《The Gods' Decree》Chapter 64 - Elixir

" What tha....?"
They were both in shock at the face that they saw greeting them. There in his merchant clothes was someone Taf new quite well.
" Mr Lou...!"
They both exclaimed at the same time. May was also familiar with this person as she had often seen him selling his products from his store.
" How on earth could it be him behind that mask. "
Taf thought as he looked on the face just in case he was mistaken.
" Something...something is not quite adding up"
He thought for a bit and remembered something that the masked man had uttered before his identity was revealed.
" Before you said..."
" He would rather not wear it..."
After hearing Taf's statement, May also thought about it and also had to agree that something fishy was going on.
" He's being controlled..."
" There is no other explanation but that"
She uttered after the realization dawned on her.
" Yes...i tend to agree"
" What's going on...
"why do you have Mr Lou? He is only a merchant in Marvel City."
Taf went straight to the point asking the question he felt he needed to.
" Surprised...?"
" Well let's just say he is just a matter of convenience of sorts"
" Initially he wouldn't have been an ideal choice for me but at the time I was... well out of options"
" Then I stumbled on this greedy little fellow within a cave of mine a few years ago."
" After scanning his mind for a second, i realize why he was in my cave"
"Turns out he was using and selling some elixir within your mortal city. His main ingredient was from an underground stream that was contaminated by my influence"
" So I thought... since I've bestowed him with some blessings...
Well, he would give me this feeble body in return for a bit. Though not a choice of worth on this lower plane. I made do with what I had and his body is not so bad after all"

The possessed Mr Lou slowly spoke without any inkling of remorse in his speech
"....lower plane?"
Taf seemingly had only ears for those two words. Sure he was slightly concern about Mr Lou, he was normally a kind-hearted person to him in his younger years. However, he was sure that could be resolved in the future.
" Yes lower plane"
His question was met by a response from Mr Lou.
" You are him...aren't you"
Taf had his suspicions but that statement confirmed it and turned it into a definite possibility.
" Hehe..., I like you kid..."
A laugh was heard coming from Mr Lou as he sat in his chair answering the couple's questions.
To the chair next to Taf, May became lost for the moment after hearing their small dialogue.
" Who Taf..?"
Her curiosity became peaked as she searched for the answer.
" The demigod..... Alestar"
" Or should I say...Draconian"
His statement was given as an answer to May, as well as a question to the man that continually sat with ease at the chair.
" Hmmmm.., seeing that I'm somewhat a shell of my former self. Not even wielding .01% percent of my former strength.
...i think Demi-god would be too much of an excess..don't you think?"
" You can call me Draconian Alestar"
A smile could be seen on Mr Lou's face as he spoke. He saw the looks in their eyes change for A bit as he admitted to the truth. There were only two words that would be worthy enough of a description...reverence and respect.
" So you're a...God?"
May could not help but blurt out. Taf to her side also had the question in his mind. He was always taught to be mentally strong but even old man Ming himself would be awed by this at the moment.
They both sat there staring at Mr Lou while seemingly becoming lost for words.
" With all your talk of trampling Gods kid, I thought you would be unperturbed by this minor one before you"

Mr Lou laughed as he saw the scene before him.
Hearing himself being taunted, Taf tried his hardest to come out of his stupor. He then tried to remember the questions that he had to ask. Still, himself and May being in the presence of a God was something they both were taking time to come to terms with.
" Who or what am I...i can feel there is something off with this whole thing?"
Once again he went straight to the point posing his question directly.
" Who you are..?"
" Kid, are you going through an early case of Alzheimer?"
" You are Taf...what were you expecting..?
" Sara?"
MR Lou laughed as he looked at the youth before him. However, Taf did not seem to see the humorous side of things. There was a deadpan expression on his face.
" Sigh..., and here i thought you would be fun.."
"For now, that I won't tell you. Let's put it as a need to know basis...
..At the moment it might only hinder the progress I hope to see from you"
Taf could not hide the disappointment that he felt, as his face told it all. May could only rub his shoulder as a means of offering some consoling.
" That I will not disclose but you are still free to ask more questions."
A lifeline was offered by Draconian Alestar who currently occupied Mr Lou's body.
" Since I was your target all along, why the show?"
"It's quite obvious to myself and May that you had the capabilities to take us before the test even begun"
" Why didn't you just do that instead of what had previously occurred?"
Seeing that he could continue with his questioning, Taf would not give up on the opportunity given.
" It's simple really..."
" I just did you the slight favour of instilling A bit of fear into that so-called Dark Abylis Sect. "
After the answer was given the pair were somewhat confused.
" Why would you need to do this for Taf?"
May asked in order to alleviate their confusion.
" Let's just say this sect will come in handy in the future"
A big smirk could be seen on Mr Lou's face as the question was answered. As his eyes met Taf's his smirk became a grin.
Seeing the grin that was on display, Taf had a foreboding.
" Wh...why are you looking at me like That?"
He asked as he saw the grin continuing on the possessed man's face.
" You'll know soon enough..."
"Are there any other questions you will like to ask?"
He swiftly brush the previous statement under the table as if it never was. Seeing they were not going to get a concrete response, Taf and May decided to move on.
" Why did you also request my presence..?"
" It's clear that Taf is the one you seek"
May asked a question of her own, as this too needed answers in her mind.
" Well from my observation of this fellow, there are few people he values...."
" You being one of the top. So I brought you as a means of motivation somewhat"
" I knew he would not be wholeheartedly invested in the tasks I have outlined for him without your presence"
" After all you did make an oath...right"
He looked at the young pair while slightly dragging out his final few words. They both looked at the other and a look of indomitability was seen before continuing.
" Plus don't you find it odd that her affinities were such"

A Step Behind Death
Please share your thoughts about the story! Feedback and criticism is welcome, it'll help me improve my writing. "The final year of high school is the most difficult." This statement has never been truer for Damis, a student attending one of the many schools in the City of Sundridge. He never wanted anything more than to live a peaceful life, going so far as to avoid having large group of friends, indulging in dragged out conversations, or being involved in any other activity that requires him to invest a large amount of effort to accomplish. Instead, he poured all of his efforts into studying, dwelling in his internal monologues, and complaining about the things that annoy him to his one and only friend, Noah. Before long, he ended up as one of the best students in his class. As far as he was concerned, he was content with how he lived. But, after a confrontation with an eccentric girl named May, one of his classmates since the first year of high school, things have suddenly gotten out of hand. And as a result, his life became a lot more hectic than it used to be. Bound by a deal he could not refuse, his life as May's assistant began. At this rate, can he still spend the final days of his high school life in peace? Welcome to the life of Damis, the boy who's always A Step Behind Death. The cover art is made by friend of mine. I plan on making this novel into a webtoon once it becomes the best it can be. English isn't my first language, so expect some grammar bumps along the way.

May remind some of SAO, but yeah... It actually isn't really like SAO at all. I would appreciate any corrections of grammar/spelling errors since I'm not a native English speaker. In addition to that, this is a 'First Draft', so I may edit a few things in old chapters when I feel like it.
