《Fire Dublin (A LitRPG Fantasi–Sci-Fi Adventure)》04. The Book

Elisia was still folding her fingers before Risk to teach her fighting skills. Risk was silent in the slightly cold village breeze. The man didn't know what to say, but making others wait for his answer wasn't his style.

“Do you seriously want to be taught by me?” Risk asked.

“Very serious! I've seen your abilities, and I think I can learn a lot from you. I just want to protect myself like you did to me,” Elisia explained excitedly.

Risk turned to Dao who was still standing nearby. His response remained the same. Risk took a deep breath. “Alright, I need to know what minor abilities you have so far so I can estimate what kind of suitable training for you.”

“Hah, thanks for-“

“But, don't rely too much on me in your every practice. I'm not a good coach,” Risk continued.

“Don't say that, Risk. Risk is a good coach. Risk want to train Rhino so Rhino can fight on his own,” Dao argued.

“Risk also trains Rhino to fight?” Elisia interrupted.

“Yes, and Risk takes it seriously,” Dao replied as he glanced at Risk.

“Tsk, you got me!” Risk walked to the back door. “This afternoon we will practice again here. I hope you come!”

“Thank you. I'll come in the afternoon.” Elisia watched them leave, leaving her alone there.

Elisia was happy because she could convinced Risk to train her. A good opportunity for Elisia to got the class that had been a question in her mind. Maybe with the class, unknown skills could be unlocked. To celebrate her joy, Elisia walked to the main road of the village for a walk.

As far as the eye could see, her eyes treated to views of the beautiful and peaceful countryside. The villagers seemed to do work such as plowing the fields, harvesting crops, feeding livestock, and playing. Elisia felt calm with a breath of fresh air that entered her lungs.

On the way, she met Rhino. He had difficult to carrying the field tools given from the residents. Elisia approached him.

“Rhino, it seems you need help,” Elisia offered.

“Elisia, taking a walk today? Yeah, everyone wants me to fix their tools. This month is harvest season in their fields,” Rhino said.

“May I help you?”

"Sure, I allow it.” Rhino took a bunch of small tools and gave them to Elisia.

Elisia brought the tool slowly. Rhino walked behind Elisia to make sure this girl was okay. The tool was quite heavy despite its small size, but Elisia could carry things. She had thought that she would use up a lot of stamina.

Rhino could see Elisia, who was walking unbalanced. Rhino walked quickly to race Elisia and saw how she was.

“Elisia, are you sure you can bring that tool? You seem tired.”

“It-it's okay, I'm still strong! After all, it's just a little while until we get home.” Elisia's breath was a little tight when she said that.

Rhino also let Elisia finish her work, although it could see that her legs were trembling. Finally, they arrived at the house. Rhino asked Elisia to put the utensil on the terrace.

“Don't you want me to help carry it into the house?” Elisia asked, who still wanted to help.

“No need. I'll bring it myself later.” Rhino put down the many tools he was carrying. “Thanks for your help this afternoon!”

“Alright, I'll go first! Do you want me to bring you a drink?”

“Ah, no need! It'll be better if you drink it,” Rhino refused as raised the big utensil again.

“Alright, take care of it! Those things look heavy.” Elisia looked at Rhino's sweaty body.

“No problem, I used to do it. See you again!” Rhino went to the side of the house.

Elisia got a drink. She found the teapot still filled with water. She poured it into the glass and took a sip. Then she checked the stats.

As expected, she had exhausted a lot of stamina. Elisia wasn't sure if it would fully charge the stamina until this afternoon, nor did she know how much time it would take to recharge the stamina. She checked the stats more deeply and found a question mark next to stamina. Elisia also pressed that.

Finally, she knew now how much time it would take. Elisia glanced at the clock on the wall. The time was 02.14 PM. Elisia would practice later in the afternoon, which would mean between 4 PM and 5 PM. She would wait for 1 hour enough to filled her stamina.

Elisia breathed a sigh of relief after knowing that. While waiting, Elisia explored the contents of the house. There's nothing special here, but the room that says "Upgrade Room" couldn't enter because the door locked. Elisia checked the details of the room on the door.

[Upgrade's Room]

“Upgrade's special room. Anyone can't enter this room without Upgrade's permission.”

Elisia thought Upgrade was holding something that no one should see. So, she sat on the dining chair to wait for someone to pass or sat absentmindedly while waiting for her stamina to recover. But, it just bored her. She went around again and found a book under the guest table. The book was a little dusty and entitled “Hex Aegis”. Out of curiosity, she opened the book to read.

