《Angel | ✓》4 - Cameras

Overall yesterday's session with Francis was casual, but I couldn't wrap my head around why he wanted to know who hurt my neck. It was useless for him since he wasn't even allowed around other prisoners.
It was my break time and Keisha's too, so we were both sitting at her desk when there was a sudden scream in the prisoner's cell block.
Both me and Keisha jumped out of our seats at the loud sound and were about to rush to the scene when a security guard stopped us when we reached a certain hallway.
"Sorry girls, I can't let you through," he said, zero sympathies in his voice as he supposedly apologised.
"Who was hurt?" I demanded in a low voice, glaring at him as he did the same. He just sighed, not answering my question.
"If it's one of our patients then we have the right to see what's wrong, we could know what happened!" I said in an agitated voice, and it was enough to make him finally answer me.
"Alex Santiago," he said coldly, and my eyebrows furrowed together. I heard Keisha grunt, but I gasped and pushed my way past the guard, making him give me a cold stare.
What happened to Alex? I ran through the hallways, following the yells of pain and pushing past the large crowd of guards in a small place when I got to a corner that I was about to turn, but was instantly stopped by the sight that was in front of my eyes.
Alex was there, back against a wall and laying in a pool of blood, with a knife sticking out of his chest. Blood oozed out of his body and he was groaning in pain as he laid there on the floor. All the medics were rushing around the injured man, and the guards were running around, trying to find who did it.
"How did they get a weapon!?" one yelled
"Get every prisoner back in their cells!" another one ordered
"Who did it!?" all of them were asking.
Even though my body was frozen in shock, my mind was running. I already knew who did it. It had to be.
Running back from the scene, I could see the guard and Keisha still bickering and as soon as the man saw me he scoffed.
"I knew you couldn't handle something like-" he started but I cut him off by pushing past him and dragging Keisha along with me.
All the guards were so distracted by the commotion going on near Alex, that they left no one to guard the security camera room.
"What are you doing!" she shouted in a whisper.
let go of her hand that I had dragged her with and slowed down in front of the door.
Security Footage Room was labelled
I looked at her and she did the same to me but with a shocked expression.
"No!" she whispered, knowing it wasn't allowed for psychiatrists to go in, but I nodded looking back at the door.
"I'm sure that I know who it is. I need to see if it's true Keisha!" I exclaimed before I quickly walked in.
Keisha sighed, knowing that if I went down in trouble, she may as well too.
The room was furnished with two metal, tall cabinets, probably filled with records and a desk that had a multiple screened laptop, its light being the only one in the room'
There was live and old footage stored in the software and cameras were covered in a place like this. I knew all I had to do was find one where Alex was in it.

I kept flicking through different screens, as Keisha watched beside me.
"There!" she pointed out one tape where Alex was walking down the hall but walked around a corner, out of the camera's sight again.
I flicked to the next one and saw that Alex walking down the same hall I saw him in, a guard at his right-hand side. They were now in the same place Alex was laying in when I saw him.
I watched on intently, feeling my hand become clammy on the mouse in my hand.
Another guard appeared on the screen, his head was bowed down, angled perfectly to avoid the camera's view and I knew that was intentional. Both of the man's hands were in his pockets, an object obviously in his left.
His stride was strong as he passed the pair and once he passed them fully, everything went into action.
As the mysterious man lifted a knife out of his pocket there was a tattoo in his hand. It was the same one that Francis had on his hip. I bit my lower lip as my mind pieced everything together. The guard holding Alex turned around too late as the handle of the knife was in view and hit the worker in the back of the head, making him fall to the floor with a loss of consciousness.
The traitor then charged at Alex, aiming at Alex's heart with the weapon but with Alex trying to run, he missed and hit his chest. Alex's mouth opened in pain, but since there's no audio, you couldn't hear the scream coming from his mouth.
The guard picked the weaker up by the shirt collar and held him inches from his face, allowing me to only see a glimpse of emerald, green eyes. He must've said something horrible enough to give Alex the guts to headbutt Francis to let him go and start screaming for help again.
He then ran away from the scene, disappearing within a second, but leaving the bloody knife in place of the prisoner's body that slowly fell to the wall.
The videotape was then filled with scenes I had already witnessed before.
I turned it off and saw the astonished face that Keisha was staring at me. I grabbed the USB drive that was in the computer and slid it into my pocket. I tried to run out of the room to where I needed to go, now, but Keisha put her hand on my wrist.
"Please.. don't go to him" she pleaded. If only she didn't know me too well.
"I need to do this, for the safety of us and others," I pleaded to her which just made her scrunch up her face more.
"Fine," she dropped her hand and I smiled, running out of the room to the cell, not waiting to see her reaction.
Running into the careful place, the silence sent chills down my spine, but I endured and walked to where I had seen his door on the first day.
His room was the only place that wasn't deserted by guards. There were two armed with guns standing there, and their view of me was that I was a weak girl. So, they weren't too sure when I demanded to be let in.
"We're not sure the boss would let us do that." one of them said, looking at the other, just making me glare at them more.
"Well, she's the one who set me up for this and what I'm doing is confidential."
I heard the one that I wasn't looking at snicker and my eyes snapped to him, giving him another glare, which quickly shut him up.

"Listen, lady-"
"Dr Rider," I stated and he just stared at me
"What?" he said, clearly irritated
"My name is Valentina Rider, not 'lady', and I assure you Mrs Carol isn't a patient one. You could get fired too" I sneered, and yes I was telling the truth. Half of it.
"Dude, listen to her," the guard with sense said and he finally moved to the side and unlocked the door for me.
"Thank you," I said peacefully and walked inside, making sure that they closed the door as I went inside.
I let out a deep breath and finally look at Francis to see him looking at me with a devious smirk plastered across his face as he looked at me.
His legs were spread widely, stretching the orange jumpsuit over his body to tighten.
"Very sweet to see that you're fighting with people just to see me Ang-" he started getting up with his arms open, but I put my index finger up and he instantly stopped, but still held up his smirk.
"One. You know it's Dr Rider, not, Angel." I started, now holding up two fingers.
"Two. Why did you try to kill Alex?" I hissed, hoping this would mean something to him but unfortunately his smirk just got bigger.
"Ah, you're smart I see but you're mistaken, I didn't try to kill anyone?" he chuckled and added after. "Say, did you happen to see the footage from the cameras?"
On his bench, he slid down, intentionally let his strait jacket slide up and let me see the gang's symbol on his bare skin.
"Yes I saw the footage and no I am not mistaken, and you know it! But it still doesn't explain why you did that to someone like him!" I yelled and the smirk on his face fell to a scowl, and he lifted himself off the chained bed to the wall and stepped closer to me, making me freeze in position.
"And why do you care? You've heard about what I've done, the people I've killed, this is just an piece of it. So why do you care now?" he said, the space around him turning dark and the scowl on his face becoming crueller by the second.
"Because.." he was so close and I was so shocked by his reaction that I was lost, but I quickly collected myself. But how was I supposed to when he was looking at me like that?
"It's one thing to hear and then to see. And Alex is a patient of mine, and if anyone deserves not to be stabbed it's him."
"But he hurt you." He growled looking straight into my eyes. Oh, so this is what it's about?
"It's just a bruise Francis.." I tried to reason, chuckling dryly, but he just turned around walking back to his seat in the shadows, turning to me once he was still.
"And it's just a knife in the chest" he smiled sickly, and I let out a sigh.
"What if you got the wrong Alex then?" Still trying to make him notice his actions were serious but he just returned it with a snicker.
"That wouldn't stop me. I would just try and try again," he said in a dark, unhumorous tone.
Wow.
I can leave this conversation for the next session, and the guards outside are probably getting suspicious of how long I'm spending in here.
"Well then, next time I won't try to save your ass," I mumbled as I dug the USB drive out of my pocket and threw it across the room to Francis, which he caught without a flinch. Eyes never breaking from mine.
"Thanks Angel, always know I can count on you," he said with a smile and kisses the USB whilst maintaining eye contact with me, which I slightly returned before nearly walking out of the door. Nearly.
"One more thing," he said making my jaw clench and my fingers dig into my palms.
"Yes?" I ask through gritted teeth.
"Make sure that Alex doesn't tell anyone about what I did or there will be consequences." His voice turns dark once more.
"Exactly why I gave you the drive," I stated plainly before walking out of the cell calmly.
I didn't stop to farewell the guards or anything, but as I walked away I could hear them gossiping with each other.
"She didn't get hurt?"
"What were they doing in there?"
Great! I just really hope that they don't decide to consult Mrs Carol about this to find out if I was telling the truth or not! They even have my name, but there's no turning back now. I just have to deal with it if it comes my way.
As I strutted down the hallways, it was a long walk to go to the medical ward, but it had to be done and soon enough, I found the room where Alex was being medicated in and went in. His heart rate monitors looked good and steady, and so did his breathing rate.
I walked closer and he wearily squinted open his eyes and a small frown appeared on his face. But it wasn't anger, it was regret.
I took a seat beside him, and he tilted his head slightly to make eye contact with me.
"Why have you come to visit me," he croaked, and I could hear the sadness in his voice. "After what I did to you."
"Because it's not your fault that you had that outburst. I found out that it's a weekly occurrence not randomly" I smiled down, but it turned to a frown as I remembered what I was here to do. Looking down into my lap, and fiddling with my fingers, I finally looked up at him and spoke the truth.
"But there's another reason I came here Alex," I said in a straight tone making him look at me wearily.
"Francis... I know he was the reason behind why you were wounded and I know you probably want to rat him out, so bad.. but you can't. If you do he'll go after you and make sure he gets the job done. And he will hurt so many people surrounding you and me. So please... please don't tell anyone" I begged him, making his head turn away from me.
It was silent for a minute, but I could tell that he was still debating on whether he should rat me out or stay quiet. I knew I was testing my luck and was pressuring him so I started to get up and exit the room, but before I could, he said his answer.
"I won't tell anyone. You've done so much for me, and I want to make it up to you. Just make sure that boy won't try and kill me again."
I smile spread across my face as I turned to look at him.
"Will do," I said before walking out the door.
Walking down the hall, it's quiet and empty- excluding the beeps of monitors echoing down the halls- and I breathe to myself quietly.
My head is down but it tilts when I hear approaching footsteps. Making eye contact with the man, I shivered, and I recognised him instantly.
The guard from before, his emerald eyes.
My pace picked up as I walked past him, I could even feel his eyes burning the back of my head when he stopped walking to look at me.
Today wasn't the best day.
But I'm sure that there were a lot worse ones that are coming my way.
