《(girlxgirl) Not All Roses in Roselake》Chapter 2: What's in Two Weeks?

This bitch just haddddd to park over the line! She just hadddddd to park in my spot. "Look please just anywhere else. I'll take anywhere else." She was still complaining to this poor man with a clip board. I don't want to park next to what is that a Toyota?" "It's a Corolla thanks for asking. And look I don't want to park next to what is that an asshole?" "If you had just watch where you were going?" "If you just hadn't parked over the line!"
"Look I'm not the guy who deals with this kind of stuff ok? I'm just the sound manger. I'm just trying to head over to the read throughs right now. I'm already a little late." I quickly glanced at my cracked phone. It was 4:06. Oh no! All this damn arguing made me late. All because of this stupid girl! This Roselake girl looked at her super nice watch and her eyes widened.
"Where's the read through at?" "Follow me." We were speed walking. And social class aside we were all in the same situation experiencing the same fear. We walked into this long white room and thankfully people were still getting seated. But there were sooooo many people. How is the cast this big? Wow. It was a bunch of double desks put together to make a circle. The desks were of course white too. With little waters and signs too.
And of course Me and Miss Roselake's desks were right next to each other how wonderful! "Alyssa Barron" it said in bold black writing. It looked gorgeous. This bitch took her seat so diva like. She opened up the chair, properly sat down and then crossed her legs. Whereas I, Alyssa Barron, flopped down into the seat. She just gave me a dirty look. She really did not like me. I looked at her sign. "Amber Roselake" God. That sounds. That sounds so rich what the? Why?
The same old guy in all black from yesterday began talking. And two people began to pass out the scripts. "Holy shit." That's one huge script. It was this fat thing that weight hundred pounds. And as we went through it, Amber kept eying me down and I soon realized I had lines on almost every page. Wow. This is going to be impossible. But I need this. I want this so badly. I have to make this work. Even if it means putting up with this Amber bitch and killing my brain with lines.
Looking around I noticed people we getting called to go into a private room. I noticed Zach Riley as he came out of the room and sat down next to me. Oh wow. I guess they put us in casting order. It was him. Me. And then Amber. Damn. He gave me a polite smile and then I was called into this back room. I had to sign a contract basically stating I'd do the job and not spoil the movie or anything. I think that's what it said there were so many pages. Either way I signed it without hesitation. I also filled out a bunch papers putting in all my credit card information address. Just a lot of boring stuff. Then I came back into the desk.
I also noticed this girl who took a seat next to Amber. Her name was Elizabeth Sophr. She had orange hair and had these crazy bright green eyes. I don't know how to describe her she was just almost glowing. And considering she was seated next to Amber she had a pretty big role in this film too. She was beautiful too. All these people were. I couldn't kinda see why they selected us though. Zach had very darker features and I had light brown ones, Amber had blonde ones, and Elizabeth had organs ones. We all looked distinctly different from one another. The older man then opened up and the strict and soon enough we actually began the read through.

The title itself was a play on words I soon learned. Miles was for Violet literally by fate. They were meant to be together. I also soon learned that Miss Amber Roselake over here was Tracey. She was Tracey! I had about a hundred scenes with Tracey! Ones where we have to hold and like each other my God! I don't know if I'm that good of an actress!
Basically the story was that Fate is a real person. That's who this Elizabeth Sophr girl was playing. Her name is Erica G. Fate and she basically runs around getting people to be where they are supposed be and who they are supposed to be with. She comes to Los Angeles where Miles and Tracey are. Miles and Tracey are dating and they are in a serious relationship. They live together, love each other, yatta yatta yatta. Miles and Tracey they are very together people. They dress nicely, they have the right shoes, the right apartment, the right cars. I could see how Zach and Amber played these people well.