Elisia red it well enough that her eyes couldn't take her eyes off of it. Even though it used quite heavy language, Elisia could still understand the contents of the book. The book contained the basic techniques of using melee weapons and the magic arts that cover them. With this, Elisia could understand every role in this world and the weapons used.

Elisia was interested while reading the Vanguard class and the spear weapon. According to the book, it was a weapon capable of reaching great distances in each attack and could use for defense as well. In addition, Vanguard class was a light class that could move swiftly with small attack intervals, and capable of dealing medium to large damage. She wanted to know if Risk could teach her to be a Vanguard.

“This book is quite interesting. I want to read it more and more.” Elisia closed the book and returned it. “But reading for too long makes my eyes dry. I have to wash my face.”

Just as she left, a message appeared in front of Elisia

“New Achievement Unlocked: Information”

“Reward: gain 50% chance to increase your skill level”

“New item got: [Hex Aegis]”

.

Elisia checked the book again and found that the owner's section of the book filled with her name. It surprised Elisia to saw this book like she had a thought. Yet if she remembered, this book belonged to one person in this house, maybe Risk. She worried that Risk would scold her for taking the book. She went to the kitchen immediately to got a napkin and tried to clear the name written in black ink, but to no avail.

Elisia didn't know what to do until finally she put the book back on the guest table and acted as if nothing had happened. She stepped into the living room and the door opened suddenly. It surprised Elisia to see who entered through the door.

“Elisia, what are you doing?” Risk asked, who entered.

With a slightly sweaty face and a pounding heart, Elisia hid the book behind her back. “Uh, nothing! I just… want to sit here…”

Risk looked at Elisia's face, which was filled with fear and anxiety at the same time. Her expression appeared on Risk's face and the girl couldn't guess how he was feeling right now.

“If you're tired, you can lie down in my room. But please don't touch anything!” Risk closed the door and walked into the kitchen.

After Risk entered, Elisia breathed a sigh of relief. She took the book hidden behind her back and put it back on the guest table. Then, she walked in to meet Risk. She could see the gray-haired man sitting down sipping a glass of water. Elisia sat beside Risk and surprised the man.

“Is there something you want to say?”

“Eeeee…, how should I say this?” Elisia's eyes glanced everywhere. “Do you think... am I suitable for using a spear weapon?”

Risk took another sip of water and set the glass on the table. “Everyone is compatible with any weapon, as long as they can use it. What are you asking like that? You want to practice using the spear?”

Elisia nodded vigorously. “Yeah, can you teach me?”

“I can teach you, but wielding a spear is quite difficult. Balance between your left and right hands for your weapon to work properly. In addition, your hands must be strong so that you can withstand attacks using your spear. Besides that, a Vanguard widely used this weapon. Do you want to become a Vanguard?”

“Yes, as long as you want to teach me fighting skills,” Elisia replied.

“Alright, I'll ask Rhino to make one spear for practice.” Risk sighed. The man got up and left through the back door.

Elisia felt happy in her heart. Eventually, the opportunity to practice combat would materialize and she would have a class of her own. However, she reminded again of the book [Hex Aegis] that had her name written on it. She thought that if Risk saw it, he would be angry. A complicated thought came back to haunt her head now.

To dispel that thought, Elisia walked to the back door to take another look at the scene. All those thoughts definitely wouldn't bother her if she hadn't touched or red the book. However, she would also not know anything if she didn't read the book. Maybe she should tell Risk the truth later.

Amid daydream, Elisia saw Dao chopping wood. She approached him to find a solution to this problem. Although Dao was strange in accent, he had once said that he was a helper.

Dao greeted her. “Good afternoon, Elisia! A pretty sunny day to get the job done.”

“Good afternoon, Dao! There's something I want to talk to you about,” Elisia said.

“Just say it, and Dao will listen.”

Elisia was at a loss on how to start the conversation. “Eee.. does Risk like reading books?”

“Yes, Risk is a book maniac. If Risk relaxed, Risk would definitely spend a lot of time reading. Besides that, Risk also likes to go to the village library to read books,” Dao replied.

“Then, do you know the book called 'Hex Aegis'?” Elisia got into the topic.

“Hex Aegis?” Dao paused for a moment. “Oh, that's a book that Risk has read. He once said it was very interesting, but he didn't really like reading it because he had read a similar book before.”

“So, the book is no longer read by him?” Elisia confirmed.

“Yes, Risk said that people at home can read the book or even own it. Risk said that the book reminded him of the past,” Dao continued.

Inwardly, Elisia felt relieved. “Oh, that’s good! Thank you for your answer!”

“But why would Elisia ask that to Dao?” Dao asked back.

She turned around. “I… have read that book by accident and now it claims that I’m its owner. It wrote my name in it.”

