《Angel | ✓》51 - From the Dead

The room was plain, just like the last one, but in the middle, there was a large metal table.

On one side, there was a singular chair and the other two of them.

Nala takes the side with two chairs, so I sit across from her.

We both bathe in the silence of the room. She looks at me, eyeing every aspect of me, whilst my eyes scan the room and I see the supposed blacked out window behind her, but this couldn't trick me.

The naked human eye would only see black, but the cover was thin, and I could easily see past it, showing a petite, pale women and a tall broad man, both of them looking at me curiously, until he nods, and she exits the small room of viewing and after a few minutes she enters the interrogating room.

And sitting next to the commander, I look at her and take in her closer appearance. Her body language was practically speaking to me. Her body was tense and on guard, but her face showcased that she was calm and judging by the folder in her hand and the bags under her eyes, she had done her research on me.

"As you can guess, since the psychologist didn't work, so have no choice but to interrogate you." the commander speaks up "This is Detective Macey, and she will be presenting what has been uncovered. And anything you say can and will be used against you." With that, Nala hands it over to the detective.

Her hands are tightened on the folder as she opens it, to try and stop her hands from shaking.

"State your name."

"Valery Collins." I say briskly, and I raise my eyebrow as she looks at me, a sudden burst of confidence in her eyes. "That is your name, yes?" I nod, but I don't make an effort to try and hide my smile.

I knew where this was going.

"You go to the Los Angeles School District and have a small job at a cafe and live in an apartment complex; correct?" she asks, her voice pitch changing, the agitation creeping up her spine, just as my smile gets wider. "Yes."

"20XX, August 15th." she states seriously, and I smile sadistically, tilting my head. "Is when Valery Collins appeared in LA. She took a bus here. There is no record of her being anywhere else before these two years.

And just a few weeks ago, a new student now known as a supernatural criminal was revealed to have been tracking you and that you were hiding a key aspect to your appeared with contacts. Adding onto that fact, to your temporary psychologist you revealed that you 'were just like her' but on your documents, there is no history of you having even a degree in psychology.

So I will ask you."

She leans forward. "Who are you really 'Valery Collins'" She spat my fake identity like venom.

I nod my head and slide my eyes to her files in hand to which she covers quickly.

I knew that date she said like it was the back of my hand, I even had it marked on my calendar.

The date I escaped from Francis and forged my identity. With what I can do with my cuffed hands, I clap them together in applause, but she holds her glare.

"For having me in custody for less than two days, I applaud for how quickly you work!" I say excitedly and I could see her pleading face for me to confess something, anything.

"And after two years, it was getting boring to hide everything."

I could see the surprise inscribed in her eyes as I said this, I hadn't even given a fight. I straighten my posture as a toothy grin slid across my face and slip one hand out of the handcuffs, outstretching it to the detective.

"Valentina. Valentina Rider."

At the few words the room falls silent.

The two looks at me in shock and the detective sat back down in her seat slowly, flicking through her files quickly but judging by the looks of it when she put it down, she never collected who I could possibly be.

Suddenly she shouts, "You're lying!" I flinch at her "She was a noble woman who sacrificed her life!" I shrug my shoulders and lean back in my seat. Not letting my eyes leave her as she has fire blazing in her eyes.

"Well, I'm back from the dead."

The detective jumped out of the seat and stormed out of the room and back into the mirror room, where I watched her burst into tears, being comforted by the same man who was still watching us.

"What happened to her?" I ask, looking back to Nala to see that she still looks dumbfound. But she seems to snap out of it soon enough.

"Her brother was involved with his gang and blames Francis for him getting shot." She says blankly and I nod my head understandingly.

I drop my head to face my lap, but it shoots up again and the door opens again and the other man from the two-sided mirror comes in and takes the seat next to Nala.

He was built well, and he wasn't afraid from what I could tell.

"You're Valentina?" He asks hoarsely and I nod, making him look through the file he had in his hand and then the watch on his wrist.

"And how could you prove that you are her?" He asks seriously, almost coming off to be intimidating but my smile at stays.

"I don't need to prove anything. You can either take my word or not." I say simply and his eyes narrow at mine.

It's silent and Nala shifts as she watches me cautiously.

"A word Nala." He grunts and steps out of the room, the commander following his movements.

I smirked and leaned back on my chair, playing with the chains in my hands with glee.

I had them on their toes. They may have Francis in their hand and know him but for me, I'm unpredictable.

As I closed my eyes, I let my senses take over. My hearing increased as I focused, and I could even feel my heartbeat.

Tuning into the outside conversation, I heard the man talking to Nala.

"We need to confirm who she is, Officer." He demands. But the commander is silent.

"The media is getting weary, if we don't release something quickly, the government will go to any lengths to get information out of her." He explains and I could see the flashbacks of when Francis was fighting those scientists.

What if they were sent from the government?

My jaw clenched as they both came back in again. They sat across from me, and I eyed them both with a glare before letting out a breathily sigh and sitting up.

"Fine, I'll give you the information you need but with one condition." I sneer and the man raises his eyebrow, crossing his arms.

"And what might that be?"

"That you allow me to see Francis." I demand and he stifles a laugh.

"And why would we do that?" he says, his eyes darkening but my eyes keep their glare.

"Because I have information you need." I state with a smile, and he stares at me for minutes, assessing if I was lying, I don't even make an effort to mask it. And I wanted to see him, I would do anything to do it.

"The information of your identity will be put to the public." He states.

The man finally uncrosses his arm and places the folder but his side and interlocks his hands together, putting them in front of him.

"Let's start with the basics." He grumbled but I still hear it and nod.

"You didn't have any contact with Francis for 2 years- when you were free from him, why didn't you seek help?" He asks and I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Why do you think?" I snap and he stills. "As soon as it would get out to the public that I somehow arose from the flames, I would become viral, and he would find me in no time. Plus, I didn't really want anyone dissecting me." My wings shuffle in place as I say the words.

My lips straighten as I see the man's eyes flash with sorrow, but they dim as quickly as it appeared, and he nods his head slowly.

"And how did you get out of the building."

"Francis. He saved my life." To this they're surprised.

I raise my brow at them and continue. "He may be a murder but think of his past. He was broken by those bastard scientists and after that he never knew who to trust, so I showed him."

It was silent for moments and I even started to think they were done and sure enough it had stopped him from asking more.

"I see. That will be all." He says and immediately stands up, strutting out of the room but stops when he gets the door and looks back at me seriously.

"If you try anything between now and tomorrow, you won't be seeing him for a while." Is all he says after and slams the door. I remain still as I listen to hear the viewing room open and rakes his hand through his hair.

He paces around the room, and I watch him, ignoring the fact that Nala was still there. My words were claws, and they had sunken into him, and he was conflicted. Not knowing who's side he should really be on.

I could hear him let out a loud sigh and he turns to the mirror, looking at me but his eyes widen quickly as he realises that I'm starting right back at him with a toothy grin. Too surprised to even speak, he runs out of the room, but I could hear his steps pacing further away until the crowd outside blocked it out.

"You really think that about him?" Nala blurts out suddenly and she sounded offended but as I turned to look at her, my smile turned soft as her eyes were eager and looking for a true respond and I nod proudly making her facial features soften too.

"That's good of you kid, but you need to get back into your cell now." she says, and I groan but comply as she leads me out and now, I'm more attentive and now where I'm going, not bothering to acknowledge the glances of sheer fear, but I stop as my ears catch onto the sound of a TV, the sound of a news reporter talking, and I listen closer.

" I am standing here now at Los Angeles Hospital and there is a riot taking place, but the people outraged of Francis Whitelock's safety within it. They want him gone and some have even attempted to break into his room. And the fear of the world has increased from the information of a new supernatural working with Francis, his presumed dead psychologist. What will be next? This is Bradford speaking on 13 News."