Tracey is a pre-law student and has an internship at a law firm. And Miles is a biology major with an internship at a hospital. And this Erica G. Fate comes in and gets him fired so then he can go and get another internship where Violet aka me works which is at this treatment center where patients with neurological issues are treated. Miles thinks this is the worst thing that happens to him when really it is the best because it he gets be with the love of his life: me! Tracey and his relationship begin to fall apart and Violet and Miles are still dealing with stuff that happened in the past. And Violet is also dealing with some legal issues. She needed to help a doctor get some drugs for a certain patient. But the government wouldn't give them the money for the drugs legally so they had to get them illegally. She gets caught and since she isn't a citizen is forced to leave.
Erica gets Tracey and Violet to meet by assigning Tracey to Violet's immigration case. And the two absolutely hate each other at the beginning but soon become friends. Violet doesn't want to tell Miles that they know each other because Violet is too ashamed and wants to look like she has her life together in front of Miles whom she hasn't seen since high school. Miles has no idea she is dealing with immigration issues. He begins to really love her again. Miles and Violet end up together as Fate had in mind for them. But Violet loses the case and is going to be forced to leave the country. But Miles proposes, still unaware about Violet's problems, which thankfully means she can stay in the country. The movie closes with Erica G. Fate winking at the camera thus knowing that this was her plan all along.
I know it's so cheesy but, it's a blockbuster film can you believe it? And people like cheesy romance movies. It explains why this one has so much funding going into it. The old guy gave us schedules that told us that filming will start next week and that we need to have at least a good deal of our lines down. Also that we will need to get fitted for our customs tomorrow. And that I were to get my trailer soon! I was excited! I was looking more at the schedule. Most of the scenes were filmed later in the day. It was perfect. I could drive from school to here. I'd have to get Nico or Gunnar to go during one of their lunch breaks to get Robbie from school but other than that it was perfect. This little handy schedule also stated that everyone's first paycheck would be coming in two weeks. I was so excited.

I was back the next day to get fitted for costumes, I also made sure to not hit Amber's Mercedes this time. And she was also in his parking spot entirely. Thankfully. I already noticed more items were shipped on set. They were really getting ready for this movie. Gosh it was nerve racking. I walked in kind of confused on where to go. Some woman led me into another room where there was just a sea of clothes.
She started to say I need this outfit for this scene and that outfit for that scene. It was so much. Then I noticed a friendly face peering from one of the clothing racks. It was of course Amber eying me down. She was still pissed at me I swear like why? Some woman was following her around too.
I started to undress into what this woman wanted me to wear. It was basically pretty much what I already wore: beat up kicks, ripped jeans, messed up t-shirts. Except they were clearly trying to make me have more style and be more, "movie ready" by giving me some beanies, and cut out flannel shirts to wear. I looked pretty decent kinda cool actually. But Amber was across from me she had on this business shirt and a tight black skirt. I couldn't lie. She looked really good. Why couldn't I get something like that? And then I realized my character again. Violet wasn't like that. Right. She'd wear something like this. It made sense.
Elizabeth danced by. Wow. She was in this white flowy dress. She had such long legs. Wait since when do I care about other girls' legs? I mean she looked really pretty. Like really really pretty. I let out a sigh. Maybe it was a moan? Shoot. Did I find her a little attractive? Did I? Could I? Just never mind. I'm with Wes. I'm with Wes.
I should not be panicking about that right now either. I need to focus on when I'm going to get all this memorizing done. I finished about one sixth of it and we started filming too soon. I needed to make a plan so I could get it done. I was pretty worried about it but, so excited about this. I was living every actress's dream and more importantly my own: my brothers finally didn't have to work as much. I've always loved acting and now is my chance to really show that.
Afterward, I walked down through Paramount to some of the sets my brothers were building. They worked in these big industrialized warehouses months before filming started happening. And there were just tons of em. Some half way built. Some not really started at all. I had to walk through a couple to get to the one Nico and Gunnar were working on. But I ended taking a wrong turn at some point. It was my mental map taking me somewhere I used to go.
It was this old set Nico and Gunnar had built maybe two years or three years ago. It was of a fake town or well a street of a fake town. It had tall buildings that looked like they were from the 1950s. It was pretty cool. They had windows and doors but they all lead to nowhere. The road itself was supposed to look like cobble stone and the street lamps were all old timey. There was even a little alley way that led to a wall. I forgot what movie this set was used for but it was where I used to visit Nico and Gunnar. It was always relaxing to me. This set. Or just the memory of when I used to visit Nico and Gunnar in this place. It was back when Mom and Dad were still around. I still couldn't believe it was here. They must be beginning to tear it down soon. Right?
