《Tears of Blood ✔》XLI - The Vampire

I gripped the weapons harshly in my hand, half expecting to walk back out into the main areas of fighting and need to shift. After what I had seen just simply making my way to Master Skotus, we had gravely underestimated their power.

I made my move, noticing someone completely caught up in a fight with a siren lurking over their shoulder.

I barely did anything, slicing the opponent from the behind as she mercilessly began to bash the Bloodlust warrior to a bloody pulp on the floor.

Then, all of a sudden, it was like clockwork, and a feeling that I knew too well.

Every organisation member in the vicinity stopped, their eyes pale and thoughtless as a silent order ran through their minds. Not that we could hear it, of course, an order, since the others were dead, coming directly from Madame Beaudeline. A creeping voice in their ear, as if a snake had wrapped itself around their throat to enforce orders.

A fraction of a second later, they were gone, dashing to the nearest hole in the ground before slithering down and disappearing into the depths of the Earth.

On noticing me, everyone moved their glance, waiting and obviously expecting some sort of instruction. I pushed my shoulders back and sheathed my weapons,

"Take yourselves home, "I barked loudly, my voice echoing over everyone. "If your home has been in any way damaged, go to a hotel, Luna's orders, free of charge. Please, keep yourself updated and stay alert, not only for the next few hours but for the next few days. I'm sure the Alpha will address you soon." A quick salute before they started to disperse, suddenly clearing out the entire area.

The Alpha; Alexander, Vance, Farren. I needed to find them. Locate them on this mess of a maze-like battlefield.

Could it even be called that? Perhaps a half-hour of attacking and fighting and it was over. Just another ploy to weaken us for the final blow.

Still, the damage that had been done was incomparable. Even the thought of staring at any of these completely destroyed buildings, or organising the funerals for the countless dead brought an ache to my chest, and an even sicker feeling to my stomach.

I sighed before I started to get to work. Finding Alexander. It was such a regular occurrence now that I could do it with ease, reaching far into myself and latching my hands around the string that tied him and I together. I followed it dutifully, each step feeling as if it were pre-planned, my mind not even thinking about it before I took a range of twists and turns. As I went, I saw people sobbing over corpses, some even desperately filling the holes with soil, tears rimming their eyes.

And this was only the beginning.

A hand grabbed my arm, "Thank god, do you know where the others are?" Farren wheezed, dirt caked on her face.

I couldn't even blink. "Finding them now," I said, "Come on, it's better we don't stop."

She didn't argue, gulping as her fingernails dug deeply into my bicep. There was a slight limp in her walk, had she too be injured? Or were our bodies sick of the constant fights and were simply trying to stop further damage.

As I walked, I was able to see just how far this fight had expanded itself across the pack, taking up nearly a whole portion of the western side. I refused to let myself think of the casualties, of the money that we would need to even make a dent in repairs. But all of that would come later, come after we had stamped the Organisation out of existence, permanently.

Then, I heard a wailing scream.

And it sounded exactly like Vance.

My mind started racing, was he injured? Had something happened? I dropped the bond and started running in that direction instead, my feet pounding against the ground. One corner and I could see him, completely crouched down as his body rocked, his hand wrapped around the pale, lifeless one of a girl. While I couldn't see her face, a sick feeling arose within me.

My blood went cold, No, it couldn't be.

I slid against the ground, mud running up my knees as I laid myself down against the body.

Harmony.

I picked up her other hand, running my eyes over her body to try and find the injury, the reason that she was already so dead already against the grassy floor.

"I don't even know why she came out," Vance cried, his voice completely muddled. "She came out of nowhere, jumped in front of me and took the hit. I don't, I don't,-"

I then found it, the bloody pinpricks on her neck. Her body had gone completely pale and her breathing had stopped. I couldn't even hear a heartbeat.

She was a corpse,

Well and truly dead.

All I could do was breathe a sigh of relief.

"She'll be alright," I whispered, "She'll be fine."

Vance turned to me, "How could you say that? My mate is dead and you're telling me she'll be ok?"

"Focus for a moment Vance, is the bond still there?" I asked him calmly. "Tell me, can you still feel it?

He did exactly what I said, pausing before his body relaxed, almost as if he were about to faint. "What does it mean? She has no heartbeat."

"She's been bitten by a vampire. The reason that she has no heartbeat is because she's dead." I said, moving my position to instead pin Harmony's arm against the ground. "But she's human. If she was a wolf, this would be a very different situation, but it's not. So yes, she's dead. Quite dead if her looks mean anything. The only thing is, is that she's going to come back."

"Fuck," Farren swore under her breath, "What does that mean?"

I shrugged, tapping my fingers against Harmony's neck just to check, "It means that the Bloodlust Beta female will be a Vampire, and she'll probably take her steak blue over well done."

"How long?" Vance then asked, "Until she comes back,"

"Who knows, sometimes it's within a minute, sometimes more. I think it's best that we stay outside until she does, which means staying with her and keeping her stuck to the floor, and for goddess sake, pin her arm against the ground. We need to keep control so she doesn't go off flying when she wakes up."

I turned around to Farren, "Find a cup or something that she'll be able to drink out of and fill it with blood. Where from doesn't matter, just as long as its blood. She'll need some the moment she wakes up and if we don't provide it, she'll end up latching to the throat of whoever's closer. She'll have no control, so we definitely don't want that."

Farren saluted. "Give me five minutes."

I nodded as she ran off, then shifting my focus back onto Harmony.

I wish I knew how to tell how much longer it would take before she would reawaken. There wasn't too much that needed to go into the process on our end. I had sat through a couple of humans turning to Vamps while locked in Madame Beaudelines dungeons. It would happen when the person's body had accepted the vampire venom, and then they would be ravenous, unable to do anything until they connected with blood.

It never ended well for the person in the cell next to them.

Once they had that dosage of blood, however, they seemed to be relatively normal. Accompanied, of course, by random bursts of desperation for the seemingly sweet, red liquid. But a recovery stage was different for everyone. It could be nothing like I had seen with all those people, or, it could be a carbon copy of the situation. You never could truly know until you were in the moment.

Farren returned just as quickly as she had promised, a plastic solo cup filled with blood in her hands.

"When she wakes up, get this down her throat as quickly as possible." I instructed, "Vance and I will keep her down by the arm to make sure that she doesn't attack you or anything."

Farren nodded, moving herself into the position.

I felt my chest tug, and as I turned around, Alexander was running towards us, Myra and Ti both hot on his trails.

He immediately took the place next to me, "What's happened? Quick, geet us up to date."

"She's been bitten," I said quickly, "But Harmony's human, so she'll come back as a vampire. We can't move from this position until she wakes up, it's too dangerous otherwise. Since you guys are here, Xander and Myra, you keep her torso still and Ti, clamp down on Harmony's feet. The less she can move, the easier time Farren will have getting the blood down her throat."

They responded to my words, moving into the positions, keeping Harmony's body firmly pressed against the floor.

Perhaps that had been the trigger, but all of a sudden, her body began to twitch uncontrollably, her limbs desperate to escape our hold.

And then, her eyes flicked open, and she went berserk.

As she moved her head around crazily, I noticed the elongations of her teeth, the slow red that seemed to be taking over her bright blue irises.

Our grip down became harder as Farren grabbed the side of Harmony's head, then picking up the cup of blood and bringing it to Harmony's eagerly awaiting lips. She gulped it down ravenously, a single drip trailing down the edge of her mouth and onto her neck, following down as far as her collarbone.

The moment that the cup was emptied she threw it away and rested her head against the ground, causing an arch in her back.

Then, she sat up and blinked, as if she were trying to remember what happened, perhaps even who we were. The feral look on her face disappeared and was replaced by one of confusion, fear. Then, her eyes widened as her hands found her neck, and as she pulled away, two red spots appeared on her palm, imprints from the injury on her neck.

"Please don't tell me this means what I think it means," She whispered hoarsely.

"Well, you just inhaled an entire cups worth of blood without a second thought, so I'm assuming yes, it's true. You made the shift safely." I exhaled in relief. "It's done, you're a vampire."

I could barely even register it, the whole thing had happened so quickly.

Harmony began to shake, "Do I- Do I look any different?"

Vance placed a hand on the side of her face, trying to calm her. "A little paler, and you're eyes, the rim of your iris is red. Other than the obvious fangs and the pinpricks in your neck, no. You're still the same Harmony James."

Her fingers found her mouth, fiddling around as she felt the long fangs that now protruded from her gums. Most likely, they were incredibly sore and she was simply trying to find the source of the pain. Harmony tried to stay up,

"So what, and I banished from the pack? Removed from my position?" She asked, "There has to be some sort of consequence for this."

Xander was quick to respond, "Absolutely not. The only thing that changes is your diet. Small things in your day to day life but nothing like that. The moon goddess made you the Beta female, regardless of you eventually becoming a vampire. We trust in that decision, and even if I didn't, you still would be unmoving."

She started to chew on her lip, it only just hitting me now how pale her skin was, "Well if that's the case, we can't waste any more time." She said firmly, grasping onto Vance's arm for support. "Where do we go from here?"

Out of nowhere, Farren passed Harmony another cup full of blood, which she eagerly took. Sipping on it gently.

"From here? Madame Beaudeline." I stated, "I managed to kill Master Skotus, who is currently lying dead in a bush. I would say that the control that she has over the organisation, while still is a lot, is significantly less. Without the other two alive, the injection has less to bind the person to, therefore, more loopholes and open opportunities."

"What would you say, infiltrate the base or wait for them to attack us here?" Myra asked, "There are about a million ways that we could go about this."

"It's about asserting dominance and asserting control. We can issue out spies to watch and alert us when they are making a move, then, from there, lead out an army and an attack of our own. With the forces of other packs, we should have no trouble in walking away successful," Alexander said finally. "It's a game of timing, but I'm confident."

I raised my eyebrow, "So what, this is an immediate thing? This is happening?"

Alexander's eyes darkened, "Oh, it's happening all right."
