《Angel | ✓》29 - Ballroom Dancing

All of it felt so surreal.

It felt like a dream...

His lips on mine and a crowd cheering from the view.

As we both pulled away, both of our breaths heavy, and I smile as I stare into his eyes. I kept questioning whether I do truly love him and even though my mind was screaming no, my heart had already fallen head over heels for him.

Francis hugs my waist tenderly as I laid my hands on his chest and he rose his hand and turned us to the crowd, earning another applaud from the large crowd.

We were on top of the balcony of imperial stairs in the ballroom and it felt like I was on top of the world. As we both walked down the spiralling stairs, there were couples congratulating us and welcoming me to their family which I thanked them for.

Francis introduced me to other minor gang leaders, but they seemed extremely less intimidating than Francis, which I found kind of reassuring, maybe it's not all bad out there.

I was having a great time, until Francis had to leave to discuss with business trades with other, which I understood, but now I was lonely.

Wandering around, I spotted the buffet and instantly went over, to stuff my face with the tiny pastries that were laying on fancy cake stands.

As I had my mouth full, I heard a high-pitched gasp behind me and when I turned around, I was greeted with a pearly white smile and smiled back as I realised who it was.

"Sienna!" I say opening my arms and hugging her.

We both exited from our embrace and immediately started to complement each other's dresses. Sienna was wearing a hot pink dress with lace tailing the edges, and it was defiantly her colour. She had matching eyeshadow, wing eyeliner and straightened hair.

"I love you're dress Valentina! You have to tell me where you got it!" she said sweetly, but when I said I just got it from Francis- I swear- I saw her eyes darken for a second but return to their bubbly state.

She suggested that we go sit down and we did so on a side couch. It felt like I could talk for hours with Sienna, even though she talked about herself a lot, I didn't mind. It was interesting to learn about others life.

"But enough about me!" she stays stopping her rant and turning to me. "What is Francis like?"

What? I stared at her, sort of dumbfound. Why did she need to know about Francis? Sienna could see I was confused and immediately waved her hands nervously.

"Sorry if that sounded weird, I mean what is it like to be with the supernatural, top gang leader?" she explains in a duh tone and I nod my head, more understanding now.

"It's okay I guess, I've never seen him as a terrifying character, he just has trouble controlling his emotions." I rant on but I could see that Sienna was starting to look bored so I tried to lighten the conversation, but before I could, someone cleared their throat in front of us, and we looked up to see Quinn, glaring at Sienna with her arms crossed.

I smiled at her and invited her to sit, but instead, Quinn pulled me up by the arm and next to her instead of Sienna. The two were glaring at each other as if looks could kill. It lasted like that for a minute before Quinn turned to me.

"Could I borrow you for a minute, Val?" Quinn asked, her voice sounding slightly eager so I nodded but before I could say goodbye to Sienna, the red head dragged me away.

"What was that about?" I ask Quinn when she finally stopped and let me stand on my own two feet.

"What's your business with Sienna?" she retorted stiffly, and I stared at her, oblivious to what was going on.

Quinn could see this and rubbed the bridge of her nose, obviously not liking that I didn't know something, but she just placed her hand on my shoulder and looked into my eyes sincerely.

"I'm sorry for acting like this. I want to tell you why but it's not my place. Just ask Francis what happened with Sienna." Quinn demanded and I nodded quickly, wanting to know what the problem was.

She could see that I was in destress, so she changed the subject which I gladly followed along with. We admired other dresses but stepped into the crowd as we realised that there was a crowd forming around couples that were standing hand in hand and starting to dance.

Quinn and I pushed to the front of the circle but as soon as we were in view of the crowd. Quinn was soon taken by Xavier, and they danced on the floor whilst I watched from the sidelines. There were about 10 couples twirling around and all I could do was admire their graciousness.

As I was about to walk away, I'm stopped by a hand being held to me. Looking up to the owner and saw a smug face which I instantly smiled to.

"I believe I owe you a dance, my love" he says and kisses my hand before holding it in his own and throwing ourselves into the dancing.

Looking around, I took in that everyone was waltzing so I followed their actions.

Francis and I glided around the floor smoothly. Our gaze not leaving each other's eyes. The music started to get more intense, and everyone followed along with the rhythm, spreading out and coming closer.

There is a climax in the music and the couples suddenly come off the floor and leave only Francis and I circling around the room. I looked around at the sudden movement as people stare at us in awe.