Anyways, I wandered around a little more and then found Nico and Gunnar. "Hey Nico, Gunnar!" I could see Gunnar up hammering away on some plywood. He stopped. Nico and a bunch of guys were working on some balance beams. "Wanna go for a break?" We went down the street to some park and sat on the grass out there. It was nice being able to do this now. I liked being able to spend more time with them.
"How's the set coming?" "Really good. We just started a couple days ago so it's coming along quite nicely." Nico pulled apart his sandwich as we watched the glimmering water and the ducks waddle by. "How's the movie! How's working with Zach Riley! How's the food on set? Have you had food yet?" Nico was filled with joy asking. "Oh my gosh, it's good! Zach is really nice and polite, and we haven't gotten food yet. We're just getting our costumes fitted right now but, yeah, it's going." "Just getting out costumes fitted? Are you kidding my goodness. Alyssa, way to down play it."
"Would you rather me be like oh yes I'm gonna be a star!" "Yes! Because then we get to say we are related to one." I could see Gunnar smiling over on the side of Nico. He was always very controlled with his emotions whereas Nico, Nico was dancing around yelling the words: star and Alyssa. I was laughing though. They always made me laugh.
"Literally everything is pretty damn good except for this woman's car I hit yesterday." "Hit? You make it sound like you wacked her car. And there was no damaged done. You tapped it. And the way you described it, it sounded like it was partially her fault too." Nico stretched out his arms. "That's because it was her fault too. It's just she's been such an asshole about the whole thing though." "Why?" "Because she drives a Mercedes and she has the right hair, the right jacket, the right ughhh! I can't stand her! She's such a diva! She's so stuck up! And acts like I should take orders from her or something. Or like I should know who she is. Gosh it's not she's as big as Zach Riley!" "What's her name?" Gunnar asked taking a bite of the sandwich he had brought from home. "Amber Roselake."
Nico just about fell to the floor. The sandwich just about fell out of Gunnar's mouth. "Amber Roselake!" They both just said at the exact same time. "Yeah why? Oh don't act like you know who this bitch is." "You're working with Amber Roselake?" Gunnar was in shock. "Wait. You hit Amber Roselake's car?" "You said I tapped it Nico! Yes ok! Her!" "Alyssa. You remember that sitcom we all used to watch with mom and dad on Tuesday nights called Jessica and Carlos." Gunnar asked calmly. "Yeah why." "Amber is Jessica! You hit freaking Jessica from Jessica and Carlos' car. You!" Nico was practically throwing himself. Oh my gosh. I do recognize her. No wonder why she looked familiar. Oh man!
"Alyssa she is really famous." "Oh God. I hit Jessica from Jessica and Carlos's car! Oh my gosh! A fucking celebrity hates me! Jessica hates me!" I was freaking out. It started to scare away all the ducks! "I just saw her on some magazine! Like she is up there for an eighteen year old." Nico was just as scared as I was. "Wait a second she's only eighteen? She looks twenty one or twenty two!" "That's what all that wealth does to you. And think about it when we were watching Jessica and Carlos she was a little kid too." "So she's in high school like my year." "Yeah I bet."
"Wow." I was shook. Gunnar then reached into his pocket for a cigarette. He was nervous. He began to lite it. "Alyssa don't piss that girl off anymore." "It wasn't my fault." "I know it wasn't but she could create a PR nightmare waiting at our doorstep. Just stay out her hair and get the film done. Keep it professional." I knew Gunnar was right but I don't like taking orders from anyone. I'm gonna deal with her the way I want.
I walked Robbie to school that Friday kind of excited for the football game that night. I waved to Gunnar at the computer where he was "looking for the perfect red" and his hands wanting a cigarette, and then to Eugene and Franklin still working vigorously on their yard. Vince came in with his football jersey and so did Dimitri into English class. They had so much energy the entire class and were passing notes back in forth. They were hyped. I walked Robbie home from school and then did what I always did: visit Weston.
