The Past, Part # 1

Normal POV:-

8 years old Christian was playing in the garden of his Aunt Amelia's home. His family came to visit theirs. His mother; Eleanor Elvis is the sister of Amelia Skye. As he was playing he heard the sound of shouting, it's nothing new for him, his family always argue with each other, to see fights and receive a negative impact from it has become normal for him. Him being young and intrigued by the reason, he went inside to see what's happening.

When he was about to enter but 4 years old Merlin held his hand as she shushed him to not to make a noise,

"Shh.. Don't go close. They'll get angry." He nodded, "Do you know what they are talking about?" He asked her. "Maybe about my sister." She shrugged. "What about her?" He wanted to know. "Mother wanted a boy." He blinked, not understanding, the reason to fight. He then decided to listen to what they are talking about from where he was standing; outside the room.

"What the hell are you talking about!?" Yelled Roger Smith, Amelia and Juliette's Husband.

"I said I don't want this girl! I already have one. I don't need another!" Yelled Juliette while carrying Sophie inside her.

"Don't talk like that. An unborn baby bears no sin. How could you talk like that?" Eleanor; Christian's mother tried to make them understand.

"Please don't interfere, Sister Eleanor. It's mine and Juliette's child, not Amelia's. We want to abort it." Roger said exasperated.

"It's a human life we are talking about Roger. Please have mercy on her." Amelia cried because she wasn't heartless like Juliette.

"She is not your child Amelia. Stay out of this." Juliette snarled.

"I won't. I am also about to become a mother. I cannot allow you to do it." Amelia firmly said.

"Then.. how about this? If you want to keep this girl, pay us 1 million dollars. So that I and Roger can leave you guys alone." Proposed Juliette. Everyone gasped upon hearing her shameless statement.

"Are you out of your mind?! You're selling your own kid for money!" Yelled Amelia. She was absurd like always.

"I told you, I don't want a girl. Either pay us or stay out of our matter." Juliette said, closing her arms at her chest.

"How insensible you are.." Eleanor whispered, at the verge of crying.

"I don't care." Juliette's voice was cold as ice.

"Fine. I'll pay for it. But she'll be my kid then, in every document, she will be my daughter. And you will be expelled from all the rights. Got it?" Amelia said in sheer determination. Juliette scoff and agreed.

After they left, Amelia began to cry as Eleanor began to rub her back.

"Calm down... it's not good for your child.."

"Sister.. she was about to kill a child... how can she think like that?" Amelia sobbed. When Amelia can't give Roger a child after 7 Years of their marriage, he married another girl who gave her a child. Merlin, but in unpredictable turns of events both of his wives got pregnant, one with Sophie and other with Eugene.

"Don't worry.. we'll arrange the money. I'll ask Jonathon for help."

"I'll sell my land," Amelia said, wiping her tears.

After talking, Jonathon Elvis; Christian's father, agreed to pay for the rest of the money. All of them came from an upper-middle-class family. By selling their property and all they manage to get money. But Jonathon made a condition that when the girl will grow, she'll be given to Christian to do as, please. This was another shocking statement but Eleanor knows how to handle it so they agreed for it and Amelia became the child of two kids. Sophie was born first but her birth certificate states that she's Eugene's twin as they were born on the same date but it's not true, Sophie is two months older than Eugene.

The day Sophie was born, everyone was waiting for her.

"What are we doing here?" Christian asked, tugging on the sleeves of her mother's shirt. She smiled and patted his head,

"Christian, you are about to meet a girl now whom you are supposed to protect as long as you are going to live. Okay?" Eleanor explained as he nodded.

"And to do as please." Grumble Jonathon from behind to which Eleanor sent a glare to him and not spoil the innocent soul of his son. They meet them one by one, by looking at her younger sister Merlin asked timidly,

"Is she my sister? You guys will love her now?" Her parent pulled her in a hug and said,

"Of course not. And no, she is not your sister. She is Aunt Amelia's daughter, understood?"

"But-"

"No buts. She is not your sister." Her mother said firmly. She nodded and kept looking at her.

"She is still my half-sister." She argued but a deadly look was enough for her to shut up.

Christian picked her up as a smile crept upon his lips,

"She is so cute." He exclaimed looking at her in admiration.

"Only for you." His father patted his head.

"For me..." He whispered as he smiled.

"Can I name her?" He asked with his eyes shining brightly. A silence fell upon the room. Everyone exchanged glances, Amelia asked,

"What name do you have in mind?" Christian looked at her for a second as if he is lost in her and a name rolled on his lips,

"Sophie... Sophie Florence.." The name was beautiful but certainly not the surname. Amelia never wanted Sophie to have the surname of the woman who abandoned her.

"Sophie Skye." Amelia corrected Christian while glaring at Juliette.

"But, Aunt Juliette's last name is-"

"She is my child, Christian." Christian maybe 8 years old but his mind is mature and he can understand. That fight is still encrypted in his mind. He knows they don't want a girl so they are leaving her for money. He didn't argue more and nodded.