“Oh, I see. There were some things that Dao remembered about the book.” Dao put down the axe and sat on the chopping block. “That book actually had a magic power that could strengthen anyone who had it. However, the book cannot be owned by just anyone. Only pure-heart people could have it. That's what Risk lacks, so he can't be the owner of the book. Hearing Elisia's words makes Dao think that Elisia is the rightful owner of the book."

“Then, what happens if I become the owner of the book?” Elisia said.

“Elisia's abilities will increase better and stronger than anyone. The book contains everything related to ability and strength. Besides, Hex Aegis is one of the 7 sacred books in this world.”

Elisia thought more deeply. If she became the owner of the book, then she could do anything with the book. However, Elisia didn't want to think about such things to the deepest point. She had a lot more to learn.

“So that's the story. I wish I could use the power of that book,” Elisia said somewhat doubtfully.

“What did Elisia say? Elisia can definitely do it. Dao believes in Elisia,” Dao said in an excited tone.

Elisia smiled. “Thank you, Dao!”

After waiting a few hours with Dao, Elisia went straight to the side yard to wait for Risk to came. She couldn't wait to get her first practice. This girl won't know what she's got until Risk arrives.

A few moments later, Risk came with two wooden sticks. He attached the rod to an iron at one end. Elisia watched Risk who also built a field doll made of straw. Then, Risk faced Elisia.

“You come on time for your first practice. I really appreciate it. For your first practice, I want to test your physical abilities. I want you to run around this house 7 times. After that, come back here again.” Risk returned to tidying up the training grounds.

Elisia immediately ran. She had run before, being chased by a bear, to be more precise. So it shouldn't be a hard thing to run around the house. Elisia would do it to the maximum. The first round had passed, Elisia could still run. In second and third rounds, Elisia could still run even though her breath was getting short.

The fourth round, her breath became decreasingly irregular. In the fifth and sixth rounds, her running speed decreased. She only needed to complete half a round in order to reach the seventh round. However, her legs felt tired and weak. Elisia checked her stats.

It had drained her stamina a lot. She wasn't sure could continue this practice with that much stamina. Hopefully, she could get some rest when she arrived. Finally, Elisia managed 7 laps of running. The girl immediately slumped under the overhang of the house.

Risk saw Elisia, who was sitting and went straight to her. “Get up! Now is not the time to rest!”

“But…, I'm so tired…” Elisia's breath was messy.

“You're the one who begged me to train you, and you have to be committed to your choices. A fighter must be strong.” Risk threw one of the iron-tipped sticks at Elisia. “Okay, 2 minutes!”

Elisia regulated her breathing as best she could so wouldn't too exhausted. With the remaining energy that was owned, it wasn’t enough to continue the exercise. It's just that if she delayed a training, Risk would definitely not like it. Finally, with all the fatigue all over her body, Elisia got up and approached Risk.

“Risk, I'm ready to train!” Elisia said.

Risk turned around. “Good. Looks like you've recovered all your strength. For this training, I want you to attack these straw dolls with the sticks you are holding.”

“But, I haven't learned how to use this stick yet,” Elisia said.

“Dao will practice it for you.” Risk glanced at Dao who was already standing behind Risk while carrying a stick.

“Elisia, are you ready?” Dao asked. Elisia nodded.

Dao raised his staff to stomach level and mounted a stance. Elisia followed him as closely as possible. Then Dao swung the stick towards the puppet field until its body slightly torn apart. Elisia followed him, but wasn't strong enough yet. She tried again, but still not strong enough. She kept trying until she finally succeeded.

Next, Dao would show how to stab the stick into the target. He mounted another stance with a stick pointed forward. Then Dao pushed the stick until it pierced the field doll. Elisia followed Dao movement. The result was the same as before, not strong enough yet. While watching Elisia train, Risk suprised when saw something shining from Elisia's chest. He felt that Elisia was holding something unknown.

Elisia tried to stab her spear into the puppet field. Convinced, she pushed the iron-coated stick on the end into the target. She did it, but something shining from Elisia's chest dazzled her eyes. Instantly, Elisia felt something change in her body.

The light radiated more intensely, and it created an explosion. Risk and Dao immediately walked over to Elisia and their expressions shocked. Elisia opened her eyes, and she also surprised because the staff she was holding turned into a white battle spear. She also felt heat from her chest and a fire burning through her. Elisia checked the stats.

Elisia didn't expect that she would get a class so soon. Nor did she realize that she had been carrying a pendulum all along. It amazed Risk and Dao at the changes that Elisia had undergone. Risk smiled a little and Dao was still staring with wide eyes. Elisia felt an energy flow within her body, and her chest felt warm with smoldering fire. She still didn't understand. How could she change so fast?
