Adam was going to the door of the stairs of hexagon 3 to go to the cave to rest, but when he reached the stairs, he was surprised because the entrance of the stairs was covered by a giant head.
The head was made of marble and seemed to resemble an adult with a scar on his face, he had a hat cone and a party whistle in his mouth. The marble head looked at Adam and said in a military voice:
—If you go out my stairs, you're not allowed in until the next day!
—Why? Are there rules for using the stairs?—Adam asked with some fear produced by the look of the giant marble head.
—Everything has rules!—Marble head answered with his military tone—But on days when an ascension takes place, my rules are absolute: Only the people who are on this floor will enjoy the ascension party!
—I already enjoyed the party, can I go home?— Adam asked, just in case, he wanted explicit confirmation that nothing would happen to him if he went downstairs.
—Yes, good night, young man—replied the marble head, opening his mouth showing the spiral stairs.
Adam started a while longer, just in case he asked his godfather, he would be young, but getting into the mouth of a giant head caused anyone to doubt. His godfather gave the go-ahead and Adam proceeded to enter the mouth of the giant head and head to his apartment.
Luckily nothing bad happened to Adam, on the way he realized that all the entrances were covered by the giant head until he reached the first floor of the middle level, when he arrived he touched the stone wall and the mouth returned to open up
As he left, some guards looked at Adam curiously, but didn't ask anything, so Adam continued on his way until he reached the old wooden shelf with moss and fungus. When Adam arrived, he shouted:

—Old man, it's me, you open me up!
The eyeless old man's head came out of the shelf, but he didn't open it and instead asked:
—Don't you notice something different?
Adam looked to the sides of the corridors, but nothing was coming and everything was the same. The eyeless old man, seeing the redhead searching the corridors, added proudly:
—Don't you notice anything new on my shelves?
Adam looked at the shelves of the old man without eyes, just then he noticed that there seemed to be one more book on his shelves, since the old man without eyes had magical books that were easy to differentiate from each other. Adam picked up the book and realized that it was identical to the one in his hand.
—You duplicated it: can you duplicate books?—Adam asked.
—No, but if the hero of the cave gets one, I get one too—the eyeless old man added proudly. Each book was like a son to him, and now he had another one that would help him catch unsuspecting librarians—He congratulated your hero, but remember not to read it until you decide not to come back!
—Is that why you let me live in the cave?—Adam asked, putting the book back in its place.
—In principle, the cave was always a refuge, not a staircase—answered the old man without eyes—but since your father couldn't enter, you had no other option but to live outside.
Adam didn't say anything, since he knew from the first day that his father had read a magical book, for which he was never able to accompany him to the upper floors. But his head spoke again, interrupting his thoughts:
—There was an ascension: you should be careful the next few days.
—Why? What's not good?—Adam asked with concern.

—Yes, it's good for everyone, both librarians and bookshelves—answered the eyeless old man with great envy.
The old man looked seriously at the young redhead and added:
—Whenever there is an ascension: the bookshelves fight, the librarians disappear or kill each other, and the other creatures take advantage of the chaos. Beware of creatures drawn to the greed of librarians and bookshelves!
Adam freaked out at the warning, but luckily he didn't have to go to class tomorrow because of the special class, so he would have a little more time to see if there was anything abnormal on the 4th floor.

Mana Soul
Like many others across the multiverse, Markus was chosen as this world's hero to fight against the steadily approaching cataclysm. Only, something went horribly wrong. Left with only a handful of memories, Markus has spent years clawing his way up from poverty and officially registered as an adventurer to try and make his fortune. Unfortunately, Artificers are the least combat-capable class of the four classes, and Markus has no connections to join an established party. With the fate of countless worlds hanging in the balance, a chance meeting will determine the course of a war nearly as old as reality itself. Warning: Markus has trauma induced amnesia and will occasionally 'act out of character' or make 'poorly thought out' decisions. These events are rather obvously telegraphed abd represent conflicts between his current personality and the one repressed alongside his trauma. Just something to bear in mind. The story will bounce predominantly back and forth between the primary protagonists every couple of chapters. The time stream is linear, so events are not revisted/rehashed/retold through the narrative format. Characters may comment on something that has occurred, but that's different. Just giving a heads up.Chapters will be around 7-9k and updated 1/week on the same schedule as my other story Ogre Tyrant over the weekend.[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