"Yeah! She is not my sister!" Merlin pouted.

"She doesn't even need you. She has me." Said Christian still not moving his gaze away from her who was sleeping peacefully.

5 Years Later:-

Roger went away with his wife Juliette and Merlin to New York leaving Boston and Amelia, Eugene and Sophie behind and they were not complaining because the root of evil; Juliette left and they no longer had fights. But since he has a son, he pays a visit to his son, once in a while- too much to everyone's dismay. They all are living their lives happily. Sophie was growing big along with Eugene, Amelia always took care of her as if they are twins. Loving both of them with her heart. They were a happy family.

Christian was 13 years old, he and his mother came to pay a visit to their Aunt.

"You never came to meet Sophie, Christian." Complained Amelia because he had never met her. He smiled and looked in another direction.

"It would be better if I didn't meet her or she even came to know about me." He said looking outside the window watching Sophie playing in the ground with her brother and few other kids.

"Look how much of a man he has become. I am so proud of you, son." Eleanor kissed his forehead. He always pitied Sophie because he knew what's her future, she was supposed to be his toy, he truly liked her and never wanted her to end up like this but in the end, she did.

Years went by and Amelia kept living her life peacefully but Eleanor started facing problems- not that they are new but they are getting bigger.

Christian was sitting in the corner of a dark room, the pitch darkness gave him an eerie feeling of dread as tears streamed down while he put his hands over his ears to conceal the sound of his mother's cries, extreme apprehension gave rise to his Nyctophobia. He was terrified of the darkness because he could hear his mother's cries in the dark. Calling Jonathon to stop beating her but he never spared mercy upon her. Listening to that sound in the gloom, he began to feel an eternal fear for the darkness that he might not hear these sounds again.

But, no matter how much of a cruel person Jonathon was, Eleanor never left him. She always smiled, hiding all her pain behind her smiles. She never let the world know about his behaviour with her, she hides it all too well.

***

"Mother... I promise. I'll take you away from him." Promised 17 years old Christian to his mother because he is getting tired of hearing these pleas that take his life out of him painfully. He wants to help his mother but he can't, he knows he is not capable enough to do anything, all he can do is to make empty promises and give consolation to his mother. Just for his mother, to do something for her and take her away from the frights and pain, he joined the dark side at the age of 17 but never told her about it. Eleanor kissed his forehead and smiled but said nothing.

..Sophie kept living her life ignorant of the fact what her future held for her, she lived a normal life, unaware of her own self. Lively and happy...

Aunt Eleanor used to come to their house,

"Aunt!" 9 years old Sophie shouted and jumped into her arms. Sophie's eyes shine in happiness as she hugged her tightly,

"I missed you!" She grinned.

"Oh, I miss you too and so is your knight," Eleanor said as she kissed her forehead. Eleanor always told her about Christian, calling him her Knight who will love and protect her.

"But, he never came to visit me." Pouted Sophie. "One day, he'll appear out of nowhere taking you with him." She said, pinching her cheeks. "A Knight will descend for you," Her Aunt said. "I hope one day he will." Sophie smiled. "He will." She smiled back.

"But, I can't leave mama and Eugene alone," Sophie said sadly. Eleanor always loved Sophie, she was always cheerful and brave, Eleanor always used to tell Christian about Sophie, what she did today, what are her likes and dislikes and Christian grew up listening to only one name; Sophie. But to be honest, he loves hearing about her, what she does, what she likes and all. And he knows everything about her but Sophie knows nothing about him, not even his name. She only knows him as her Knight.

After meeting her Aunt, Sophie's smile faded,

"That Bastard is here." She hissed.

"Who the hell you are calling a bastard?!" Roger's voice roared through the hall.

"Who else? You. You. You who love only Eugene heck, not even Eugene you love your bitches!" She yelled and her language didn't surprise anyone because she always humiliated him, she hated him and she is not afraid to show it

."Watch your mouth you pest!" Roger took a step towards her. She moved away from her Aunt and glared at him.

"What the hell you can do!? Touch me and I'll call the police! Your very existence is hateful, Get the hell out of our lives!" She yelled again. But deep inside her died for his attention and did this to gain it, she wanted the love of a Father like every child but couldn't receive it.

"You ungrateful brat!" He raised his hand to hit her but she ran and stood up on the sofa having the phone in her hand.

"Watch your actions Bastard, And you have done nothing for us. My mother does everything for me. You don't have any rights over me. Get lost!" She scowled at him, her voice always made her Aunt and mother chest boast. She is always short-tempered and the very existence of him is offensive to her. Her desires aside, she cannot forgive him for leaving her family.

He turned to Amelia and glared at her,

"She does everything, right?" He turned to her, Sophie picked a slipper and threw at him.