"I may have pulled a few strings so we could get the last dance." Francis snicker as a whisper into my ear, his warm breath pushing against my skin, forcing the blood to my cheeks.

I looked away from his gaze, being too embarrassed to stare at him any longer, but when I looked into the crowd, I saw Sienna. I was about to smile at her before I saw that she was holding a wine glass tightly and when I looked at her face, it held anger, jealously.

Looking back at Francis, I couldn't help but think of what Quinn told me.

'Just ask Francis what happened with Sienna.'

"Has anything happened with Sienna, Francis?" I ask randomly and I could instantly feel him tense, and his hold on my hands tighten.

"Why? Did she say something to you?" he says, almost sounding panicked but I shook by head vigorously before he could make assumptions.

"No, but when I was with her, Quinn looked... scared and told me that you would know why?" I say quietly, not wanting to aggravate him.

"She's..." he seemed lost for words with how much that girl angered him.

"She was in love with me. No matter how much times I would reject her, she would always come back, begging for my love, but I refused. One day, it pushed her over the edge hearing 'no' yet again, so she... killed a raven. I was disgusted by the act, the same bird that shared my DNA, she killed for her proclaim of love." he says, his words dripping with disgust. "I told her that she will never have my love, not even for a night. And with that she stayed away from me."

I thinned my lips as his eyes turned emotionless, not wanting to reveal anything. I knew he was hurt as I could hear his head slow. I rested my head on his chest, wanting to listen to his heart closer and felt it speed up. A smile played on my lips when I saw that Francis's eyes were now filled with love, looking at me.

Distracted by the tension between Francis and I, I was pulled out my daze when the crowd erupted into applause. I realised that the song was now over, and I took one hand into Francis's and curtsied, bowing my head to the gang members.

Both Francis and I exited and walked back to the stairs that overlooked the ballroom and I smiled as I felt his chest leaning onto me from behind.

Everything in that moment seemed so perfect, like I was meant to be here.

It passed as a guard tapped Francis's shoulder and he got hauled away for a trade that he must make.

"I'm sorry Angel, I'll be back soon, don't move." he says before kissing me and leaving me by myself.

I got a champagne glass from a servant and leant on the marble pillars that looked over the room. There were happy couples dancing and smiles scattered everywhere, at first glance it would look like a happy place but at further inspection, there are guns pinned to men's belts and small bags being slid into other's hands, recovering the shady businesses here.

As I admired the elegant place, there was a tap on my shoulder and when I turned around to see who it was, I saw a young man standing before me, wearing a white tuxedo along with a clean smile.

He held out his hand and I shook it carefully, knowing that I shouldn't be too friendly in a place like this.

"Ah... forgive me, my name is Connor Markley. I'm a visitor in this grand place tonight." he says and retreats his hand from my grasp and partially bows.

He doesn't seem that bad, right?

"I'm here to say that I have a gift for you, but it is in the room that I'm staying in tonight." he says, and I could feel my gut saying not to go, but for whatever reason I did.

I knew there were guards behind me, that Francis had ordered to protect me, so I felt a little better.

We arrived at a pair of doors and Connor opened them for me but when the guards tried to follow, he held up a hand and denied them entry to the room. The pair looked at me, following for my command and I nodded that the stay outside the door, and that is what they do.

I looked around the room, facing my back to Connor. It was quite beautiful and large for a guest bedroom, but I guess that's just the standard of the gang house.

As I'm admiring, I hear a click. A gun being cocked.

I spin around to see Connor holding a gun pointed at me. He's trembling and shaking, his eyes filled with fear. I scream for the guards but as I looked passed the arm man, there a chair pushed against the door, so the door is blocked.

The gun trembles in his hands and there are tears staining streaming from his eyes. I raise both of my hands and edge closer to him, trying to calm him down.

"C-Connor?" I say, my voice cracking in the process, my voice full of fear. "You don't have to do this."

His eyes meet mine and we both have eyes glossed of tears. Lips trembling, he urges himself to speak. "Oh, but I do..." his tone is weary.

He moves his hands, so both are holding the gun and it's directed at my head. I can hear the guards banging on the door, demanding to open it now. They yelled and kicked the door, but it didn't work. They weren't going to save me in time.

I back away from him urgently.

But I was interrupted by a bang.
