《Risky Sailing》Chapter sixteen: Big Treasure.

Two weeks passed quickly and Gabe stood right back at the Apprentice field in the Stadium. The crowd on the field was much less today, just over five or six hundred competitors. This was all that was left of the over Five thousand apprentice realms who had signed up. The apprentice Realm was actually one of the smallest groups in the Competition as the two realms above, Champion and master were the more common Realms in the city. Each of those had at least thirty five thousand Competing Channelers. But their numbers had been dwindled over the last two weeks to just a fraction of that. Today would be the same routine as before, those who collected Ten red bands would move on, and those who lost a fight would be escorted to the exit. This would bring the number down to the final Fifty that would fight in the finals, and the top twenty five of those would get a prize. Gabe knew he would make it after defeating Mathew, and had no worries even as he was challenged by a level eight Apprentice right at the beginning. The short stocky man was rippling with mussels and immediately summoned his Soul-Beast which was a Burning Mutt. Gabe had to laugh at that, the burning mutt was a very weak Tyke realm Beast, and the offspring of the hell hound. This man looked young, but he must have been around middle age to have made it so far with such a small Beast. The man immediately got mad at him for laughing and charged to attack. Gabe didn't even summon one of his own beasts, he just called up his Life force suckling faces and had them slowly drain the man as he used his increased speed to avoid any attacks. "Cow...ward." The man said between heavy breaths as he fell on his face just five minutes of chasing later and passed out. Gabe was getting much more deadly with this commonly known move. It was a good thing that it was hard to learn for most Channelers though, Gabe really would hate to run into someone else who knew it.

One fight after the other Gabe defeated his foe, being Careful not to use his Soul-Beasts. As he could see several high realm Channelers in the stands around the field who hadn't been there the day before. And he knew they would be looking for him, the Channeler with two Soul-Beasts. His last fight was with a Level ten Apprentice who knew absolutely no moves. Her poor garments and week Soul-Beast meant she was from the slums of the city. The only thing she did was summon her Blood Suckling. An Imp with four large fangs hanging out of its mouth, and a Dark hairy slumped over body. Then she commenced attacking with just her bare fists and brute strength. She fought like she was on the street, and was utterly shocked when Gabe a level one of her realm turned out to be stronger then her. He grabbed her arms and used his Life force sucking move until she passed out. It was a shame that many Channelers were like this, they had no backing, money, or help so all they could do was cultivate slowly with the lowest beats on the market and prey for a break. Gabe was a bit ashamed at how easy it had been to ruin that break for someone, and his ears were ringing from her shouts and screams as he did so. But she had been the one to challenge him and he could only accept or forfeit this whole competition. Anyways it was a bit dishonest of her to challenge a level one at her level in the first place.

As Gabe left with all ten bands needed to get another green band he noticed a group of people hovering in the open sky above. They were to far away to Recognize but he had the gut feeling they were watching him, they must know he was the talent with the two soul beats. He left the stadium with instructions to return only a week later for the final round. There would be a whole crowd watching this one, and he would only have to fight half as many this time to win instead of the usual Ten. after receiving another green band he took off to lose the watchers in the sky. He now had two on his arm, and walked down the street smiling but cautious. He didn't know if he was being followed or not, or watched from the sky anymore as the Hovering Channelers weren't viable, but that didn't mean they were gone. He didn't hesitate for a second however and turned the opposite direction of the inn he'd been staying at. For this occasion he decided it was better to find another place to stay, away from his servant and possessions, he could use the same method he used last time to lose trackers but he didn’t want to over use the same escape techniques, he would do that again when he wanted to get back to Colin. Right now his Space pouch was almost empty his Giant's tear was hidden in a sealed box with Colin, to keep it hidden from so many prying eyes at the stadium. And he really didn’t need to be home yet. The people in the sky would likely only want to see where he lived so they could keep an eye on him. If they wanted to do more than that then he would handle it as it went.

Gabe stepped into a much finer inn than the one he called home, this one near one of the city markets. It was a bit more pricey then where Colin was staying but he only planed to stay here for a week. And he'd made some good money selling the Shrinking knife Burnlock had given him, it had been useful for a while but he needed the money, he’d actually sold almost all of his stock now in Preparation for leaving the city. Most of it would be useless where he was going anyway. And after upgrading most of it with his Perfect spirit energy he had made quite a bundle. He walked up to the room he'd already paid for and began his meditation, ignoring the luxury atmosphere. Where he grew up this small room was nothing, the Hellvine family has built more than one hotel out of solid gold just to show off to their enemies, and Gabe had gotten to stay in those hotels for free as a high born member of the family. The only thing here that made him smile were the Tiny intricate runes that were drawn on the door and windows, and would alert him if someone who wasn't under a powerful cloaking technique entered. His family hotels didn’t have anything like this. just their name alone was enough to keep their gusts safe. No’one would offend the Hellvine family if it was possible to avoid it.

Up in the sky Matthew and two of his Family Guards watched the Mysterious talented Channeler named Gabe with patient eyes. The two Guards were Greenwood family Acolytes, sworn to loyalty by spirit contract And incredibly powerful. Each was an Ancestor Realm Channeler and they both had been given the same mission as Matthew. To find who, or what the Golden-Chaos family was searching for in this region. The Golden-Chaos family house had held over fifty Channeler tests in Fifty different Farming cities in the last three years. And They had sent some of their most powerful Channelers Secretly with these competitions and gone to great lengths to make it all look innocent. But the Greenwood family was discovering very peculiar things about these Tests. The first was just how many they were holding. No family had the resources to house, raise, and train an infinite amount of Acolytes, not when they also had to take care of their own family's needs. The average Family house only held one Test a year at most. The second thing The Greenwood family learned about these Competitions was the most fishy, some of these tests were being held in cities that had already been tested by another family house less then two years ago. This was not done by anyone, as all the powerful and talented Channelers would have already been cleaned out by the previous test. And there was no pride in getting the castaways that were left over by others, at most you could only get the second best acolytes, you would fall behind the other families like that. The third and last thing was that they were searching the city. The Greenwood family had sent some of it's strongest Spies to watch the cities that were being tested and found that Powerful Totem realm Channelers were sweeping the city with High grade Special Treasures looking for something. This more than enough to prove that something was going on.

Matthew was well renowned in this region for his Battle lust. He was known to go to cities being tested just to look for worthy opponents to fight. This was why he was sent on the mission here, to explain the presence of some of his family's Acolytes. There were three cities being tested by the Golden-Chaos family at this very moment, and their powerful spies were busy handling the other two. And from the start Matthew had been Wondering if this Channeler he had invited to his home wasn't exactly what the Golden-Chaos family was searching for. Why he thought that wasn’t because of Gabe’s potential as a dual element Channeler, but because He got the feeling That Gabe was much more then he was revealing himself to be. He had been so fast, and so strong for his level that even His clear lack of Martial skill didn't make him an easy foe, and he'd pulled out his second Element only when he had to. Most would have begun with their most powerful move to finish the fight quick and make a name for themselves but he was trying to hide it. Which begged the question, what else was he hiding? And the Purple stripe down Both his Soul-Beasts backs? It was unnatural, and could only mean that there was something different about them both. Which by the way they seamed so impossibly strong for his level, almost certainly meant they had been strengthened. If Matthew's conclusion was true then this could very well be what the Golden-Chaos family was looking for. Because Soul-Beast strengthening treasures were Heavenly Treasures. And entire families would start wars to get them. Maybe Gabe had found the treasure before the Golden-Chaos family, or maybe they knew he had more. It was only a guess but at the moment it was the best clue they had and must be followed because of it. Matthew didn’t tell his Family or guards but There was also the way Gabe seamed as he talked, and his aura, he gave Matthew this deep stomach feeling that he would one day be someone incredible, someone no’one could talk down to. it was what attracted Matthew’s attention so much. And why he wanted to make a connection with him while he could. This feeling made him think of his family’s legends, about the Greenwood family being fortune tellers long ago before this age. Using no martial power just their innate instincts. Because of those stories he always trusted his gut on matters like these. And went to lengths no’one else would go.

Matthew had watched Gabe fight and made sure to follow him home. But was disappointed to find that the Golden-Chaos family hadn't shown any interest in him also. With their searching Treasures they would have certainly been able to unguise him if he was what they were looking for, especially with several of them watching the tests. It seamed they had something else to look for, but it didn't mean they wouldn't be interested in Gabe when he revealed himself in the Final tests next week. Matthew wasn't worried about that however, he'd made sure already that his Family's advisory wouldn't get such a powerful Acolyte. He didn't have the authority to sign an Acolyte and nether did the guards with him, in his family you had to be an Elder to Sign a new Acolyte. But he did have the authority to invite a guest into his family's house, since this was the privilege of the Apprentice Wonderkind. And once the Channeler was there, an elder could offer him a Contract that he couldn't refuse. He'd already contacted his family on this, even before he offered the invite, while the healers had taken him away. They couldn't send an Elder to the farming city or they would draw attention to their investigation of the Golden-Chaos family's actions. So he'd suggested this method and they had agreed, even if Gabe didn’t become theirs at least he wouldn’t join the opposition ether. Matthew and his guards moved on after marking down where Gabe was staying, which was a nice hotel near a market. They still needed to watch the Golden-Chaos family's search, but Matthew also had a feeling that if what they were looking for wasn't Gabe, then it wasn't in the city. It must be somewhere else.

Half a million miles away inside the largest mansion inside the largest Golden-Chaos family city, inside the darkest room of the house, a Tall thin Grey haired man sat at his desk. Though he was grayed and old, Oren was very powerful. A requirement to be the head of the Golden-Chaos family. His face showed deep wrinkles and his lose fitting robes were gold with black stripes down each arm. Oren was a first level Deity Realm Channeler, the strongest in his family. Only the Acolytes sworn to service for over a thousand years after their peak were more powerful. The Deity realm was the Highest Realm a channeler could acquire on Primeway. And level one was the furthest they could go. As the shear amount of energy and purity it took to go any higher could take upwards of a million years to cultivate. Oren had finally Broken through to the Deity realm only three years ago, and had planned to ascend into the Darkstar Sun where his ancestors would great him and he would be able to cultivate with the highest quality Treasures and spirit energy. But days before he left and assigned a new Heir, a message came from the Great Saldid. Saldid was a Member of the Golden-Chaos family who had long ago ascended into the sun even before Oren was born three hundred thousand years ago. The message ruined everything they believed in. It spoke of war! Destruction! The higher realms in flames from one side of the heavens to the other. what was Believed to be a Paradise above was described as a hell of unfathomable power. The message was a warning, a Heavenly Law breaking Heads up about what was coming.

The darkness and war that transpired in the heavens was not stopping, and would not stop even at the Sun Gates. Though it was hard to believe, the message itself was proof that the sun gates were not as closed as they once were. There was little that could be done, but Saldid hopped that his warning might somehow help his family save themselves. The Golden-Chaos family had immediately begun a search for something that could protect them. And Oren's plans for ascension were dashed. They found something in the Family's Library, a time capsule of journals and books from millions of millennia ago. One of the books, over six hundred million years old spoke of an S grade Heavenly treasure that could create a Treasure land inside a Spacial bubble. S Grade Heavenly Treasures were the most powerful things to ever exist on Primeway, and most had been lost in great battles over them or by Dying Family houses hiding them away so their enemies would never discover them. Some were kept as Last resort weapons by the most powerful Families, and the Golden-Chaos family had one themselves. Stolen millennia ago from a weaker Family who stumbled upon it by accident. It was a sword with a mind of its own, that when activated would go to battle for its Wielder and decimate an entire army of the Avatar real, and easily defeat a low talent Deity Realm if it had to. The sword could only fight so long though, and had to lay dormant for years before it had enough power to fight again.

But they knew that if even the Ascended were losing to this Apocalypse past the sun gates then S grade Heavenly treasures would be useless to stop it. Unless they weren't trying to stop it, only hide from it. If this Heavenly treasure could truly turn a Spacial bubble into a treasure land then they could use it inside of one and seal the bubble for eternity. Sealed special Bubbles were a death sentence for any Channeler as they would be cut off from the Spirit energy that kept them all alive, but if this treasure could truly produce enough spirit energy to make a Treasure land then it could keep them alive forever inside a land no’one could enter. They sought anything they could find about the treasure and learned through a fluke Discovery of a preserved journal that it was buried by a Dying Family house in a Farming city. And thus their search began, but they had to hide it. Or another family could discover what they were looking for and destroy all hope of survival for everyone.

"We've swept exactly Fifty six cities, all but a few have been old enough to match the given time of date." The Golden-Chaos family's High elder Cheney said sitting across the black wooden desk from Oren. Oren slammed his fist on the desk. "Dam it! at this rate we might as well not look at all! Don't we have enough Resources for another search team?" Cheney flipped through some papers on his lap, after two million years of living on primeway his memory just wasn't up to keeping all the numbers he needed to remember. But he knew exactly what he needed to keep written down. "It will take us about five more years to create another searching device, we could buy one but then we would be tipping the other families off to what we are doing. And we have gained the suspicion of more then a handful of families already, one of which is actively investigating us." Oren let out a breath. "The Greenwood family I assume?" Cheney just nodded. "But we have acquired a new clue into where this Treasure might be." Oren nearly jumped out of his seat at that news. "Why didn't you lead with that?! This is good news, what is it?!" Cheney was old, the oldest in his family. He'd seen ages that had long passed and defeated foes that were many times stronger then he. His body was still young though, only middle age. But his eyes shown with ancient wisdom. He'd long ago reached the Block of his life in his cultivation, and even with so much time he was yet to find anything that could free up his Channeling. He'd spent countless fortunes on powerful High grade Treasures through the centuries, but it seamed he was stuck at the Avatar Realm. What he'd once considered his misfortune however had recently changed into his salvation, as had he passed the Avatar realm long ago he would have ascended and died with the rest of those in the Heavenly realms as the message had said. He was patient enough to save the best for last and smiled at his younger counterpart, who was also fortunate not to have ascended. "We have found the log of an old scholar who lived in some city to the east. This man was a witness to the Treasure's hiding. But the name and location of the city are unreadable. Still it proves our first account was right and that we aren't looking for a myth, and that the object might be more to the east of the region." Oren's first reaction settled quickly, he'd been hoping for something better. "That still leaves more cities to search then we can handle, who knows how much time we have. From the message it could be coming any day now." Cheney just sat there peacefully his younger friend was quite hot headed for a Family head but Cheney Knew from experience that time would fix that. "Or it could be a thousand years from now." Cheney stated. Oren waved him off with clenched teeth. "It may very well take us a thousand years to find this thing."
