《Angel | ✓》34 - Puzzled

She was next to me, smiling as I closed my eyes, drifting into sleep. But the smile didn't go to her eyes.

It was fake, her happiness. Fake.

I wanted to ask why but before I could my body shut down to sleep.

Why was she faking her happiness to me?

My eyes shot open as I heard deep voices talking beside me, some unfamiliar, some familiar.

There was someone sitting next to me, but the light was blurring my sight and for a second, I could swear I saw her in front of me. "Angel?"

When my eyes adjusted to the light, I looked at my surroundings.

I was still in my room, but without my love.

There was someone who looked like a doctor, looking at his computer with a needle filled with blood laid next to it. And to my left, Xavier stood over me with a worried face.

"Boss, you're awake!" he breaths out thankful and I raise an eyebrow at him.

"Of course, I'm awake. What's going on?" I ask skipping to the point at the doctor's eyes flicker from his computer to me worriedly.

"Sir," he starts off and looks back to his computer once more before focusing on me. "Have you had anything to eat today?" he asks and when I look out to the window, I could see that it was already sunset. How long have I been asleep?

"Just soup." I answer and he nods to me and stands up.

"I'm afraid to break it to you, but whoever served you this soup... had drugged it with a heavy amount of sleeping pills," he said, and I could feel my heart instantly drop to my gut.

She wouldn't do that to me. Would she?

"Francis. Tell me who gave it to you, and we can track the culprit down as fast as possible." Xavier says and I stare him dead in the eye, not daring the show any emotion.

"Valentina did," I deadpanned, and he double took at me in shock.

"What?" he asked, stunned, but I ignored him and turned to the doctor as I got up.

"Look at the pill storage and do more tests on the DNA you have from me." I demand and the doctor nods and I rush out of the room, Xavier hot on my tail.

"What do you mean 'Valentina'. She didn't know it was drugged, right?" he said, and I shake my head uttering to myself.

"She doesn't have to reason to,"

We walk around aimlessly, and I try to find her but still end up alone after I looked around her favourite places. This mansion was huge. I need to order a search.

"Tell the guards to look for her, I need to attend to work." I say to Xavier who was still following me, and he nods, shouting at the guards near us my command. As I walk in the hallway the thoughts in my mind darken. What if she did drug me, why would she do that?

I had no clue to why she would do this.

What if she was forced to?

Forced. She could've been forced. And what if she was kidnapped now?

I rushed to my office instantly and started to dial a number on my phone but as I looked over my desk, I froze.

An 'F' was written in the top corner of one of my contracts. I don't remember writing that- and nobody comes into my room without me in it

Putting down the phone slowly and picked up the page looking at the F closely, it was her writing.

The pen was black ink and it looked extremely neat, as if she was taking her time. As I was about to walk away from my desk, another glimpse of red catches my eye. It was an 'O' written in the same place on a page of my documents.

Did she write me a message?

Looking around more, I found more and more pages that were marked with different letter, it's like she wanted me to match them up to form words somehow.

I rustled in the papers and ended up with the letters.

'F, O, U, C, U, K, Y.'

What could these possibly say?

Groaning, I knew I had the figure this since it might be a message.

I need to find her.

Calming myself down with deep inhales and exhales, I managed to make 'YOU' and I knew what the next word spelt but I don't know why it was.

Stepping back from my desk do see the finished puzzle and my jaw tightened at the sight.

'Fuck you '

Why would she do this?

Drug me to sleep and then write this message to me.

I raked my fingers through my hair in stress but stopped as I heard a commotion outside.

Stepping to my window, I saw the dogs she loved dearly, barking as if they were rabid.

I had grown fond of them purely because of her, but now I think they will be useful with finding out exactly where she's gone.

Flying down to the outside where the dogs were supposed to be, I looked for them, expecting to see them running berserk but instead they're tied to a pole with leads and practically choking themselves trying to follow something.

Or someone.

Eagerly, I let them off the leashes and they immediately started sprinting off into the forest and I followed them with ease.

They ran in a group, noses in the air but after a few minutes they start to slow down, now sniffing the ground trying to pick up a scent of possibly her but ended up with nothing.

Whining for her, they looked around confused and then back at me, and with that I shook my head and whistled to the house.

It was the command that they return to their stations which they reluctantly did.

I flew back the mansion and I paced in my thoughts.