I went to the nearby convenience store his dad owned that Wes worked at. It was still in the same little poor side in Boyle Heights we lived in. But Wes was always smiling and honestly couldn't be happier to be there. "Hey cutie? Whatcha need?" He joked as if he didn't already know what I came here to buy. "I don't know maybe some adult diapers for my boyfriend." "Oh come on I'm not that much older than you. Only three months. He kissed me on the forehead. I laughed. "So the cigarettes for Gunnar?" "You know it." He grabbed then from behind him and rung them up. I always bought a pack for him. It was just how it was.
"Are you going to the game tonight?" I asked as I took a seat next him behind the counter. "Uhh duh. Fricking Vince won't shut up about it. Same thing with Dimitri. I already took off work. Wanna come with?" "I would but." I pulled out the fat script from my backpack. "You carried that all around today during school?" "Yes, and I read it during breaks and during physics. I have to memorize this whole thing by Monday." "How far have you gotten." "You see this first word here." "Miles?" "Yes. That's as far as I've gotten." "Oh c'mon you've gotten farther than that!"
"Alright I've memorized all the lines for the next two weeks but, I'm worried." "Why?" "Because would if I'm not good enough or something or they think someone else is better! I just don't want to get fired." "You won't. You said you signed that contract thingy so I'm sure you're good. And they loved you. Just give them that performance again." "Thanks Wes." "Does that mean you'll come to the game tonight?" "Fineeeeeee." He kissed me and we kept kissing and immediately I felt just awkward and uncomfortable. He's a good looking guy light brown silky hair, a lot of muscles and a good face. But like I said I wasn't crazy about him. I like him though you know. I'm just not crazy about him.
I was so thankful when some came into the store and that forced us to stop. They shuffled around and then I noticed it was a couple guys from school. They weren't exactly the nicest too because they had a little bit more than us. Them coming in here wasn't already a good sign. I quickly put the script back into my bag along with the cigarettes and sat down. They had grabbed some chips, a magazine and some sodas.
There were three of them and to my surprise they all went up to pay. "How are you? Wes?" "Good you?" "Yeah. Yeah." They had to pay $10.13. The guy handed Wes a twenty. Wes went to go and get him change. "Nah, nah man. Keep it." "You sure?" "Yeah, I don't need it. But I know you do." They all left with their junk piece of crap food and I could see Wes just standing there tense. "I fucking hate them." I said for him. "It's not like I need the money. It's not like we need the money. It's not freaking like that." Wes slammed into his seat. I felt bad. Those guys just came in here to mess with him. And it's not like they're Amber Roselake rich. They're just a little richer than us. That's it. I hate people. But I knew Wes hated them more. I stuck out my hand to him and he, fighting his anger, held it.
We didn't talk in the drive there but once all the yelling and the cheering of the football started I saw him lighten up. We got some good seats and I could see Vince and Dimitri running around catching balls. The cheerleaders and the marching band were going it was great. I was glad I got to go to school and see all this shit. I mean I would never play an instrument or catch some girl from falling but hey it was certainly cool to watch. It wasn't that exciting of game because we crushed the other school but, the team was stoaked. At the end of the game, they were all just huddling and chanting. I watched as Vince and Dimitri hugged each other for a long time actually. It was kinda cute.
I got home late and not to my surprise Gunnar was at the computer surrounded by papers. It made me remember something. Something really important. I don't know how I forgot to tell him. I fumbled around in my backpack until I found my schedule. Gunnar was just about to get up to go outside to smoke. "Hey um. Can we get through the next two weeks?" I asked. He was confused. "Why? What's in two weeks?" I started to chuckle in happiness. "I get paid." Gunnar, instead of going outside, went over to me. He gave me such a massive hug. I could tell he was relieved. I showed him the schedule and the numbers and the copy of the contract. Gosh he couldn't let go of it. He was smiling so much. I guess it was just proof that this was actually happening.
