《Angel | ✓》9 - Inmate

"Mmm," I moaned into my pillow with a smile, as the sun shone on my bed. The birds were tweeting by the window, with a happy tune making my smile grow even more.
I rolled over and face-planted into my pillow again before letting in a big inhale and exhale. It felt like I was in heaven as I snuggled into the plush bedsheets I was sprawled in.
I turned sideways, slightly squinting open my eyes, to see a window with a lounge in front of it, with silk pink pillows with matching lining and a lush, green forest outside of it.
The bed I was laid in, had surrounded me with delicate curtains. My mind was fussing fussy, and I had to blink a few times to clear my head, and once I did, all my memory was restored.
This wasn't my room. I quickly got out of the bed to get a better look at my surroundings, only to stumble to the floor, hissing in pain.
Looking down at my left leg to see a dark burn mark running alone my lower leg, some of the skin peeling off already.
Francis and the fire!
After I had been thrown across the room, the air had been forced out of me and fire spread quickly, trapping me in a corner. My consciousness dulled and I closed my eyes, unable to keep them open but soon after I could smell him.
Through all the burning crisp through the air, I smelt his mucky scent. And the smell overwhelmed me once I was pushed to his chest. It was then that I let myself go, I had been fighting for consciousness in the flames, but once he was in his presence, I trusted him to keep me safe.
And now I defiantly wasn't in a hospital room.
He had taken me.
I quickly off the floor, ignoring the burning pain in my leg. Taking a quick glance at the room I looked at the bed I was set on. It was a luxurious canopy bed, with pillars at the corners of the bed, and see-through silk draped from the top. This defiantly wasn't my house. Turning around the rest of the room, there were three doors. Two were placed next to each other and another was on another wall and looked to be the main door.
I walked to it, turning the handle but it clicks, indicating that I was trapped in there.

A plan was forming in my mind quickly. If he thought that he could take advantage of me, he thought too highly of himself.
Before I checked any of the doors I pushed the window open, letting all the air and sounds outside and into the room, to make it seem like I had jumped out the window.
I strode to the doors that were side by side, opening the left one first. I gasped as a full marble bathroom was revealed to me. There were twin sinks and a wide mirror above them, and to each side, a waterfall shower, and a bathtub, carved into the floor. And out of all of it, nowhere to hide.
I ran to the next room and scoped out the place. It was a walk-in wardrobe and probably bigger than my apartment bedroom. Walking past the rakes of clothing, there were blazers, dress shirts, dresses, and clothes for any type of event. The wardrobes were nailed to the walls, circling me in the room and a glazed cabinet in the middle showcased a variety of expensive-looking jewellery.
And that's when I heard the entrance door of the room creak open and a muffled sigh. There were heavy footsteps around the room, probably belonging to 3 or 4 people, before I heard a yell, commanding something and the people rushed out of the room again, door banging behind them.
I smiled to myself and let out a quiet sigh of held breath but paused as I heard another pair of footsteps start to walk around the room again.
Without thinking, I slid into a small cabinet, leaving the door only slightly ajar to hear the sounds of the outside. He couldn't know that I was still here.
The bathroom door creaked open and there were echoed steps around it before I could hear the door close again.
I was suffocating under my breath at this point since I'd been holding my breath for this long and I was still weak from the smoke clogging my lungs in the fire. But I needed to find a place to hide. And fast. I looked around the wooden wardrobe. I need something fast, but he had entered the room already.
His steps paced around the room. The figure was getting closer, and I held my mouth with my hand, so I had no chance of letting out any sounds.

He stopped. My eyes widened as he stopped in front of my hiding place. My heart was pacing against my ribcage; I didn't want my life to end like this.
But before I could make my next move, he scoffed and continued to work, humming happily.
I waited a few minutes before I moved my head and pushed the door open, just enough to see if anyone was still there.
The coast was clear. I quietly tiptoed out of it, staring at the closed door and I walked around the wardrobe a bit more, debating if I should even go outside.
There was no possible way of getting out of here, there were no windows and no other frames to sneak out of. So, the only way out was this door.
I quietly opened the door and stepped out looking to the window to see that it was now closed and had a lock on it. Damn it.
I stepped out into the middle of the room. It is really beautiful, I was going to explore it more, but all of my thoughts stop, and my blood runs cold. From the voice that I heard behind me.
"Smart move, Angel" the husky voice snickered near my ear.
I quickly spun around, like a deer caught in headlights, to see that he was now standing in front of me, looming over me with a dark smile on his face.
"But not smart enough. I know someone like you wouldn't jump down from that height." he continued.
I slowly backed away from him, making him step closer. I eventually stepped back so much that I hit a pillar of the bed, I looked back at it and then back at the man to see him standing and staring at me.
My fingers clenched to the pillar behind me, resisting the urge to punch the criminal, knowing he could overpower me easily.
He had changed from the orange overalls into a white buttoned shirt, a blazer to cover it and trousers. He looked very different, and his hair was pushed to the side making him look even more handsome. My eyes widened as the thought crossed my head, but my mind went blank as he reached out to me, just to pick up a strand of my hair and intertwine his finger with it.
I just wanted this to be over with. I thought as I hung my head down and stood there, waiting for him to do whatever he wanted to do to torment me.
"I won't hurt you." he plainly stated, which made my body freeze. What?
I carefully looked up to see his furrowed eyebrows back to their casual look and his blush lips pushed into a thin line.
"How's your leg?" he asked, trying to start a conversation.
I looked down at it and stared at it before coming to my senses. I wouldn't succumb to a man like him.
"It's fine." I snapped and slapped his hand away from my hair. Though, I couldn't look him in the eye. They were so piercing, and I could probably remember what they looked like even though I couldn't see them currently.
My head was still down, and my hair was stranded over my face, but as I slightly looked up, I saw that his wings were gone. I thought of how this could be a dream as I quickly turned my head, so he couldn't see that I was looking.
He chuckled deeply as if he could read my mind and answered my question.
"They fold perfectly with human clothes," he explained, humour in his voice.
Slyly looking up at him, I nodded, and his eyes widened at my sudden glance. Making him look away quickly, covering his face with his right hand, red peeking out of the side of his face.
After a few moments, he walked toward me quickly making me flinch.
"Follow me." He demanded.
My guard was dropped after he said that. Maybe he wasn't so bad. But I wasn't going to let that affect what I was already dead set on.
I was going to escape this place no matter what. It may be a stupid idea for some. But I wasn't about to become friends with Francis Whitelock. And I wasn't a fool, I know I was just another victim to him, if I asked him to leave me, he would probably leave me to rot in a cell.
He was a criminal, and I was just a normal girl who needed freedom
And that's how I wanted it to stay.