She wouldn't have to reason to run away from here, not after all I've done for her, with her. After I showed her my true feelings for her, opened up to her.

Walking through the mansion, I could sense the thick tension I caused in the air flowing throughout the halls, but it was broken as there was a sudden tap on my shoulder.

"What?" I snapped and turned my head to see Xavier with worry covering his face, it grows more when he sees I'm not with her.

"We couldn't find her anywhere Francis." he says with furrowed eyebrows. "But one of the workers may know where she is, or exactly who took her. Someone must know something,"

My fists clench, knowing I'm not there, beside her, to protect her. And I nod my head, ordering that he brings everyone one on the premises to the hall.

"Prepare a meeting."

Within minutes everyone in this mansion was in the hall and looking up to me on the podium, with me glaring down at all of them at centre stage.

Any one of these people could be the cause of her disappearance and I was going to make them pay for it, one way or another.

All my subjects were now quiet and looking up to me, wondering about the sudden meeting.

"Today, it has come to my attention that your Queen has gone missing." I announce and the whole room is scattered with gasps and whispered.

"And I know that one of you had something to do with it" I accuse.

Saying this causes murmurs to go around the room. My firsts curl in anger as no one was coming forward, but what did I expect?

These humans were too scared of me to share any of the information they might now, but now they were talking among themselves, discussing theories, or the truth.

Just what I wanted.

I could listen to the conversation in between workers and gunmen, maids and trainers.

From what I heard, there were rumours circulating around that she could've been taken by the second gang, to get leverage and take our spot as number one in the criminal economy.

But all my thoughts froze, and I heard a scoff and then the same voice following it.

"You wish."

My eyes went to the culprit and landed on a small girl. She has only been here for two years but none the less I put her in charge of Valentina for events and her dress ups. She seemed quiet and shy; this was what I least expected from her. What was her name again?

"Taraji." I called out and my voice boomed around the room, silencing it again.

She looked at me and we locked eyes as I started to walk towards her, the sea of my workers parting form me.

"Yes sir?" she asks but I twitched at the fact I didn't hear fear in her voice, but instead annoyance.

"Would you mind repeating what you just said to the whole room?" I ask her, remaining in eye contact, daring her to say it.

"You wish," she spat, and I smiled, a smile filled with anger, feeling a vein of my forehead bulging out.

"Meaning?" I snap and take one step closer to her, but she doesn't back down.

"Oh, you know what I mean." she snaps, and I eye her down coldly. "You know you're the one that made her runaway."

It felt like I froze in position as she said it.

What?

"And just why would you assume such a thing?" I ask, trying to not to yell.

"Because Valentina is the one who came crying to me after the party. Any of the guards outside the party can confirm that, but you can't because you were too busy, right? " She says her voice getting louder, echoing around the room.

"Too busy sleeping with that bitch! " She finally shouts, and the room and her eyes widen in anger, not leaving mine. "With Sienna Rossi."

The room erupts with gasp, and I could feel my eyes widen as she says it, fuming with anger. As I look around, I see Xavier and Quinn, looking at me with hurt and anger in their eyes. I see the guards that were there that nodded their heads to confirm it.

"She loved you! She thought she could trust you! And you went to sleep with what she thought was her friend- you're the one who drove her away!"

Tears were streaming down her face and all I could do was look at her in shock. She thinned her lips.

"And I didn't stop her."

Whispers. Rumours. Lies. That's all that could be heard.

"ENOUGH." I boom.

Everyone in the room falls silent as I walk through the crowd to escape it.

All of those lies.

They had to be lies.

Running to my office, I look at the letter.

Her letter. The grin on my mouth stretched sadistically with tears rolling from my eyes.

She wouldn't run from me, right?

A voice in my head tells me to check my safe so I do, only to find tens of thousands of dollars missing.

The phone on my desk rung and I picked it up in an instance, urning for it to me her but instead I'm greeted with the doctor's voice.

"Hi Mr Whitelock, I was calling to tell you that, due to running more tests, there seems to be another drug found in your system, Ecstasy- usually used to spike drinks. It seemed to have been very strong when you were first drugged, but it's faded- when did you last drink?"

My grip on the phone tightens and I remembered the last time I had a drink. Sienna offered it to me.

"Sir-" I quit the call and the phone broke in my grasp.

"FUCK." I yelled to myself and banged my fists on my desk.

I need to remember that night.

What did I do to her...?
