《Angel | ✓》33 - Freedom

What happened was last night- it was still fresh in my mind.
It felt like I was still outside that door, looking into the bedroom.
I don't know how or when Francis got back, frankly; I don't care.
I spent my time in a guest bedroom, but I didn't sleep after that night. When I heard the birds chirping, I looked outside to see that the sun was now rising.
The events of last night ran throughout my head yet again.
I caught them, ran out, cried in the forest, went back home and only told one person of the event of that night.
Stretching my arms, I hopped out of bed and went to what used to be our room. I creaked the door open a bit and saw him sleeping in bed alone, no shirt on. But it didn't have any effect on me anymore, what I had for him was crippled.
I shut the door and stepped back from the door, strutting down the hallway, I could see some eyes lingering at me, ones that saw me at the party yesterday.
I thinned my lips and walked faster and eventually came to the doctor's room. This was the only way.
I knew that in the room was sleeping drugs, sedatives, needles, and exactly what I needed for what I'm about to do.
It was guarded by two guards with rifles in hand and I pressed down the lump in my throat. Neither of them should know what happened last night. I dug my nails in my palm, nervously, behind my back.
"Francis sent me to get some sleeping pills since he's having a hard time with the hangover he has." I say sternly and the guards look at me, not an emotion in their eyes and I do the same back to them.
They nod in sync and move aside, allowing me to walk through and get what I needed. I skimmed through the shelves of pills and drugs and looked for the strongest.
Finally, I came along Rohypnol pills, and I smiled to myself, rushing out of the room, and thanking the guards.
As I was about to enter the kitchen, I was stopped by Quinn who held me to stop by the hand.
"Hey Val! What's the rush?" she says with a smile, and I could feel the pain in my heart growing rapidly.
"Uh, I-I'm getting some hangover soup for Francis, he had a rough night last night." I chuckled dryly but she just looked me up and down suspiciously.
"The guards said you left early?" She said but I remain my composure, although I was freaking out on the inside.
"Yes, that's why I want to do this for him" I smile, and she nods with the same expression and that's when I couldn't hold back and hugged her suddenly.
I could feel she was surprised, but she hugged me back. "What is it?" Quinn asks and I shake my head, quickly releasing her from the hug.

"Nothing."
I wait a moment before I look her in the eyes. "Bye."
Turning away, I practically sprinted away from her, leaving her alone and probably confused. I let a breath in as I entered the kitchen, inhaling the delicious smells. I went to a chef and asked for a hangover soup that was prepared within minutes.
Thanking the chefs and walking out the room, I walked to the room, bowl in hand and place it on the coffee table in front of his bed.
He wasn't in it, so I assumed he was outside of the room.
Setting the bowl aside, I popped the pills out of their packet and crushed them up until they consists of white powder.
He will probably be back in any second.
I scooped the powder into the soup quickly and watched as it looked to dissolve.
Would it work? I've never tried to drug someone before so I had no idea what I was doing, but I just have to try, it would be better than staying with him.
"What're you doing?" a gruff voice said behind me, and I flinched and turned around.
Speak of the devil.
He had come out of the bathroom and had a towel around his waist, staring down at me with a small smile.
"Just checking that your soup was to your tasting." I teased dryly. He couldn't tell the difference and laughed along with me.
"Thanks Angel." he says and puts his lips to my forehead before taking the soup off me and tasting it.
Francis scrunched his face up and looked into the bowel and then back at me. "Doesn't this taste bitter to you?" I shook my head, fake smile still plastered on my face.
He shrugs his shoulder and starts to drink it slowly from the bowel, and I watch him intently, seeing if he had any side effects already, but they weren't present. I guess he might tolerate or have a sort of immunity from his bird DNA.
I sat on the chair across from him and he sat there and started to finish his soup and put it back down. He looked me in the eyes and mine widened as he caught me staring. Francis got up from his chair and brung me out of my seat, laying me down next to him on his bed.
The bed dipped as he sat next to me and I forcibly rolled next to him, a real smile coming to my face as he yawned.
"Ah- I have a meeting in a few hours, but I need to sleep." he groans, and I smile at him as he roles to look at me.
"It's okay darling" I reassure running my hands through his hair one last time. "I'll cancel it for you." I could feel my smile crack, but he closed his eyes and I got up from the bed, leaving him alone.
I could hear that his heart rate had slowed meaning he was asleep. Finally, I got a backpack and packed it with just a few clothes, going to the door immediately when I was done.