My heartbeat quickened as I lost my senses and I stared into nowhere.

They were trying to kill him. My hands clenched at the idea. And I'm not there to help him. My breaths became heavy as I turned to the presence approaching me closer.

"They're trying to kill Francis?" I hiss dangerously, darting around to the woman and Nala steps back from me, as I felt my wings sprout and overshadow myself, my aura powerful and dangerous.

"Yes, but there has been enforcement put in place to stop them." she says firmly, and I could feel my palms bleeding from my nails digging, finding some sort of relief. But that doesn't stop the rest of my body.

"Take me to him." I demand.

She shakes her head firmly making the fire inside me grow and I snap of the handcuffs of my wrists, shaking them off as I point my finger at her.

"Take me now." I order, my anger through the roof but it flakes as she steps closer to me threateningly. I spread my wings further, making me appear larger but she doesn't cower.

"You will tomorrow." she says and my chest heaves as she stares into my eyes, the deep blue calming me. "And he will be safe until then."

I bit my lip as I lower my wings, not daring to look at her again, but I could feel her hand lay on my shoulder. "Trust me."

I nod, making my wings disappear and walk down the hallway, not saying another word to her.

I'm woken up to the sound metal clicks and chains clanking, making me sit straight up in my position as my ears ache of the loud noises. I groan loudly making the sound outside dim down, no doubt the other prisoners not wanting to see me.

It had been three days since the interview, and three days since they had let me out of this cell and it felt like it was getting smaller by the day.

My only sources of entertainment were the paper I stole from the guard before, and then the guards themselves and as much as I tried to make conversations with them, I failed.

I slug out of the bed and peak at the small window to see the sun was nearly already in the middle of the sky. So, it must be 11am. I scrub my face of the sleep and lean against the door, glancing at the new guard stationed at the door.

He glanced at me briefly and I could hear a soft grumble after making a smile grow on my face. "What's happening today?" I ask curiously and his eyes slide to glare at me, but he tries to hide his annoyance.

"It's visiting hours." he says briefly, and I look to see the excited faces of the prisoners, but I look at the guard again with a frown. "And why aren't I going out?"

To this his scoffs "Because they actually have visitors"

I narrow my eyes at the bold guard, I reach my hand out of the bars and make my way to him, eyeing his neck without him noticing. "And-"

"Valentina." A voice boomed down the hallway making both of our heads turn to face Nala who was strutting down the hallway quickly with a stern look on her face and I quickly whip my hand away from the man and smile cheerfully.

As she arrives, I stand back from the door, enclosing my wings to disappear and she glares at me, glancing to her side at the unharmed guard. She reaches into her pockets and pull-out clanging keys, unlocking my door.

I step out, once again letting the handcuffs circle my wrists and the guard's grip on the gun, he held tightened. I glanced at him and caught his eyes before turning back to the commander.

"So do I have guests?" I ask cheerfully and she nods carefully.

Prone to the excitement in my eyes she acts cautious but it's too late as I walk down the hallway speedily, wanting to finally talk to someone about all this, for all I could know it could be an acquaintance of Francis's. I went down the hallways and corridors quickly, ignoring the officer's calls to slow down.

A smile grew wider to my cheeks as I got near the main hallway, but I stop as I hear the command from Nala to turn left into a door to a large room.

Stepping into it, there wasn't much to be seen, but for all I could know there would be camera hidden.

I turned my back to the door whilst I check out the room, eyeing for cameras and assessing the decorations there.

There were no windows so that chance was ruled out, as same with someone listening through the concrete walls here. And besides the shelves and in the middle, there was two couches facing each other and then a plain table in the middle of them.

I was about to take a seat, but as I do, I could feel the hairs standing on the back of my neck and I turn around just to freeze at the sight of the sight in front of me.
