, friend.
—Maybe another day—Adam answered, according to his godfather, if he went to play with his friends upstairs the white wooden shelves would kill him for having rested. This over time was causing Adam to isolate himself from the group of classmates.

—At this rate, that 'another day' will be when we give the reading to receive the black robe— Bianca answered wryly looking at Adam studying—By the way, haven't you noticed Professor Achilles a little more erratic lately?
—Yes, that thing on his head is going to end up killing him—Franco answered with irony and some coldness.
—Do you think he grows so much?—Adam asked somewhat concerned, he loved his teacher very much, but he had also been noticing something strange lately.
—He's getting older every day, sometimes he talks on his own—Bianca replied with some fear—He always says stupid things, it's almost as if the thing in his head is trying to annoy us.
—Yes, at this rate they're going to end up throwing him to the lower floors— Franco added with some contempt— Those things happen to him for having taken a magical book lightly, you had terrible luck, Adam.
Adam was quite worried, he knew what the lower floors were like, he didn't want to see his teacher on those floors, but his friends weren't lying, the teacher had been in quite a bad way lately, the head on his forehead now occupied a good portion of his face, if it continued to grow it would leave him blind.
—It's going to get better…—Adam commented, trying to calm his nerves a bit.
—If not, we'll have to go to another teacher—Bianca added, annoyed by the situation.

Someday, he’ll find where his family went. Someday, he’ll uphold his end of the bargain and hunt beings powerful beyond anything he’s ever known. Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent
