《Risky Sailing》Chapter twelve: The pill

Gabe woke just four hours later. He didn't need much sleep now that he was on the brink of the Apprentice realm. He was out the door the minute he stood up. their Room at the inn was paid for six days in advance still, so he didn't have to worry about that for a while. Even though he had no money left, he still had a few junk treasures he could power up and pawn. Gabe headed towards the city gate, at a pace that told everyone he was in a hurry. Which attracted the attention of some low level thugs. Gabe however wasn't in the mood to bother with them today so he stepped into the crowded street and did his best to lose them. He failed, when he came near the city gate he decided he would lead them out there and deal with them where it was legal. He stepped through the hole in the wall with all the runes and came out into the westward dark woods. The gang followed and immediately attacked him, they didn't have to hide it outside the city as the laws only took affect inside city walls and none was here to watch anyway. Most of the five were just a few levels beneath Gabe, and the others were six or seven levels below. Of course they thought they had the advantage as Gabe's mark still claimed he was an Embryo. And as far as he could tell he felt that way to everyone. He'd never been more annoyed with it right this moment however as he was in a hurry to find out if all that hard work and time had paid off. Gabe summoned his Rotting flesh Boar, and the attackers were suddenly all thrown back. He told the Boar to kill them all and it started rampaging, stomping one and kicking another. Three died within the span of a single breath. One of the stronger ones got wise quick and ducked around the boar grabbing Gabe's pouch and tacking off into the wilderness. Gabe cursed. he hadn't summoned more then one beast because he was always careful in case he was being watched. But it looked like he should have. As His boar Finished up with the dying thugs Gabe ran after the Thief, but the man was dodging tress and jumping logs like he knew where he was headed. Gabe might be able to catch up given time as he could run a little faster, but he didn't want to risk losing the Bastard. While he ran passed trees at a super speed rate he summoned his Nexus Wasp. The wasp instantly took up above his head and zoomed past him. Catching up to the thief quickly, it put it's long razor sharp stinger forward and skewered the weaker opponent through the Back. Gabe slowed to a jog as he walked up to the scene. Blood splatter was everywhere and the wasp was just beginning to pull it's barbed stinger out of the man rending flesh inside his stomach and making him groan in bright pain. His legs twitched and his hands were clasped in fists. Gabe felt his stomach curl at the looks of it as the wasp removed it's sting and the Bloody hole that went straight through the man pooled over his clothing in puddles. The thug looked up at him in pain with blood gurgling up in his mouth, he was clearly not very tolerant for pain as his face was twisted in agony. Gabe heard the silent plea and quickly stomped hard on the man's neck. His strength, which was levels above these weak men snapped the man like a twig and he went still. Gabe quickly grabbed his pouch from the dead man’s grasp and took off running into the wilderness to be alone.

Standing half a mile away from the city and using his Death Enslaving ability A Pus eating lizard was taken under his control. it was a stage five Tyke Realm, and stood about three feet high and five foot long. It was fully under Gabriel's control and when he placed one of the pills into its mouth it swallowed as he commanded it to. Gabe sat down leaning his back against a tree. He wasn't safe here anyone could attack him out here, but he didn't want to take the Lizard back into the city with him. And he didn’t want anyone to see what he was doing. He stared at the creature waiting. After about fifteen minutes of the two just staring at eachother, Gabe began to wounder if the pill was powerless. He sighed. "well at least it wasn’t poisonous." He thought, if it hadn't killed the lizard then it wouldn't kill him he thought. Then suddenly the lizard keeled over. Falling on its side with its white colored belly exposed Gabe cursed. Until he saw it breathing. He looked closely and a glow began to emanate from the Beast. The purple Glow grew brighter and brighter until it burst bright white making Gabe look away for a second. When he looked back the Lizard was bigger, a lot bigger. Almost twice it's original size. And it's teeth were sharper. Fortunately it was still under his control. But it felt strange when he looked at it with his soul sense. Almost like it wasn't the same species anymore. A purple stripe down its back marked it now, and it looked like it's scales had turned a glossy color.
Gabe grinned, and pumped his fist. "Rissssk!" He hissed. "And reward!" He stood up with a giddy stomach he knew he had a good feeling about this. And he pulled out the other pill. "Wait! Shouldn't you give it a couple of days?" Sisfar asked, but Gabe didn't even pause. He swallowed the pill and waited. If this pill had done such amazing things to the Lizard then he wondered what it would do for him. At the very least it would increase his bodily toughness, as he'd thrown the Alchemist Ball in the batch. And it might increase his size as well. Hopefully he wouldn't gain a purple stripe down his back. But he was willing to risk it for the power this thing could give him. He could tell that the lizard had increased in strength. Sisfar spoke up with annoyance in his tone. “kid, beasts and humans have very different reactions to the same materials. This monster might not have died from the pill but that doesn’t mean you wont.” Gabe laughed. “Sisfar how would there be any recipes for alchemy if someone didn’t take a risk to test them? How would blacksmiths make anything of value if they froze at the thought of danger And only made safe farming tools. Primeway is not a world for the weak, or a world for the Meek. I have been given a new chance at life because I took a risk. And now that I have that chance I will not turn my back on what it took to get me here. I will continue until my path finishes. And regard no man or rule that I don’t choose to regard.” For another fifteen minutes Gabe felt something faint starting inside him, but it wasn't coming from his body, it was coming from his soul. Or his soul room to be precise. He projected his soul into his mark and was immediately hit with bright lights. Ten Shining purple balls replaced his soul-beasts, and he turned away just in time as a flash of solid white exploded in the pitch black room almost searing his spirit eyes. When Gabe turned back to his soul beasts he found something unbelievable. His jaw dropped and he didn't even bother to pick it back up. All of his soul beasts had increased in size, power, and strength, his Rotting flesh Boar who had been on the cusp of his next realm was now a Black death Boar meaning somehow its blood had become more pure and closer to it’s ancestor. It's solid black body glossy and with an unnatural Purple stripe down the back. In fact all of Gabe’s beasts now had that same Purple stripe down their back except Sisfar. Who had grown to the size of a bear. His hunted ship's gray cloud turning into a purple one. "Holy.... h.." Gabe couldn't really say anything. He'd just found a beast increasing pill. A rare Heavenly treasure. And he could.... make more. His beasts were all changed however, and felt off somehow just like the lizard. More dark, but also more powerful. Sisfar was speechless. What he'd just witnessed couldn't be put into words. Who was this kid? Why did the Heaven's favor him so much? Such a pill from such meager means and a strange red plant… in all of his tens of thousands of years on primeway Sisfar had not found or seen one Beast increasing pill. That is to say until today when he’d seen two… one of which was causally fed to a useless monster in the woods.

The first thing Gabe did after this revelation of what the pill could do was head straight to the spot where he'd blown up that Gold fairy dust grenade. The black ashy spot was beginning to grow back again. Gabe hunted it over. Searching, looking. But found Nothing. He looked around the blast area a mile in each direction. Spending an entire day looking but the red plants were nowhere to be seen. After an hour of running and searching he felt like he was in danger of running into another stranger out here and ran back to the city, He went back to the inn in a stopper. Had he really just found a way to make Soul-Beast enhancement pills. He found a piece of paper on the desk and wrote down everything he did verbatim. Naming the Red plant inferno Leaf on the recipe And the pill Inferno spectrum. When he finished he folded it neatly and stored it in his pouch. If anyone knew he had a recipe for this they would fight him tooth and nail for it. In fact this single piece of paper and one of those red plants could start a House war between dozens of near by families. The price he could get for just one of those pills alone was more then this city was worth. But if he sold them people would know... and if people knew then there would be nowhere he could hide. They'd think he had more. Even if he ran out. This was a secret not even Colin could know for now.

The Supernormal
In a world where fantasy has become everyday, one man stands against absurdity. The local Tower stomps through the streets. Any hedge could contain a witch. Walls regularly crumble, though none more often than the fourth. In the magical city of Blackpool, all ridiculousness is possible, and it takes everything for Jack Of All Trades to survive. Badly, at that. Perpetually late with his rent, he'll take up arms for any paying customer in order to fulfill his quest. His obstacles include polka-loving ghosts, card-game playing vampires, and the most vicious monsters of all: copyright lawyers. When he's joined by an arrogant magus and an insecure vampire, his life gets even more complicated, but no matter what kind of infuriating choose-your-own-adventure he finds himself on, one constant remains—his rent is due at the end of the month. On second thoughts, maybe he should stay in bed. The Supernormal isn't your average web-novel. It's an urban fantasy parody that saunters through a world full of the absurd, delighting in poking fun at popular media, widely-accepted ideas, and often itself. Story arcs only loosely connect through the characters, who are themselves slowly fleshed out as the story continues. Think of Discworld meets The Dresden Files meets Gintama. This novel won't be for everyone, but if it is for you, you're in for a hell of a ride.

Clearly, there must be some dark secret behind the success of these newcomers, and it’s up to the city’s true artists to find out what it is and expose the conspiracy!