"Talk to me damn it! Don't you dare to go near her!" She shouted and this took his wrath to a whole new level. He marched towards her and slapped her hard across her cheek as the sound echoed in the hall. Eugene began to cry as he hid behind the door.

Eleanor and Amelia rushed to Sophie who was crying,

"You're the worst, you cruel animal!" She still shouted.

"You.." He slapped her again. Sophie fell on the ground as blood slightly flowed down from the corner of her lips.

"You will pay for it Bastard." She hissed not giving up. Roger gritted his teeth and turned his head away,

"I was here to meet my son not to meet some nuisance like her," he growled.

"I am also not dying to be with you. I would rather be happy if you die!" She yelled hiding behind the sofa.

Roger went to the bathroom and Sophie wiped her tears as her mother and Aunt consoled her. She grits her teeth as the urge to make him pay took over her. Roger walked out as he stood in the hall.

The doorbell ring as a smirk crept upon Sophie's lips. She quickly went to the door and opened it as tears again fell from her eyes,

"O-Officer.. t-this man hit m-me.." She cried- too much to everyone's shock. She called the cops. Cops took Roger away.

Later a complaint was filed as he was fined for his deed and after that, he never came to meet them as Amelia also divorced him.

Eleanor told Christian the whole matter as he laughed,

"Sophie is truly something.. it's unbelievable that she is 9." He laughed.

"Really... That's why I want her to be my bride, not your toy." Eleanor said hopelessly. Christian smile faded as he frowned,

"Mother... I have told you, We will leave Boston and never gonna come in their lives. Sophie will live a normal life. I will vanish from her life. I have no rights over her." He declared.

"No one knows what the future holds son.." Eleanor sighed.

A year later, On Christian 18th birthday his father died in an accident. No matter how much of a fucker was that guy but he was his father and he loved him. At the funeral, he met Sophie officially for the first time, Sophie was 10, she was crying because of her uncle. She looked at the garden and saw Christian sitting all alone. She went to him and sat beside him,

"You are Aunt's son, don't you? Aunt never told me your name. I am Sophie." She smiled holding her hand but he didn't take it. Her smile turned into a sad one as she looked down,

"I feel bad for you. I never had a father and I don't know about Father's love but I do know about the loveless life of not having a father. Please don't be sad, your father loves you. This will make him sad." She said with her innocent big hazel eyes shining brightly. Christian sniffed and looked away, "Leave me alone." He hid his emotions from her, trying not to cry.

"It's better to cry with a shoulder than alone. Mother told me that." He looked at her for a second as he hugged her the next moment and began to cry out loud. Sophie rubbed his back as they both cried- Christian more loudly. Then they pulled away and Christian left without saying another word.

"Oh, I forgot to ask Cousin's name." She said to herself but he was no more here.

After giving their condolences, they went home. Sophie kept asking for his name but no one told her in the end...

After his father's death, Christian began to face money problems. He has to complete his studies as well as to take care of his mother. To escape that desperation of money, he involved himself in illegal businesses more. Eleanor being an uneducated woman, she began to work as a maid. Christian also used to do small jobs but they can't be enough for his education and house. But still trying to leave the life of poverty, they fought hard. They can't even ask help from Amelia, she has nothing left she is also giving her all to grow her two kids.

Desperation...

To get out of that life, he took a risk and agreed to smuggle drugs to which he'll get bigger jobs and live better than here in New York. To achieve that life, he decided to leave everything behind.

That night, he was successful and was ready to leave Boston. But before he goes, he wants to see Sophie for the last time.

He was 21, She was 13, too much age gap but he couldn't help it, he was always told that she belonged to him and her mother always told him that he was hers too, he was supposed to love her, protect her till the bitter end. She told him that he is her knight. He has to do whatever he can for her and he couldn't help but to feel the attraction of the relationship everyone assumed.

It's the party; his farewell party. They were playing hide and seek. Sophie was so lost in the kids of her age and he watched her from afar with a smile. He wanted to talk to her alone before he went. That's why he told all the kids to get ice cream while she counts to 100 but unfortunately there's no adult for them as they took him away- forcefully not to mention, leaving Sophie all alone.

He felt so bad for her. When they came back, he brought a bucket of ice-cream only for her.

She was crying that they left her behind. She was sitting alone as he came to her.

"Here you go. I forgot to take you with me so I bought this for you." He smiled offering her the bucket. She puffed and looked away,

"I don't want it." She said angrily.

"I am sorry I couldn't take you with me, Sophie. Accept this as an apology."

"I said I don't want it!" She said closing her arms at her chest. He sighed as he bends and looked at her,

"Maybe this is the last time we are meeting. Before I go, I want to tell you; I'll miss you," he said. Sophie's eyes widened, she opened her mouth to say something, to ask his name but before she could ask anything, he kissed her cheeks and smiled as he stood up and left putting the ice-cream on her side.

"Farewell Sophie.." He said as he disappeared thin into the air after this...