Before I left, I glanced back at him, sleeping peacefully as if he didn't do what he did last night. My heart clenched as the scene replayed in my head.
He has Sienna now.
Walking in the hallway casually, people gave me kind glances, not aware of what I was about to do.
As I near my destination my hearts starts to beat faster, and my breaths quicken. As I was about to go and open the twin doors, I heard a quiet voice behind me.
"Valentina?" it said, and my hand stiffened on the door handle.
I turned around and came face to face with Tara.
Her face was filled with sadness and so was mine. Leaving the door, I went to hug her tightly. I could feel her tears dripping on my shoulders and I smiled sadly.
Tara was the one I ran into after I came home from the party. She saw my tear-stained face and I broke down then and there, telling her everything. She was mad at Francis and sad for me which I told her not to be, but she was anyway. I told her what I wanted to do.
"Are you really going to leave?" she uttered, and I nodded slowly, stepping back from her grasp.
"Thanks for everything" I mumble and finally turn away from her, still listen to her sniffles.
Turning the handle, I enter the room and close the door behind me, I look at the grand place. Francis's office.
From what I've heard, this is the place where all of his work goes and where he stores his money. No one has dared to look for his money his has hidden but I was going to break that today.
I started at his desk and rustled through the draws hurriedly, he had to keep his money somewhere.
As I looked through the papers scattered on his desk and felt something cold pass my hand, and I quickly turn my head to see a small key hidden.
This could be useful.
Moving onto the books, I started to push books in and out one by one trying to see if there was a latch or something.
Paying attention to my surroundings only made it worse as I could hear the workers walking around, talking. They could walk in on me any second.
The thought hurried my pace as I sped through the books, tilting them, and putting them back.
As I was about the move one of the last ones of a shelf, I saw a glint of something and double took to a thick book with a velvet colour.
When I looked past it, I could see that the book was covering the cupboard lock and I moved it so I could see it clearly.
A safe.
At further inspection, I saw that the lock needed a key. Lifting up the one I found, I tried it and just when I though it wouldn't work, there was a click, and I could feel more hope in my body.
Quickly opening the safe, I was greeted with the sight of stacks and stack of bills, all together in the hidden safe.
A smile crawled onto my face, and I quickly grabbed nearly 10 stacks of the money, but still leaving plenty left.
Stuffing my bag, I looked around the office once more, seeing if I could steal anything else.
My eyes crawled to his desk scatters with papers, a smile trailing along my lips.
Why not give him a little puzzle?
I snickered to myself as I stepped back from his desk, overviewing my work. I twirled the pen in my hand and paused. Staring at the black ink in it, before I put it into my backpack.
"Just a little memento" I utter and walk back to the wall window, directly behind his desk.
It was opened and I stared at it for minutes.
It was the window open to my freedom.
I go and slip through the window, turning to fly away, the only way being on the roof, but I was about to be taken by the wind, I heard three barks course together and when I looked down, I could see three dots of fluff and when I went to move to the right, they followed me again.
I sigh to myself before dropping down to the dogs.
They run to me and jump up to me, but I push them off quickly, making them confused. I looked around hurriedly and with my luck, I could see leashes hung on a brick wall and a picket sticking out of the ground.
Tying the dogs up to the picket with the ropes, they whined as I left, and I clenched my fists.
Why did I have to make so many relationships here? It was a mistake. All of it.
A single tear escaped my eye and I turned back to the dogs, making their little faces light up. Patting each one of them on the head, they barked in delight, only making my sad smile deepen.
Letting go of them, they whined but I turned and spread my wings before I could hear any of them protest.
The sound of the wind fills my head, and the gush of fresh air brushes away my shed tears. I didn't want to leave, but I know that I wouldn't be able to stand next to that man, ever trusting him again, to love me and not break my heart.
It was his fault. Not mine.
What I'm doing is because of him. He's the one who brought me here in the first place.
And I will never fall for anyone. Anyone like him again.
